Bob Costas on how he prepares for broadcasts

Ойын-сауық

Bob Costas - whose illustrious, 40+ year career as a leading sports broadcaster marches on - lets us in on his professionalism and personal processes. Costas illustrates his perfectionism by sharing a specific call as the Atlanta Braves won the 1995 World Series, and clarifies his “diminishing” memory by listing every U.S. President in chronological order. Plus, long-time producer Bruce Cornblatt, filmmaker Ken Burns, NBC analyst Mary Carillo and former HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg join the conversation to offer high praise for Costas’ talents.

Marvin Barnes was absolutely hilarious. Costas also tells the story of the time the Spirits were making a short flight but crossing a time zone. They handed out an itinerary and the flight’s arrival time was earlier than the departure time. Barnes saw that and said something like “I ain’t getting in no time machine.”

Marvin Barns... LOL It's ironic it was about being late, because Bob Costas told a story years ago about Marvin Barns being late to a game and upon his arrival he said "Game time is on time." :-) 2/25/22, 5:40 p.m.

Procrastination, works better under pressure, time blindness (always being late)…. Bob has undiagnosed ADHD. All of those traits are indicators and describe me perfectly.

I have those traits as well. However, I take pride in being on time for things. That developed because of work and doctor appointments for my parents which I transported them, then because of my very own doctor visits and projects at work. In classes like history (various kinds), literature, art, trivia and with music (playing and listening) the data just seems to stick. Also I seem to remember things I write down or see very well. However scientific specifics and I guess highly technical things is what I have to work at most.

Even though Bob Costas is as liberal as they come, he did go on the record stating that he believes Curt Schilling should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame. I will always give him kudos for being able to separate a man that thinks differently than he does, from that same man playing the sport superbly. ⚾

I think Costas is as reasonable, thoughtful and common-sense as you get. Depending on the subject, facts, and your own worldview, he may in the moment appear liberal or conservative. But most people are a combination of views, and I think Costas is one of those guys. And agree that Schilling needs to get in.

Because that is how people frame the criticism, conveniently allowing them to outright reject any and all criticism. Right or Left - that’s wrong, intellectually dishonest at best, and stupid.
