    Sure. But hey, Rogan is doing a helluva job at picking up the slack on that. Right? And you aren't limited to 22 minutes and 8 minutes of commercials. The full on deep three hour interview with someone who has enough of value to fill the whole three hours, is two steps above the short outings that the old Later show represented.

    As a 25 year old I have been watching Bill for years. I am one of the few "young people" he mentions that think like him. I wish I could talk to him in person. He is so engaging and his centrist, common sense is music to my ears. I enjoy that he can talk to both sides of the spectrum and call out the bs they say while also finding things in common with them.

    I met Bob Costas sometime in the early 90's while a newspaper intern and he was in town for a speaking gig. He had some down time so we spent time chatting. I'm not a sports fan but watched his old show "Later with Bob Costas" and he made a few appearance on Letterman back the in the day. This line is a classic: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gZ-rlMWiiaicn8Y.html -- I complimented him on his breadth of knowledge. You could tell he was well versed on a wide range of topics in his interviews. He deflected to say he had great producers. He was really cool and kind to young, green kid. Class act.

The Cards were up 3 games to 1, & Bob Gibson beat Denny McLain, a pitcher who won 31 f@¢king games that year, & yet the Cardinals can't seal the deal in the Series?! My two favorite memories of Later with Bob Costas: The week he spent with Mel Brooks, and the time Bill Murray came on and basically spent half the show talking about the then-new album Van Morrison made with the Chietains--Irish Heartbeat--and playing excerpts of it from his boombox.

    I love that Bill talked about Belzer being known for detective Munch more than his stand up. I grew up watching his stand up on HBO so when he got the part on law & order I found it strange why he would take on a serious role cuz I was used to seeing him do comedy.

  • @manofiske3318

    @manofiske3318

    He would have to have been insane not to have 'taken on' this gift of an easy, lucrative, gig handed him by Barry Levinson. It wasn't just another lame ''sitcom'' rather the 'serious role' offered the opportunity to be associated or attached to a relatively sophisticated , somewhat prestige status project without having to do much. Furthermore, the creators/producers were inclined, to a significant degree, to cater to his eccentricities and whims. All this and his credibility and/or standing in the world of comedy was less likely to be undermined or threatened had the endeavor not met with success.

    What a great interview. The fact that at 71 Bob can pull so much data out of his brain that he's experienced/seen and then use in conversation is amazing. I say that as someone in their late 50's. Aside from some movie quotes, there is no way in hell I could do what he does in that manner. I have a pretty good memory, but man.. Side note and sort of related - when they were talking about people who seemingly are uninterested - if not outright hostile - about hearing something they don't know about rather than being INTERESTED in learning something new.. That is a thing, but not something new, necessarily. That's in a sense like music hipsters who can't bear the thought of someone knowing/liking what they like and flat out refusing to even entertain the idea of listening to something brought to their attention because they didn't hear it first.
