the tough spot or tight spot was because the rubber hub wasn't seated when you first started putting the 4 blade on.

Awesome video !!! Exactly what I needed to see .. I just bought a 18 ft baja islander with a 5 ltr carburetor .. it came with two props that are both 22 pitch .. a 3 blade and 4 blade .. now I’m concerned it’s a little high .. it does have bottom paint that’s not real slippery and I’m only hitting around 50 mph full throttle .. thanks for the great video

You said your boat felt lighter with the 4 blade! That's because your having less friction with the boat touching the water that prop lifts the rear of the boat out of the water more than the other, it's more efficient in so many ways but it's what ever you like.

3-Blade Propellers Higher top speed: 3-blade propellers generally have a higher top speed than 4-blade propellers. Better acceleration: 3-blade propellers also have better acceleration than 4-blade propellers. Less drag: 3-blade propellers have less drag than 4-blade propellers, which can lead to improved fuel efficiency. More efficient at higher speeds: 3-blade propellers are more efficient at higher speeds than 4-blade propellers. 4-Blade Propellers Better handling: 4-blade propellers provide better handling and stability, especially at low speeds. More grip in the water: 4-blade propellers have more grip in the water than 3-blade propellers, which can be beneficial for boats that are used for towing or carrying heavy loads. More efficient at lower speeds: 4-blade propellers are more efficient at lower speeds than 3-blade propellers.

Thanks for the info that could be true if I hade a stainless 4 blade to test but I wanted to do the test with cheaper four blade for people looking to up grade from a 3 to four blade maybe they only have the money for a aluminum and have a stainless 3 blade . As you seen my boat did way better with the 3 blade could vary a little from boat to boat my guess is the flex difference from aluminum to the stainless. Thanks again for the view the info for the people out looking to spend there money 💴

You may want to repeat this test but use GPS to track your speed next time. Your Speedo seems to be off because the math doesn’t come out right. For you speed vs rpm vs gear ratio with a 21p prop. (Using a 1.61:1 ratio with a 305 merc) The only way a 21p prop could go 62 mph at that ratio and rpm is with 0% slip…which isn’t likely you’ll ever see. Marine 10-15% at best. Not criticizing, just trying to help you figure out what’s working better for your boat. I’d try a 19p mirage plus/Thunderbolt if it’ll fit an Alpha.

Well it goes 62 with the 21 pitch will go faster with a 23 pitch that’s what it came with but the boat gets scary at that speed . And I thought about try a 19 pitch anyway thanks for your input

Just watched my video when I was doing 62mph I was was at 5200 rpm check you math not not trying to be rude just asking you seem to have it down pat 👍 would also like to know for my self not that I need to go that fast anyway lol most of the time we are going 20mph at 2800 rpm with a boat load .

@@dsprojects8580 I’m assuming your ratio is a 1.61:1 with a 5.0 merc. If I’m wrong then we’d need to know what ratio you have. At 5200 rpm and 62 mph with a 21p prop and a 1.61 gear case that comes out to 3% slip. Some of the best props will slip at least 10% or more. A lot of cases up to 20% on the bad side. If the boat is getting scary to handle tho you speed is most likely hitting around 60. I only mentioned this stuff to you for more accurate data to go from so you know what is working best. Baja has a good hull design and can most likely achieve those speeds. Just not that common to see a 5.0 merc do that in most other hull designs.

Under 90alloyover stainless less flex 4blade holeshot and lose 2to four mph top end with 4blad now you need to start at what is recommended for your setup then you can experiment with diameter and pitch generally 2degrees either way a smaller prop willspin up faster a larger prop will take longer but hold better say 4blade stainless try a vented prop too with your setup it should work e.g hosepower o.e m props do work better mercury make some really good stuff ive compred oem and generic brands and mercury for mercury motors do have the edge regards from australia 😊😊😊

After watching some videos of Baja outlaw 20’s the prop was most likely a laser 2 or mirage 23 pitch 3 blade. I put a 21 nemesis on my boat and the rpm went to high, waiting on a 23 pitch nemesis.
