Owner of this particular Z3M Coupé, thanks Mark and Jack for doing the excellent video! As much as I enjoy this car I just don’t fit in it well, so watch for this car on Bring A Trailer in the next few weeks, just waiting for them to finish the listing.

@Collidiscope I'm 6' 2" and I definitely don't fit in the Z3M. I can "drive" it but I definitely don't fit comfortably. I would get a Z4M. I had one of those for a year and a half and it fit me really well.

@Collidiscope i own the z4m that they reviewed Earlier this year. I'm 6,2, 325lbs . I'm a big boy... and I fit length wise barely in the z4m, my knees just barely miss the dash , but I have a great amount of head room. its hard getting in and out, but again I'm 325lbs. it was shocking going from any car to the size of Z4m . but if you have driven other small cars , the z4 will feel normal. smaller than toyota 86, almost identical in size as the C7 Corvette, bigger than new supra.

The S52 is a wonderful engine and with the Dinan bits even better. I've got one, so I "know." :). It gives up little to the S54 at relatively sane driving speeds on public roads. On a more positive note, Jack adds a lot to the act, and Mark's camera work is exemplary as always.

I love my 2000 M Coupe! For me, it's the handling that's the star of the Clownshoe. Having driven an E46 M3 and supercharged E36 M3 (more powerful BMWs of the same vintage) along with 911s (993C2S and 996TT) and having also previously owned a 987 Cayman S (the latter having IMHO perfect handling characteristics), all I can say is that while the Coupe might not be as fast, and comparably has objective weaknesses in the handling department, it's precisely these qualities that make it interesting and fun to drive. It just doesn't feel like anything else. Stiffness isn't everything! And if you throw in coilovers and other suspension mods, the Coupe is basically as planted as the Cayman while retaining this weird "whip" handling quality that's hard to describe. Maybe it's body roll, maybe it's me about to be launched off the road, but it's intoxicating. I'm also 6'1" and have no real issues in the cabin - it can be a bit tight, but I like that feeling. I've driven it cross-country multiple times, it is a joy to spend time in. The Coupe is, undoubtedly, my forever car.

I usually don’t like BMWs but I’ll be honest, this is one of the few BMW cars I’d buy. Z3M Hatch. E39 M5 E39 M5 is a sleeper if you don’t know anything about cars and the Z3M is so different you wouldn’t know what it is and when you did find out, you’d call it ugly. It’s quirky and ugly but cool at the same time due to the rarity of it.

Have a Z4MC now, and previously an E39 M5. That M5 is an astonishing car. Arguably the best sedan ever made. The Z4MC is totally different. Raw, unrefined in comparison, and far better connected. Totally different goals superbly met by both. Wish I still had the M5, but it was looking like an engine rebuild within the next couple of years. Replaced with a 911 996 Carrera 2 manual, which shares space with the Z4. Almost identical performance, totally different cars. My channel has videos of both.

Glad they discuss the huge issue on these, which is the rear subframe failure. There's kits out there to fix it, but even the torque of the S52 was to much for the welds in the back of the car. BMW cut corners on reinforcement for the M models. People should look for this when shopping these.

After watching them, I am thinking that it would be quite informative to see your review of a first and/or second-generation Cayman S and how it compares to the Z3/4M. Please, find one or both to review...you mention the Z4M basically being the best driver's car you can get for the price (when referring the $37k used tag), but I think the Cayman is possibly even better!

I personally have always liked how the Z3M coupe looked, especially the later S54-powered version. It's one of the purest forms a "driver's car" can take. - It's only as big as it needs to be - It's not terribly heavy - it's RWD manual with an NA straight-6 - It's on a chassis lauded for its handling characteristics and personality - It's just the right combination of analog and digital, trending toward analog - It has a bit of cargo space if one absolutely MUST have that - It's all-weather capable without having to be concerned with a fabric top or a mechanism that will leak - It (probably) has better aero than the convertible version and is more rigid - It's not crazy expensive to operate (relatively speaking) It's looks are perhaps its weakest trait, but as looks go, it's hardly terrible IMO.
