Great review as always, thanks Thomas! I would definitely go with the 7 seater version for the sake of the legroom.

This is an excellent analysis of the 2nd row captains chairs vs the 7 seat bench. I think this will really help people who are going to order this and are confused about the pros and cons on this option.

Thomas and autgefühl covers the middle-seat options better than any other. (I havent even found it on BMW site) How the 6 seat (captains chair) folds or dont is very important. For me, the 3 row seats are not important. Just look at the new X5 instead. That cargo space is way better, its square and made for loading stuff behind the benchseat. In this X7 = the cargo space is smaller and instead have nice interior, like armwrest and leather and I dont thinks its bigger at all than X5.

At 2:21 - good German lesson, many thanks Thomas! Excellent Review. Loved the driving part, and commentary. The bright interior looked really nice. Agree, approve of the softer air suspension - kudos there to BMW. Too big and not my type of car, but a great choice for a Texas road trip! Regards to Katharina.

The lower hatch of cargo compartment is great for families. We always scratch our rear bumper with stroller when putting it in or taking it out. This feature, when you can simply put it on top and slide it in, is great.

I just placed an order for 2020 BMW M50i with 7 seater setup. 6 seater setup is very nice but BMW made 3 critical design flaws for that setup. First, just like you pointed out in the video, 2nd row captain’s chairs do not fold down flat for maximum cargo space like they do on 2020 Mercedes GLS. Second, one of the key advantages of having 2+2+2 setup other than more comfortable 2nd row seating is easier access to the third row. With only 3 inches gap between the 2 arm rests on the second row, accessibility to third row between two captain’s chairs are impossible on the X7. Once again, on 2020 Mercedes GLS, people can go in and out to the third row from the second row through the gap between 2 captain’s chairs setup. Third, I have no idea why BMW decided to put the cup holders on the floor of the 2nd row in between the two captain’s chairs. Yes, having a functional cup holders in the second row with captain’s chairs is a must but why couldn’t they find more clever solution by having pop up cup holders below the arm rests or something? Yes, access to the the third row seating is almost impossible with 3 inches gap between the captain’s chairs on the second row but by having the cup holders on the floor between the two captain’s chairs, going across from one seat to the other seat on the second row is very cumbersome. BMW must fix these failures for the next generation X7. These design flaws are the main reasons why I decided to go with a 7 seater setup for my X7. Ability to seat one more person in a car is always very attractive for a big SUVs but I would have ordered the X7 in 6 seater setup if it didn’t have those problems I already mentioned. If I were ordering the new 2020 Mercedes GLS, I would definitely go for the 6 seater setup. In the end X7 is a better choice for me because I tend to prefer the more sporty feel of BMWs over Mercedes in general. Also, I like the overall exterior and interior designs of X7 better. That dark blue with white interior combo is so amazing! The quality of finish and separate sun roof along with climate control for third row made me decide on the X7 instead of the GLS. I think a lot of people will be interested in your comparison video between 2020 BMW X7 M50i vs 2020 BMW GLS 580. I know I would love to watch your take on those two vehicles. Once again, thanks so much for really comprehensive and unbiased review videos. Keep up the good work!

Both seating arrangements are imperfect. The captain chairs don't fold flat (like the GLS), and the bench doesn't allow pass-thru in the middle.

I would choose the 7 seat configuration with the standard or pure excellence package

If they made the headlamps a bit thicker and larger it would fit with the big grille better in my opinion. Great review as always!

I find it interesting what car makers give you but also, what they don’t give you and try to get you to pay extra for at any pricing point. I for one, do not want the standard panoramic roof as I’ve had too many leaky sunroofs to be convinced of a panoramic roof’s reliability. But to then try to get me to pay extra for comfort dampers! You can keep your panoramic roof and give me the comfort suspension!

nice review, However when you're trying to put together your own model it would be helpful to know which packages and add-ons contain which features you demonstrate. many reviewer's show everything as if it's all standard but it's not it's all about adding on.

Would you go for x7 or gls ? X7 looks more modern to me but i mean you drove both and both 6 cylinders. Which one do you like more to drive?

Do we have to pay extra for wifi? Can we use to watch stuff on the rear entertainment?

Great Review.... In depth with Pros and Cons and all the Features. Good Car (SUV/SAV), a lot of money. Why there's no Android Auto? Can they update this via on the air (OTA). It's a shame they didn't put Android Auto.

Great review Thomas, thanks! Very informative, exhaustive and covers most of the car technology quite well. Thomas and BMW go quite well together :-) I have 2 questions please - 1. Did BMW engineers reveal to you if a plug in hybrid like 745e is on its way for the X7? 2. I always see the Sony white action cam in your reviews and it looks like a 4K camera. So my request to you, can you please shoot your videos in 4K? Nothing can be better than you doing car reviews in 'ultra HD, full screen and full length'. Awaiting for your next reviews in Ultra HD 4K. Many thanks!

Thanks! PHEV only for the X5. Yeah it can do 4K but not 4K 60p. We want HD 60p. Among our main big cameras, 1/2 of those can do 4K 60p, not all of them. So we would need to invest further in camera technology. But basically, we can film 4K since around 6 years. The major problem is the bandwidth. A normal review would be around 50 GB to upload. And we just sometimes have great upload bandwidth somewhere, more often the bandwidth is very limited (especially in Germany which is a developing country as for web broadband). So bandwidth it is...

@@autogefuehl thank you for the detailed reply, I was suspecting there must be a real reason why you have always had the 4k camera but the videos were always in 1080p - probably due to rendering times. By the way the 2019 Gigabyte Aero 15 is great for that! I wish upload speeds will increase and we can get 4K 60p videos from you ☺ maybe 5G networks will help.

@@autogefuehl About the PHEV, I think BMW is probably playing a wait and watch game for the response to the X7. We might get a hybrid version in a couple of years time. PHEV version for SUVs is becoming a good compromise for customers who want a big spacious powerful SUV without the guilty conscience of doing massive damage to the planet. And as you said in the 7 series review, it does make practical sense for commutes of 15-20 miles to have an all electrical motor for morning rush hour. I would vote for it. Let's see what BMW does.

Great review as always Thomas. I’m not a fan of the huge double kidney. BMW not heard of 'less is more'? I loved Thomas recreating Laurel and Hardy ( Dick und Doof in Germany. In one side out the other only thing missing was a piano 😂.

Guys, I need help I saw on another reviewer saying that people who sit in the 2nd row won't be sitting comfortably when the car turning right or left as they will be moving? Is it true? 2) I am planning to buy X7 V8, I am between 2019 X750i (off road) VS 2020 X7M50i. Forget the different of the engine power what else I will be missed if I go with the 2019???

I don't like the front , the grill is just too big, but great interior , super quality and features. The rear looks cool too .But I think it's just too damn big for Europe , no need for such a large car here. maybe in the US . What is the base price for this car in Germany Thomas, do you know? 85.000 EUR. Base price. Interestingly enough, they claim a B to C rating of co2 exhaust at 198g co2 per km for the benzine version. When I read the small lettering on the website, those numbers are based on the NEDC test. The WLTP test will obliverate those results, especially with 22inch wheels. But then again, people who can afford this car, can afford its high registration cost too.

Sensational review Thomas!! As the BMW X5 is listed as the number 1 most unreliable vehicle during the past 10 years i really query if the new ZF 8 speed automatic gearbox is reliable? In Ireland BMW are battling a serious law suit due to not abiding to its warranty guarantee. Is the new Toyota highlander 2020 a better buy?

Engineers told me the seats are 1to1 to the X5 Subjectively I felt a little higher, but obviously that just makes the feeling

Danke! Konnte beide schon ausführlich testen und sind beide gut, derzeit die besten Lösungen auf dem Markt, weil die Spracherkennung am besten klappt. das MBUX versteht noch komplexere Dinge als das BMW OS, also derzeit noch etwas besser denke ich

Very informative review! But I wonder why you don’t mention the camera that reads the road surface and adjusts the suspension accordingly. This is part of the «Executive Drive Pro» option. Mercedes (GLE, S560.) Audi (A8) and even DS have made a big deal of this feature, but on the X7 nobody mentions it except one reviewer from India! How is it on speed bumps?

Great reviews.. unfortunately I can never finish their videos. This guy always puts me to sleep

Hated the new design. But as all say it grows on. It is a fact. In the M trim it looks angrier. Making me want it more. Hope it is worthy upgrade from a XC90.

Honestly, despite there's a bit less leg room for very tall people, I would go for the 6 places. Of course it depends on every one's habit !

About the car, it's a top segment luxury car, you get everything and more for a lot of money. I would buy one... If it weren't for the XC90 which prefers my taste and for my limited buget of course. I would never opt for 22inch tyres though, rolling noise and reduced comfort as well as increased roll resistance and co2 exhaust.

Really disappointed with the package of the car. Skoda superb has over 2m from trunk to front seats and is much shorter. I know in porsche panamera it is because of driving dynamics and they put the engine as far back as possible so they steal passenger room, is it here the same case?
