I love the sound of my M50i. I will be keeping mine

The M50 should be the real M engine; the M60's sound is a joke. I compared its sound side by side with my entry level 2022 40i, and I can't tell any difference. On the other hand, the M50 made the showroom floor tremble. An M badge on the engine cover and pointy mirror covers don't make it an M car. I think they made some shortcuts with this LCI. You note this from the moment you hold the flimsy and light new plastic key, unlike the old heavy metal-rimmed key and huge display key. The lack of buttons and the integration of all functions into the odd iPad-style screen are cost-cutting measures as well, and the ridiculous gear selector, ughh...

You see the sound actually come from different pipes etc. to help the turbos and engine work together and help with lag especially now with he added 48V hybrid batter added. such a smooth drive and insanely fast. but I get what you are saying, but times change and competition is strong and BMW make the cars so they can be on top of the competitors from what the consumers want. unfortunately we won't like everything, but I can assure you the time and effort and technology they put in for when you drive the car as BMW will always be a drivers car makes a massive difference these cars are getting quicker and smoother and more reliable at the end of the day. I do appreciate the comment hehe. I love hearing what people have to say it also helps when selling these cars and I can bet you plenty of other people say the same and I promise BMW always listens to make sure they're customers they have keep on buying.

Nice review. Thank you very much. I am exactly in the situation that we will replace a X5 M50i with a M60i. So the review was on the point for me! And we ordered it in Skyscraper Grey and the exact same wheels as the reviewed one. ❤

I 100% agree with that. I absolutely LOVE the M60i. it is just a proper machine and a soft drive with plenty of power the way an SUV should be in my eyes:-)

Great video - Would you say that the new m60 exhaust sounds much worst than the m50? I am about to buy a an m60 and am worried a little about the dumbed down exhaust. Do you have any thoughts?

I see my comments do not always save which is weird. Sooo if you are in SA there is not much you can do under motorplan, but trust me when driving the car it sounds amazing and also in todays age we are moving away from the sounds due to rules etc. You will not be disappointed in the M60i sound trust me. And the car gives you hella more to even forget about the sound lol my opinion

Cannot really fix unless you do a Cat delete or software update unless the car has motorplan and warranties then you will have to wait it out.

Great video... I have to say BMW completely ruined the engine sound/exhaust note. My M50i was just totaled in a crash so I ordered the M60i. Had it about a week now. I miss the M50i exhaust sound; I would've kept that vehicle a long time. The M60i sounds like a 4 cylinder now. Hold on to your M50i if you want that awesome beast exhaust sound. Maybe BMW can make a mod for it...

Aahh thanks a mil for the comment. Damn that sucks - I am just glad you are okay that counts for the most part. I totally agree the M50i with the old school sound really is fantastic. If you ever need any info on the vehicle remember to email me or keep in touch. I think after Motorplan you can definitely get the exhaust done to get the V8 roar back again.

Good comparison. I prefer the pre facelift car because of the lack of mild hybrid.

Thank you for your comment and Happy New Year. I have to agree - after driving the facelift - I could not care much about the exhaust noise anymore and still sounds great anyway though.

I will most definitely, maybe a good idea also just explaining the difference unless.... I can get my hands on one.

Just found out that only pre 2021 M vehicles can be flashed without unlocking the ECU, BMW will also send out automatic updates that will relock your ECU if you take them, and there for I will take the M50 over the 60 because I want more performance over more technology.

The "proper" M car owners will have a fit. To an untrained eye, it will be difficult to distinguish between an M car and a M sport package car, especially from the front

Inside it is also interesting, that the steering wheel is the one from the X5M with the gap between the lower spoke. You see it in the video that they are different. So again, like the M designation on the passenger side, more M then the pre-Lci.

Will sell maybe thousands of X5M60i to X5M COMPETITION so wise for their pockets at BMW They did delete X5M it is now extinct, goooone, this is why this has the M engine

Lci’s engine noise is poor, fewer buttons and consumes more fuel.

Might be a bit more on the fuel, but what a different car all and all - makes a massive difference in power delivery and so much smoother
