One of favorite parts about this channel is the fact that he turns detailing business models, ideas, situations, and scenarios into a life lesson. Like his making mistakes example towards the end. Came to this channel long ago for the immaculate detailing, and now I’m hooked on Sandro’s lessons on and off the paint. Cheers from US buddy, keep on rockin.

That last bit about undercharging and learning from your mistakes when going into business for yourself resonated with me. I started my detail business out of my own garage after years of working for a company that under appreciated and overworked me to the point I never saw my wife except for an hour or two then it was time to sleep. I’ve only been in business for 7 months, I find I have been struggling with estimates based on my skill level and customer’s expectations. But it has gotten better, and try to remember to learn from those mistakes as opposed to stressing over the mistake and regretting the decision to start this business. Thank you Sandro for your wealth of knowledge and being able to really explain the nuances of having your own detailing business. Cheers bud.

My Alpine white BMW is indeed, rock hard 🙂 As all hard paint easy to finish even with one step, but boy, even light swirls needs time to work on.

I think the best parts of your videos is the troubleshooting and immediate solutions on previous experiences. Also, your explanation on your thought process is key. Great video as always!

This episode almost had me convinced that I want my next car to be white…and my car is paid off with no new purchase in sight. That’s just how incredible you made that X5 look. As you know, I’ve got a tough SUV Project coming up, and this footage couldn’t be a better guide and motivator for me. The work you’re putting into these videos should be what any content creator references in terms of approach, quality and production style. I hope you are somehow able to enjoy these videos yourself. I encourage any viewer to challenge your friends to watch Sandro’s content. Share and spread the word. Edited to come back and add this: Your comments at the end about accountability are 100% spot-on. I’m not referring to detailing either. Half of my country’s problem involves individuals failing…to appreciate the freedom they have to not blame others for their circumstances. None of us are perfect, nor is the world but things could certainly be worse and I totally agree that a little more appreciation for our freedoms and a little more self reflection and responsibility is needed. The last two years have certainly opened my eyes to these things even wider!

BMW water based paint is so soft it scratches just looking at it. Amazing results on the X5.

I wish this had been out before correcting my X6M. At the end of the day I’m happy with my first polishing job but I wasn’t prepared for correcting such hard paint as I never really heard anyone talk about anything besides soft paint. I certainly wasn’t prepared for doing such a big vehicle. Excellent work and very informative.

You reckon that car was stuggle to reach the centre of the roof. You should have seen when I decided to polish my Holden Jackaroo while it was on jack stands about 10-12 inches higher than normal cause I had the gearbox out and was waiting for parts. I had to use an adjustable tressel to stand on, it was super easy to do the lower sections of the car though.

This dude reminds me of the gunman there are no better paint technicians than Australians

I good friend is in the paint business for the largest company. Advised me that robots are programmed to spray less product as the go down the side of the car. Saves the manufacturer millions in paint cost.

alberto is watching mister sandro to do something is always always better than do nothing in everything we do does t matter what it is you need a break to need to put your face in , outside in the fresh wind and sun so its good for few minutes to walk away and clear your mind mi opinion is time is most important i can pay you 4000 dollars if you do this in half hour and your rushing trough i can pay 500 dollars but i can 3 days you give your self, time to time to do it properly or correctly

Thanks, and I find CeriGlass is quite aggressive on glass, especially with the Rayon pads. If the glass is badly scratched up it can certainly be a good choice, but if it isn’t, it can leave fine scratches in the finish that are difficult to remove.

Great work Sandro. Learned a lot on this one. Wasn't sure if it was ok to polish that piano black trim. When I tried that previously I noticed some black staining on my pad, so I immediately stopped. Perhaps I was being too aggressive.

Thanks mate, and in some cases those trims can be single stage paint, so it’s normal in that instance to get black residue on your pad. The letter case would be that the clear has failed/worn so you are penetrating to the base coat which obviously isn’t great!

Nice one, Sandro! As part of a two stage paint correction can you use a primer polish such as Essence on a finishing (red) pad prior to applying NV Evo?

Thanks and yes, just allow Essence at least 4hrs to cure prior to coating.

Another great video Sandro. I want to get into paint correction and wondered if you need a whole different array of pads and polishes to work on all different paint types of if as a beginner, I can stick with a few pads and compounds/polishes?

Start with just a few pads and compounds that appeal to you, and when you’ve exhausted what you have in various combinations, you can then try something new to try and solve the issues you’re having with a particular paint. That’s the best way to grow into a larger arsenal, bit by bit.

You’ll be able to use many quality compounds and pads on many different paints and defects mixing up the combinations to address what’s needed. I personally use Lake County HDO pad range a lot and both Scholl Concepts and Nv compounds a lot, but I’ll always just start with the less aggressive combinations and work my way up as needed.

Was it just a visibility issue to use the bar on the 3" rotary as oppose to the 351-3/12 DA? - (need a hang gliding harness?) - as an aside how many batts did the X5 take?

A hang gliding harnesses would be nice 🙂 Apart from better visibility, the extension bar also helps provide some better clearance to avoid the body of the polisher making contact with the panels and in some areas longer extended bars where used to reach harder to access areas.

After seeing this paint close up my question is how was this BMW washing previously. I guess if money isn't an option then it doesn't really matter but for me it comes down to personal pride. I'm certainly not judging I've had to work hard for what I have and just like to look after it.

I think being that that paint is on the harder side and it’s only 18mths old, I say the previous owners didn’t employ safe car washing techniques unfortunately!

I do have one question though. How do you get the spots right under the side mirrors with the panel making it impossible to fit a machine polisher?

I think there was a couple shots in the video showing me using the rotary with a long extension bar and 1” pad to reach around the mirrors. But sometimes I’ll also use my Rupes iBrid polisher and other times I’ll do some hand polishing - every car is different so it’s a case by case scenario.

Try the orange first, if you get enough cut move up to the blue. But yes it can also be great on softer paint.

It was about a 25hr job of actual detailing - it’s just hard to be precise because filming greatly slows down the process.

Everyone’s goals, budget, circumstances, quality of work and skill level is extremely different, so it’s virtually impossible to compare apples to apples from one detailer to another or even from one job to another. So 12hrs might be ideal in your particular case based on those factors 🙂
