That moment when you push the start button and think to yourself "you better start!!" even though you know 100% that it's the startermotor. 😁

Everytime 🤣
Got a feeling my starter motor is on it's way, slow turn over (even with the battery fully charged overnight), hit and miss in the mornings as sometimes the starter drains the battery out before it fires up. Same M57 Engine (E53 X5), thought the only way was the ball ache of removing the intake manifold, so I was chuffed to see you have done a video that bypasses that. Thanks!
you are the only guy i finded, who removed the starter, without remove the intake, great job.the diesel has more clearance on the starter side than the gasoline version?? congratulations for this video.
J’ai la même x5 et le même moteur je voulais me lancer au démontage maintenant je sais comment faire Superbe merci
This method worked for me but whoever changed it before had done the bolts really tight, the 10mm flexi archer didn’t work but an E14 spanner did the trick!
I just completed this job and while the method you show might work for some, it was much faster to remove the intake manifold for me. I also had much more room with the manifold off and ended up using a 3/8 flex head ratchet with an e-star (torx) bit to remove the starter bolts. A standard 10mm box end wrench would likely have also worked so long as it had a slight bend in it.
The source of the oil leak is the intake manifold. So you better take it of and put new seals in it, to stop the leak!!!! Else you new starter will dy very soon for the same reason. Plus get the flaps out of the intake manifold, and seal them up with plugs.
Thanks for sharing bro! Keep it going

Thanks for the support
Great video thank you. Is the new starter a Bosch? Do you know the part number?
Hi O'Rileys - Thanks for your video! I have the same issue as this car. No attempt of starter solenoid to engage & confirmed power to solenoid when pressing start button. I'm struggling to find a flex head e-torx spanner, and I see you used a 10mm flex head 12 point spanner. In your experience, a non flex spanner won't work as you wouldn't be able to clear all the crap to swing the spanner eh? How long was your spanner? was those bolts done up tight enough to loosen with the spanner or did you have to get a socket out and access from underneath ? Cheers from Australia!

Hey. Don't think a solid spanner would work as the bulkhead would restrict the movement. The bolts were extremely tight but I managed to open it as seen in the video with the 10mm spanner. Another trick is to add an extension to the spanner by slipping a deep socket with extension over the spanner end. I didn't get underneath the vehicle. Not sure on spanner length but I'll measure it later. It's a Halfords 10mm flexible spanner.
Fantastic

How long it takes to replace the starter motor?
So, I have e a fly the same issue and this method will definitely save me time - I even have that halford flexible Spanner in my kit already - very handy for multiple jobs! Question though, I reckon my starter faked because it is covered in oil too - but did you ever trace the source of the oil leak and Fix that permanently? Was it the valve Cover gasket?? Common fail from what I understand?

Yes. Valve cover gasket 👍🏻
How did you know the starter motor was broken?
Good job
