►As the owner of a BMW X3, you'll eventually need to replace its transfer case fluid. The transfer case is bolted to the back of the transmission and sends engine power forward to the front differential via a few chains and sprockets. A special lubricating oil is used inside to keep all the moving components happy and cool, but it wears over time, significantly reducing its effectiveness. BMW recommends a replacement every 30,000 for long, trouble-free usage.
Replacing your BMW X3's transfer case fluid is a relatively straightforward process requiring only a few tools and some fresh fluid. It'll save you some money, too, as the cost of some fluid and an hour of your time is much less expensive than a few hours at a dealership or independent shop.

A 4Matic Mercedes transfer case fluid change DIY like this one would be pretty great. Especially for the W205 or X253...hint hint👀 Actually, more mercedes DIYs on either of those platforms would be greatly appreciated😅

As mentioned below by ashedkins, it's my understanding that adaptation reset is no longer specified my BMW. Can you comment on this? Greetings from the Old Jarhead from WNC

I would still do it after the transfer case fluid is replaced. It actually fixed a shutter I had under hard acceleration
Does this need the "adaptations" resetting after the oil change?

That’s a good question. My scanner provides this function for my E60 but not my F30. So I had my shop do the F30 fluid change and they said that nothing came up to do this reset. So bmw could have changed their protocol.

In the description, it says this is applicable to the 2013 X5 which I have. And you do indeed need to reset the adaptation for the transfer case. I used ProTool for doing this.

is there a adaptations reset for when either differential fluid is changed? If no, then I assume the same for transfer case. this is a chain on two sprockets (rear drive connecting to front drive) (kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqiHr8amob2fcsY.htmlsi=JP6IgjepthGNoRDi&t=641).

@@nevrcm3261no reset for differentials or even the transmission fluid change. Only for the transfer case.
Is it normal to feel a sort of "locked diff" feeling while turning at lower speeds?
