We took this video to show you how to change the oil on a BMW X3 E83 with the 2.5 or the 3.0 6 cylinder engine. We demonstrated on a 2005 BMW X3 equipped with the 3.0 engine.
This should be the same procedure for the 2004 and 2005 BMW x3 e83. The 2006 + models that are equipped with the n52 engine might differ a little bit.
Always make sure that you use BMW oil full synthetic or Castrol Full Synthetic or Mobile 1. You can check you manual and see what standards the oil must meet so you can grab the right oil for it.
BMW recommend for winter time to use 5w-30 and summer time 5w-40 oil. If you live north and it is cool all year around you should be perfectly fine with 5w-30 and if you live south you might use 5w-40.
Always pull the dipstick and check your oil level when done. NEVER overfill it because you might cause damage to the catalytic converter.

Gets right to business! The oil weight then oil brand then type oil filter & part number then 6.6 quarts of oil. Awesome video.

+LuxuryLifeWith_ Aly mine is Manual because It was imported from Europe. For the Automatic if you get under your vehicle on the bottom of the transmission there is a label that says the necessary fluid. For the 2004 and 2005 models I think Bmw recommends Mobil1 Synth Dex VI, which is about $12 on ebay for 1 quart.

I had to put fresh oil in with the old filter. Is it possible to remove the old filter afterwards without spillage, other than what is normally found in the filter ?

takes 7 quarts....not 6.2
Use 36mm for oil filter house.

clean the engine, damn.
Fram filters are literally the worst filtration available I think. Almost any other options is a better choice

That is a china oil filter. I only use Mann made in Germany, and you should not use those monkey wrenches when removing the oil filter,
