BMW S1000RR HP4 first ride

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The BMW S1000RR HP4 is the world's most advanced bike thanks to a semi-active suspension system which adjusts the suspension while on the move.
MCN Senior Road Tester Micahel Neeves put the bike through its paces at Jerez.

    in a way i agree i'm not a massive fan of traction control it should be down to the riders throttle control. but it's not like you can just pull it completely open and it does it for you, you still have to let the electronics know what you want within a certain parameter

  • @kalimera8764

    Exactly as Mr Neevie said. What is gonna be like in 10 years time. Also, if such a huge improvement is made from electronics (which are generally cheap to make, expensive at R&D), does this mean that the next or the second next generation of superbikes will have them as standard? Something like the ABS and traction control? Also those riding aids will blur the difference between the good and the not so good driver? Are they add to the enjoyment? Are they necessary after all?

    MotoGP bikes have even more electronics running things in the background and some have likely had self adjusting electronic suspensions for sometime. This machine would not be competitive without modifications. Just for reference the bikes in MotoGP make over 230bhp, now that might be crank horsepower but still more than a stock HP4. A lot of motogp machines are prototypes with odd engine/chassis designs and setups. Check out MotoGP Tech second edition by Neil spalding great read!

    I'm not sure about out dragging, even though I agree with the rest of your comment. The ZX-14 and the Hayabusa have been the best production bikes until now in drag races. I don't know whether the HP4 will beat that.

    @bampie1 you also have to consider the price difference across the bikes you mentioned. Just because the Bugatti Veyron is the fastest road legal car, doesn't mean that billionaires everywhere are going to ignore everyone else. 2013 Price Compares: ZX-10 ABS: $17,299 HP4: $21,900 Panigale R: $ 31,995 Having said that, someone justifying the extra $10k to purchase a Panigale R will probably be buying it for it's character... or so they say...

    I have to disagree that technology can be used for instance the electronic suspension works for you, one minute you are on normal roads then the next you are in the canyons which works for you no need to adjust the dampher/preload. But yes I agree with you, this is a race bike and this would be bliss to ride on track days. If I wanted a 1000cc I would be stuck between the s1000rr and R1, great for canyons and track which makes it worth having even though it is not friendly on streets.

If I had the money I would not get the RSV4 nor the Panigale I would get the HP4 this is an amazing bike.....you get a lot for the price, the S1000RR is also a great bike and the price is on cue. 1000 more than the R1 and 1000 cheaper than the ZX10R.

    Since BMW launched their first superbike the S1000RR Kawazaki and Ducati built bikes to beat the BMW and they just can't. As a first try BMW have built the best bike in it's class by a mile and to still be top after three years it just shows how good the bike is. I think Honda got it right with the Fireblade a superb bike and they just improved the best bits and didn't go after the BMW.

    actually m8 motogp bikes are back up to 998cc from this season so they could have the CRT bikes with superbike engines in like what Colin Edwards is racing, a highly modified BMW engine in a prototype chassis but you are right you couldnt use the BMW HP4 in a motogp race anymore than you could in a WSB race

    The reason why the Panigale couldnt beat the BMW was because it had problems with the ride by wire. This is fixed with the new up map. On the last shootout the 1199S was a full sec faster than the S1000RR in Calafat. The HP4 was 0.1 sec faster than the 1199S so you can be sure the 1199R will beat the HP4 on any track.

    You can turn it all off. I have a 2011 BMW S1000RR and at first I was dubious of all the electronics, but I commute on it every day, as well as taking it to the track. On my commute, I run it with ABS and traction control on; at the track, I run it in slick mode for the first two sessions until I know what the track conditions are, then turn it all off.

  • @mehrzweckreiniger
    @mehrzweckreiniger11 жыл бұрын

    BTW, im not a fan of the Panigale. In my opinion its to much track focussed. The engine is too weak in the mid, like a inline 4. I love the 1198S and the 1098R especially. With the right mods, these bikes rock! I know a 1098R with 190hp, at the wheel! Thats only 3-4HP less on the top compared to tuned S1K´s but much more at the bottom and mid. A 1198S with full exhaust and a upgraded fork is nice and very fast machine!

    Am I missing something here, the ZX10-R has switchable traction control for both road and race track, different power modes and electronically adjustable suspension. Just about the same spec as the S1000RR so where are they not drowning this bike with technology?

  • @AndreaPessino
    @AndreaPessino12 жыл бұрын

    I didn't say DRY, I said NO FUEL. Dry weight is without fluids, curb weight varies, but generally is without fuel - the number quoted in the HP4 presentation was race-ready, with the tank almost full.It is not "according to one article," it's a data point that no one has contested (except for uninformed you ;) ). Lastly, I've ridden the ZX and the S1K on the track extensively. An unrestricted ZX is great but I prefer the stiffer S1K chassis and its beastly engine, esp with the 12 revisions.

    This bike has over twice the HP/Weight than an Enzo Ferrari (0.439 hp/lb vs 0.216 hp/lb by my calculations). Insane. I'm sure there's bikes with more straight-line power than this one, but put that kind of power alongside everything else this BMW has to offer, and it's not hard to see how this bike is such a cold-blooded killer.

    440 lbs. is race ready - with the tank at 90%. The quoted Japanese bikes weigh that much without fuel. Yes, the Panigale is lighter - but it's not a liter bike (it's a 1200cc twin) and it's down a least 20 hp on the S1K - a base S1K pretty much destroys the Panigale on the track (the Pani is still awesome, of course!). Do a Google search for "BMW HP4 lightest" and read all about it. Either way, calling it a "tank" is kind of stupid, yes? ;)

  • @mehrzweckreiniger

    the price diff between s1k and 1199 is not so huge (3k). But again, s1k is a hell of a bike with a monster engine and overall still the best bike. Of course Duc needed 2 attempts, they were a tiny company. They didnt have recourses like the BMW empire. Things will change because Ducati belongs to Audi now.One more thing, Ducati offers a huge tuning programm for their bikes. Much more than others.So if you are willing to upgrade your bike, Ducati is the right adress. Upgrade a S1K? Good luck!

Point is this new HP4 is deffinetly a monster of a bike. Personally I will stick with my 08 R1 due to personal preference but european and japanese productions are different. Japan makes fast europe makes a "classy" fast. lol

    True, some of these magazines do operate like that. But, you'll start making better posts if you first consider that you might not know it all and that all of your suppositions are not fact. Many of the larger magazines couldn't afford to operate like that, because if their readers, who are not stupid, believe they are taking bribes it'd ruin their reputation - it wouldn't be worth the risk.

    The Jap's make superb bikes and have done more than any other manufacturer to drag biking into the 21st century. However the BMW will out drag, out sprint, out handle and outbrake the ZZR1400 (my favourite bike) the Busa, GSXR, R1 and Fireblade. But I still say the Fireblade is the easiest bike to ride fast and the most enjoyable out of all of them
