BMW S1000RR (20-24) Clutch Conversion Kit Installation
BMW S1000RR (20-24) Clutch Conversion Kit Installation
A wise racer once said, “Power is nothing without control.” In stock wheelbase drag racing applications, these words have never rung more true.
The 20-24 BMW S1000RR is certainly a powerful machine, and when Brock finishes prepping it for the Super Stock drag racing class, it will be a surely be a force to be reconned with… but alas, the bike has an issue from the factory that prevents smooth dead stop launches. The trend in the industry towards ‘assist’ clutches makes the OEMs happy because sufficient clamping force can be applied to the clutch pack without a harsh pull at the lever as a result of mechanical advantage, while also allowing a ‘slipper’ clutch action to help prevent wheel hop under aggressive downshifts. Unfortunately, this ‘assist’ design does not allow the rider to slip the clutch properly to obtain the quickest ET possible at the drag strip… so what now?
Brock teaches a masterclass in motorcycle clutch theory, maintenance, and tuning for performance while installing a Brock’s Performance Clutch Conversion kit in his buddy T’s 2020 S1000RR in his easy-to-follow style.

Always love watching your film Brock it doesn't matter which bike there on. There very entertaining to watch and full of information for doing this type of work on your own bike. More so if you order any tuning parts from yourselves. OK your maybe not there in person to carry out the work on owners bikes. But with these type of films you shoot you might as well be in the garage along side the owner carry out the project in hand. I think plus it gives the owner of the bike a bit more confidence to do the work themselves as well Brock. It's a lot easier to see how things are done rather then following a written instructions.

Anybody who luvs streetbikes and likes the straightline racing? can relate to this class, because it's bikes you can buy straight off the showroom floor. And with limited bolt on mods and ECU flash, you can go and race in the class.....

@BrockDavidson

Not as installed since the slipper mechanism contributes to the poor launchability of the BMW's. That said, if the mod is removed, the slipper will work again.
Can you do the same thing Brentuning does where he flashes the ecu and it maps itself for fuel any condition and anything? Brent says the bike never has to touch the dyno to run top notch at all times. Supposedly different technology in the ecu that can manage everything on its own with its closed loop system.

We will have an announcement on this exact subject a bit later...stay tuned!
I rememver being a poor teen trying to spport my habit and we had various tricks to eke more milage out of components....we would ressurect clutch that was just about had it by taking a center punch and putting a whle bunch of punch marks in the steel plates and gently rough up the fibers maybe even try to sneak in an extra plate if possible ...and then we might scrounge through parts boxes for stronger springs maybe even just every other spring if they were over the top ....hey if it kept it on the road another few weeks that was a success! To sqeeze more miles from drive chains? Just flip sprockets around l Keep trimming split frayed fuel lines or even finally splice to make one longer using some random metal tubing from dad's scrap bin etc etc....epoxy JB weld for cracked side cases ....bailing wire duct tape ANYTHING to keep a clapped out bike going one more ride with pals lol I actually broke the end off my throttle cable miles from home back in the hills and tied a knot around a nut I took off something else and stuck that in the front brake lever instead of the brake cable....necessity is the mother of invention type thing

Dave moss of race clutch knowledge.
Brock I’m not sure where to ask this question but here goes. I’m looking into lightening the flywheel on my bike to get it to rev a bit faster...what affect does reducing rotational inertia of the crank have on engine braking? Will a lighter assembly make engine braking more severe or lighter? I plan to do some street and road racing still
@BrockDavidson
3 жыл бұрын
David, great question. The effects of crank lightening can have a dramatic effect on torque output - this is determined by the crank you are lightening. As a general rule, older bikes benefit more as the engineering of newer bikes is so precise, that improving upon the factory specs/performance is unlikely. That a lighter crank will naturally reduce engine braking. Newer bikes can have both worlds - optimum crank weight for best overall performance, and electronics to adjust engine braking as well as optimize acceleration. If you would like, e-mail me at Bmail@BrocksPerformance.com with more specifics on you bike and I'll try to help more.
I heard the 2020 BMWs will self tune. Meaning if you install an after market exhaust it will automatically adjust the air/fuel ratio. Is that true? As always great informative video. Can't wait to see the next one.
@grandtaino
3 жыл бұрын
Yes she will self tune I ran mine with full akra for about 2000 miles before I tuned her with no issues at all, but for max performance you need a tuner like Brent tunning. All you need is 1 map for pump gas and she will adjust for the different octanes. They will give you also a map for MR12 BUT YOU CAN RUN IT with the regular pump gas map if needed, but for best performance I use the mr12 map.

Hello buddy! Great video! My s1000rr 23 is a strong nice bike tho i don’t like the clutch feeling plus the engine brakes specially on slow speed feels clunky, I mean is difficult to keep it on first and second speed to 20mph without experiencing some shaking behaviour. Any recommendations please?
@BrockDavidson

The assist clutches have terrible feel at the lever. You can feel them pulse in your hand as well as making the bike shutter and chatter on activation as well as when the anti- slip kicks in. Our conversion kit simply make the clutch work and feel like clutches used to feel before they started adding all of the features that save us from ourselves.

Will the auto blipper/quick shifter need to be recalibrated to work without the slipper/assist clutch?
@BrockDavidson
3 жыл бұрын
The conversion is to improve dead stop launches (drag racing/LSR etc.) We do not use auto blippers to downshift (we use our brakes in the shutdown area at the end of the run) and upshifts are not affected since the clutch is fully engaged when upshifting with either arrangement.
Hey brock,I am just curious, WHY DO THE K5/K6 SUZUKI GSXR 1000 DOES 0 TO 60 IN 2.35 SECONDS,HAS ANY OTHER BIKE BEATEN THAT YET?
@BrockDavidson
3 жыл бұрын
0-60MPH times are difficult to properly measure. I can tell you that, while the K5/K6 models were very stout for their time, today's bikes are much quicker and more powerful. This is why there were no K5/K6 models present at the 32 bike field of the XDA Fall Nationals in September 2020: bit.ly/3hIdwWz the 05 listed is a misprint as Jeremy Teasley was riding our 2017 project bike, Gixzilla.

@BrockDavidson

Stock clutch or aftermarket? Do you have a clutch mod? Without a clutch mod, if you perform dead stop launches all of the chattering that occurs can break the fiber plates... This is this is far more likely to happen with an aftermarket clutch than with stock. We use all stock fibers along with our clutch mod and spring kit and we have never fractured a fiber plate.
