Tech Talk: Motorcycle Clutch Maintenance and Performance Tuning

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Is my clutch slipping? How do I know? Is it time for a clutch replacement? How do I know? While I’m in here, should I tune my clutch for better performance? If so, what do I do?
Brock turns correcting a slipping ZX-14R clutch into a master class on clutch maintenance and tuning. Watch Brock, a multi-time AMA Dragbike national championship-winning drag race crew chief and first rider/tuner to put a street legal motorcycle into the 7’s, do what he does best… find solutions to problems which make ANY motorcycle quicker, faster, more consistent and less prone to failure under high-stress race conditions. Of course, Brock does his best to break down every aspect of this complex subject into simple-to-follow form for beginners, as well as provide content that will make many experts smile. He might even save you money on your clutch maintenance.
Grab some popcorn, as this one takes a while. We hope you enjoy ‘Tech Talk: Motorcycle Clutch Maintenance and Performance Tuning’.

Best, most informative video about Clutches that I've ever seen. Great job guys 👍 I can only add that if you see those little high-spots on a steel plate, you will almost always see little grooves around the fiber plate right where the high spot is on the steel plate and conversely, if you see a little groove in a fiber plate. look closely at the steel plate and you'll more than likely see a high spot on the steel that matches where the groove is on the fiber...

Brock Davidson Hi Brock, I have been having a problem with my 2018 GSXR 750’s clutch. It seems to be knocking when trying to get moving from a stand still. It tends to do it once the oil is warmed up. I have checked the sprockets and chain and they seem to check out alright. Here is a video of what happens. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qKdqqbSpY5TLf7A.html I would greatly appreciate it if you can diagnose that as the dealer I bought it from isnt much help. Thanks.

Today is the end of my 1st year of drag racing. I’ve made a point to take out time to thank those who knowing or unknowingly assisted me. I purchased my alien head 2 full system almost 2 years ago from your website & slowly piece by piece attempted to follow your stock to Brock’s for my 2015 zx-14r. Like most rookies I’ve failed a lot but I kept regrouping. Your video on clutch maintenance helped me find a problem that has bothered me all year. Clutch basket had slack it cause a break in my inner basket & broke my shift selector multiple times. I repaired the basket & made progress on my stock motor thanks keep up the good work! Your Clutch mod & springs gave my bike the ability to hold mph.

That was a top tier video. Thanks. It is surprising how similar the clutch is to a automatic transmission setup, I expected it to be something different. I enjoyed watching your thorough inspection techniques. That is probably the most important aspect of being a competent dyi builder/racer. It is an art to be able to see and understand the clues of what is happening inside the machine.. it will tell you what is wrong if you can spot the signs.
