There isn’t much going around that though, that’s just a cartridge filter for you 😂
The issue is not the cap, but the gaskets where the housing attaches to the block. What the market really needs is a full metal oil filter housing assembly, which was replaced with complete plastic ones in the B series motors. I’m a service advisor at a BMW shop and have seen a few of these cause cooling issues on low mileage motors.

Everyone thinks they use plastic caps to save on parts, but plastic doesn’t conduct heat like metal just in case and it is important, also plastic expands easier making this cap actually reliable and cooler. They crack if you over tighten it, they last 10 years easily, after that plastic will deteriorate just from age. So replace it every 10 years abs you’ll be fine 😊

The difference is the ability to retain heat. Plastic doesn’t retain heat. Metal does, causing the oil to overheat in some applications.
@Gold63Beast

@ian trofimov yeah. But it will also remain that heat for longer. Exposing the oil to higher temperatures for longer. Instead of passing through a “cooler” plastic part, it will now pass through a heat soaked metal part. Understand?

German engineers: let's put plastic everywhere!
@Hias0895

Yes we do and there are reasons. Thermodynamics and the resulting performance. Sure others can build it "right". But essentially these are just cheaply improved copies.
I've never known the filter cap to "fail" but they can be a complete PITA to remove. So any design that improves on the stupid rounded design with no nut or key to turn it gets a thumbs up from me.
Metal Caps will be hot at when you go to take them offs. Also they can get stuck much tighter than plastic due to thermal expansion. That’s housing basically a 4-12inch metal bolt that goes threw thermal expansion every time you drive.

Oh finally something from Blackwrench that doesn’t just poorly attach to the plastic cap with 3M tape.
My E39 540i I replaced the plastic components with Mahle kit that is aluminum also the filter holder
can you link where you buy that oil filter call from?
I was grateful to have a 92 525i 5 speed manual. Likely one of the last well-made easy to work on bmws. Of course it did have a lot of plastic on that that's when they started switching everything over to plastics. And now their technology and the excessive use of plastic and then having a big plastic cover on to keep the heat in is destroying them cars with less than 50,000 miles on them. I had 340,000 mi on mine before I finally sold it. And I beat the living snot out of this car as well. Original engine the heads or the lower end was just replaced but when I got the car. But the rest of the engine was original the clutch was original the transmission was original the rear end was original. I did have to put two exhaust on it. And replace the brakes a bunch of times I lowered the suspension an inch and a half but antara Wheels three spoke with the tire fill valve inside the center cap. Black on black. That car was so sexy looking

@@FritzRamos I had plans on rebuilding it but then when I went to jack it up after not driving it for a few years this floor the Jack went right through the jack spot on the bottom of the car so I was like oh boy. Not good. And then I got it started and every time I would start step on the gas that I don't go up but it wouldn't come back down and I have to turn it off in order not to blow it up. At the end the engine had this weird idol and it really didn't work well unless I was doing 75 80 miles an hour and then it ran like a champ. But you can't do that everywhere especially on Cape cod. I got it in San Diego drove it to Connecticut then drove it to Cape Cod.
Most filter housings leak from installation error

I agree or it’s not tight enough. The gasket is a problem tho especially on n54 but it’s a 30 mins job max
It’s awesome how that flap door stayed out of the way whenever you dropped the oil. Usually that thing pops up and I have a huge mess to clean up.
Most mechanic shops dont even use torque wrenches to measure how tight the wheels should be or to tighten filters caps in performance cars. Thats why most car tires rub on the inside or they get a sensor light warning on the dash because they tighten the bolts too much.

Sure does
I Can appreciate the idea of a metal housing, but Toyota has adapted them and I’ve had experiences where the largest breaker bars don’t take them off bc they get stuck. Once I had to result to a half inch impact
Im a BMW tech and replacing your plastic oil-filter holder with a metal one is just introducing more metal to your oil-flow. I recommend investing in a metal thermostat housing or steel braided lines. This vid is also missing the "ad" tag.
The ultimate driving experience?
2 sentences in : So why would I ever want to buy a bmw? Never once heard a complaint about a Honda :p
Does this fit E chassis N55 cars?
Not to mention those plastic propellers on the water pumps
Honestly, oil filter housing is always first to leak in my experience. If your cap is leaking, likely it is the "O" ring. (Improperly seated, flat/old seal, or over-torqued)
With this mod I can finally show up to cars and coffee!
Now I see why ls swaps are common with these boopers
My e46 m3 has a metal one from factory :)
I had to go back and check out that MANN filter, I saw the color right at the end and thought "No way this boy just put a fram filter in".
Uhh, the oil filter housing on my 2004 6.0 powerstroke is still stock, still perfect condition, and it runs on pretty high oil pressure.
This is exactly why bmw looked down on
That plastic hose housing is must to replace it was leaking on mine so I put a metal one

I love how plastic components of german cars fail but toyota has plastic too and they don't fail. Mine has a plastic valve cover and the engine is 11 years old with 130k on it there is not a single sign of oil leak anywhere in the engine bay. I remembered the metal ones used to leak but the plastic ones are now not leaking 😂 , also the newer dynamic force engine like the m20a & m25a has so much plastic & tech yet in last 4-5 years they have proven themselves to be reliable.

that is literally the most accessible oil filter I've ever seen. that's really cool, especially in this day and age when serviceability is typically very off-putting. I also like how Germans (VW does it too) use paper oil filters instead of the metal cartridge. it's much better in terms of waste.

Only BMW I would consider getting is any b58. If Toyota thinks of putting it in their car, it might actually be quality
Any for Mercedes?
Did you say eXpecially lololololllll
tbh, if you could see how much your engine moves throughout the bay, you would understand why plastic parts are necessary. "upgrading" these parts to something more rigid can actually cause other parts to be overstressed and ultimately fail. plastic parts are designed to only have a certain lifetime and then be replaced. its a bit counter-intuitive but overengineering certain aspects to be indestructible can have alot of unintended consequences.
Do they make these for the bmw f30 328i’s?
I wish someone would make an entire kit of engine parts made of metal with better thicker seales. Don't know why BMW don't feel ashamed of this chronic problem of theirs
CHP will find a way to state ref you for this 😂
My bmw 1993 e36 m3 has metal everything including the iron block, only plastic bullshit is the engine cover. New shit isn't made to the longer lasting quality standards. Today longevity is no longer considered. Dealerships always benefited from this but it's way more prevalent today.
