BMW N62 BROWN TOP HOSE? DANGER!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I was warned about this 8 months ago - if your coolant top-hose has gone brown it has also gone brittle and could fail at any time. You don't want the top hose to fail as it lets out most of the coolant if 10 seconds and you will soon be sitting in a 2-ton lump of scrap metal.
In this video I show how to replace the top hose, how to bleed the system and, more importantly, how to save your pets from drinking poisonous coolant!

    I just got a 650i 6mt, Ive been a bmw “loverl for years, however, this is a new old car for me and coming from e30’s this is highly “complicated” :) I was looking for a video that can tell me what should I do to the car as a new owner especially engine wise! Found a bunch of useful stuff on your channel, so thank you very much Sir! Its a fun car to drive, I’m not scared bout the maintenance, I know I wont even come close to the way you treat yours, but I hope that based on your recommendations I can drive mine for a few years to come! Much respect and thank you for you for taking your time to make these videos , there arent many on this car 🙌

    I have an electric sealy oil transfer pump that Is very useful for the extraction of coolant. You can put the suction pipe down into the engine or radiator and extract lots of coolant. I got about 4 lites out of the X3.

    I just finished replacing the expansion tank on my 04 BMW X3 3.0. It took me half an hour just to get the top hose off the radiator as it was stuck. Give me a jubilee clip any day.. mind you the jubilee clip system is very prone to leaking a few days later.

    Hi Tim, thanks for posting another great video, does that top hose come supplied with all the other bits attached? Or did you buy each bit separately and stick them all together before replacing? Can you also do this job without the ramp and taking the bottom panel off? Many many thanks again, I am going to give this a go if I don't have to use a ramp and get under the car

  • @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation

    @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation

    Hello Doug, yes you can do it without removing the bottom cover and not on ramps - you will have to run a hose onto the bottom cover to keep the coolant moving out of the way. The pipe (see description) comes with all the appendages.

    Hello Doug, if I was filling the complete system then I would use a 50/50 mix - but as I was only replacing 2 or 3 litres then I used neat coolant to replace the lost qualities of the aging coolant.

  • @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation

    @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation

    Hello JP, I would go for the lower hose - the under-engine cover will have to come off, use a big catch can as around 7 litres will come out. The lower hose connects to the radiator with a quick-release fitting just the top hose. You will not get all of the coolant out, but enough. Have 3 litres of coolant ready and the same in distilled water...
