BMW M3 Undercarriage Cleaning and Detail

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2021 BMW M3 Competition is in the Studio this week to prepare for an upcoming photoshoot with @machineswithsouls and for the huge east coast car show, MPACT, at Pocono Raceway. This BMW M3 is covered in Performance Driving School Livery from South Carolina and makes this detail a bit more challenging because the wrap is matte and has rubber spots from track driving. Although this is not a complete disaster, BMW has asked that the interior, especially the driver seat and steering wheel be cleaned and disinfected to remove sweat and grime from long track sessions and driving lessons. I performed a paint correction with full compound and polishing. Once done we applied AMMO Reflex Pro to the exterior for insane reflection and paint coating protection and added Gelee Pro to the very complicated, yet beautiful wheels. For a full list of products visit www.ammonyc.com. Thx for watching! -L

As always such a professional job well done! Curious though: when blowing out the pad I notice it is near the car?! Any concern for contaminants blowing into the air and onto the car? I remember you blowing the pads into a bucket before. (Hey some subscribers pay attention to your tips lol!)

  • @AaronBowendrummer

I’m curious on that as well. I remember which episode your talking about with the cleaning station for the pads. On that episode he said they did that because they were in a room with multiple high end cars that if they weren’t careful they would basically have to detail them all to ensure they stayed clean. On this I would imagine he’s not so worried about it because the shop is empty and he’s able to focus on just that car and has a better idea as to where the fallout will land. Just a thought but I’m curious on Larry’s take as well.

Pro tip: pick up a spare shop vac. Then track down a relatively shallow container (3 gallon bucket, large mixing bowl, plastic flower pot, etc.) Drill a hole on the bottom of the container the same size as the vaccum hose. Stick the vacuum hose into the hole, then mount the container onto the vacuum somehow. (zip ties, hot glue, whatever...be creative!) Now you have a dedicated collection device for when you blow out pads. Bonus points if the vacuum is on wheels! Even more bonus points if you make a foot pedal to turn the vacuum on and off. 😉

Hey Larry, just some tip from a mechanic. I see in many videos that you break loose the lugs using muscle force, don´t do it that way please you will hurt your back! do it pushing down with your body weight istead pulling up with your back muscles, it´s safer and easier. 9:57 the struggle of polishing BMW jet black! It's incredibly difficult. Another method I've found is using 3M ultrafine polish and pad (light blue). Do roughly 3-4 passes. Start with medium pressure but then use less pressure with each pass. Polishing a whole car painted in that color is no easy job and I struggled to find a method that worked for that paint.

False. You have more control pulling than pushing. Because once the torque breaks while pushing you're either going to bust your knuckles on the ground and have a higher probability the socket and bar will slip causing damage to the wheel. Larry knows what he's doing.

Larry, no need for an impact. Just use leverage on that breaker bar to your advantage. Start with the bar nearly horizontal with the ground away from you. Now push _down_ on the bar. You have more force behind you whilst pushing down than pushing forward. Hope this makes sense

just a quick question on do's and dont's with carbon ceramic brakes? i always seem to hear that you should avoid any wheel cleaners on them and ideally the wheels should just be washed with pure shampoo to avoid any damage to the brakes.
