Happy manual M135i / 500 hp project car owner here. If you plan to do track-days, Nurburgring and serious backroad driving please upgrade to LSD/coilovers/bushes/wheels and tires before adding even more power! The car deserves it and it will transform your beautiful M140i to a serious track weapon- able to play with Caymans, M2's etc.

Have you upgraded the oiling system with the M2 sump and pumps? I am looking for do this on my baby, and in the same time replace the con rod bearings. I am planning to do this by myself

@@lucaalux Hi there. No- I found it to be too expensive an upgrade... Instead I installed an MMR oil sump baffle. I always keep my oil levels at maximum- and change the oil every 5000 km/ twice a year. I always use 10W60 oil. My car is from 2014 and I have no issues with oil starvation etc. The car is often driven hard and have seen alot of track days with no engine issues.

You need these to make it handle very well: 1. M3 front control arms 2. PU inserts for rear sub frame bushes 3. LSD 4. Other damper / coil over

Honestly they don’t even handle bad standard. Rolls a lot but not as terrible as it seems. Baring in my mind mine has all the mods you listed now.

There's one major reason that people seem to overlook when choosing the M140i over the M2...the M140i is a practical hatchback. Of course it's not as adept around twisty roads, but with a few small upgrades, it's performance for a relatively cheap hatchback is unmatched.

Agree. Excellent choice. Definitely a future classic. I've been running the kw v2s and I daily the car, really helps compose it a bit more. I need an lsd and wider tyres then it should handle great for a road car.

its refreshing you still have the M140i after its be discontinued I still have my black shadow edition version from 2019 here in the uk , will never sell it, its such gem of a car and a sleeper !

I fell in love with M140i when I saw that black widebody 1series speeding through Nurburgring. Unfortunately, IDK who's the owner. It was like a mini RS6, but it could probably run circles around actual RS6 in real life.

Did you tune your gearbox as well? I have 340i, looking for MHD Stage1 too, but I dont want to spend twice as much because of a gearbox tune if it is not necessary. On the other hand - I don't want to ruin the gearbox :)

Cant wait to see the stage 2 video! I am assuming zero changes were done for Stage 1 so far?

Lovely video, owning a M140i Xdrive (STOCK), still thinking of upgrading to stage1 and do a bilstein suspension upgrade. Since i live in Belgium i'm really limited on what i can do to the car and still pass inspection..

Back in 2017 I bought brand new an M240i with the Ohlins suspension kit and the LSD. I assure you, after buying the MHD stage 1, it's literally better than any M2 !!

Definitely isn't mate, which is why track spec M140/240i's still do a 5s+ on Nürburgring runs. The chassis is completely different. Don't be that guy lol

What’s the option/PR code for the upgraded brake kit from BMW spec sheet?

Funny to tell, that before the tune this exact car lost sprinting on the highway, to the Seat Leon Cupra stage 1 that just featured last week. Guess that has changed now 😅

Miss my stage 2, family grew and became to small for daily usage, wish i put a diff in it before i sold to get the full potential out of it. Granted it didn't handle the best at all didn't ever fill me with much confidence lol

i installed the factory limited slip diff on mine, it handles better but once you lose grip, its much more snappy on the back end, so careful not to overcorrect.

@@tavulechinois no, its about the same, it just doesn't give you a warning, with open diff only 1 wheel spins, so it doesn't snap the car as quickly as limited slip. but when you have grip, limited slip works magic, unless you are trying to drift haha.

I love the quicker gear changes with xHP, but have found it to be a bit too jarring switching into 5th and 6th gears when in sport/manual mode with a stage 1 tune. Is it just me?

lsd would be a must for such a car

My m140 has been custom stage one tuned my Mike ball at more bhp with an m performance lad on a cold day 1c I managed a 100-200 at 7.46 sec

Swapped OEM Paddelshifters against magnetic ones from 55Parts milled out from a full piece of real carbon. I honestly can imagine for some people might be way to loud but I really do love how racy they look like, how rigid and sturdy they feel and how sporty they sound…by the way quite similar to the satisfying audible and tactile click of the mechanical keyboard I use at work! 😍👌🏻 I could shift gears for no reason all day long… 🤣🫣

If you ordered that they were equipped with a 6 speed manual transmission, some even with LCI 2 facelift in 2017 until they discontinued it

its so strange because here in the UK we have the rear wheel drive only, on MHD stage 1 on 99 fuel (our top grade) my car does a 8.3 sec and on MHD stage 2 does 7.6 sec. I cannot believe the difference the AWD makes to times and weight! On dragy leaderboards most UK RWD models do similar numbers to me! perhaps fuel was poor or the AWD really does suck out a lot of top end and power transferring to the ground when you eliminate wheelspin

What was your stock 100-200 time ? My RWD 340i ran 9.2 100-200 on RON 92 tune.

Don't know how well the example transfers but the f30 330d RWD and AWD have vastly different 100 to 200 times, so I'd imagine AWD does slow it down a fair bit high end, whether that's due to the drivetrain loss or something else.

Those are nice numbers, 7.6s seems a bit too good :D My M240i RWD did 100-200kmh in 8.84s on 93oct/98ron fuel. But the M140i in the video is RWD not AWD. What kind of fuel is 99 fuel? Here in Czech Republic, Germany etc. we get max 95oct/102ron fuel.

@@tbbmw_m240i its equivalent to 99 RON we do not get 102 here, i do have an eventuri but dont think that makes much difference. Its a rare m140i championship edition auto which weighs 1480kg on scales 1/4 tank no driver. Many people in uk on stage 2+ with HPFP dragy 7 - 7.4 sec. Xhp of course too

GR Yaris is a lot more fun, raw, explosive. M140i is obviously more luxurious but it couldn't handle "off-roads" as good as GR would. Also 10 year warranty on GR Yaris vs 4/5 years on a BMW. (I am a BMW fan but those are just facts)

Shifting is still laggy....

Glad you brought up the suspension point. The chassis is hopeless and can barely contain standard power, let alone anything tuned. Not a real BMW, in that sense - even their M cars always had a chassis that was a bit faster than the engine. This is just a muscle car that would be firmly spanked on a B-road by a new M135i.

@@Real-IMS He has 19 inch wheels in OEM size on the car as he said (245/30 19 rear) Even if he would put 18 inch wheels in OEMS size on the car (245/35 18) the circumference rolling diameter will not change. That’s anyways already a very low tire profile on the series with 35 on the rear at 18”: e.g. you don’t get a 245/30 18 tyre All BMW Wheel sizes for 1/2series from 16 to 19” have almost same circumferancal diameter

The manual is a bit shit? I have to defend the honor of my M140i 2018 manual....the gearbox is quite ok and the ratios are even short. I have also a G80 manual and a Z4M E86 and the M140i manual is almost as enjoyable. The car only needs a LSD and a DSC mode as the MDM and it would be a weapon.

​@@vollcare4076 The G80 feels similar, the force to insert gears are a bit higher and there is more mechanical/metallic feel and less rubbery. In the Z4M the gearbox (I think it is the same from the M3 E92) is even less rubbery but not more precise than the M140i. I would say I prefer the gearbox of the M140i over the gearbox of the Z4M. Being the G80 the best of the three.

​@@Ragondin13 Dsc is the name in BMW for traction and stability controls. In M-cars there is a mode MDM (M dynamic mode) which allows more "freedom" and less interventions from the controls.

This has to be the most common 'hot hatch' you see here in the UK, even more common than a GTI. They're everywhere, super cheap, and have a great engine. People just like to crash them a lot lmao

Those M sport 116d really grind my gears ahah What a strange idea to go for the little engine but spec +3000€ of "sport looking" package (+ stiffer suspension) Therefore you can be on the opposite side : Having a 120i or 125i but "non sport". Nobody want to race you, but you got some muscles
