Another great video, in the UK we have mandatory annual checks after 3 years and then every year call an MOT test, which has to be done by a Ministry Of Transport approved test centre, and that does pretty much what your inspection has done, however you never see everything, it like playing with the car without getting my fingers dirty!..lol well done Pat.

As always informative, instructional and entertaining. All the best with your channel. A refreshing format with a focussed and passionate address of your i8. I know I would love one and although no longer manufactured, it's still an amazing proof of concept. Maybe one day if finances permitting a late model with extended warranty and I will be very happy to apply many of your mods.

Thanks Docta! Please see the description for the depth measuring tool in the description. It's relatively inexpensive and I take it with me to measure tires on used cars I'm considering purchasing. It's great to negotiate the price down when I show the salesperson the true depth.

Bummer on the CV bootie. That is a messy job so good you can get that done. Look around a bit more to see if you can determine the cause. They should last quite a bit longer that that. That is strange. The grease in there is black so sounds like that is what you are seeing... Nice job going through everything! Thanks! F

Thanks Franny. I posted on the i8 FB group and 5 other people told me they had the same exact problem. Some had it happen under factory warranty and the shop replaced both axles because when one goes, the other is expected to go. That bothers me. There's no individual boot that can be ordered to replace this one. It's an entire axle swap, from what they've told me, because the part manufacturer doesn't sells the boot separately. I spent an hour under there yesterday and can't find the cause. It just looks like a pin hole. They may decline me warranty replacement (claiming debris hit it) so I have to decide if I'm going to seek out a universal boot or pay them $4k for the $1300 part plus labor and alignment IF they tell me they won't cover it.

@@PatsGarageOnline What! had to replace both axles! that sounds crazy im sure that it must be possible just to get the correct rubber gaiters..i would hope that someone has managed to find a correct replacement gaiter, as it must just be just something like the diameter of each end and the width..BMW must have a supplier in germany.

@@PatsGarageOnline thank you for your advice....a message now sometimes pops up saying: (thermic) engine error (drive train...can't restart) + RBS malfunctioning (unable to do brake retrieval)...but when I restart All Is again clear (no error at all)!!! Please help me! Thank you

@@hussilveridico3002 These are general errors that don't point to a specific problem. The only way to diagnose the issue is to have BMW check it out, unfortunately.

So when you took it to the dealer did they find the leak, what was it and how much was it. Great video by the way.

I took it to the dealer and let them know that the CV Joint had a pin hole. They confirmed and replaced the entire axle under CPO warranty, at no cost to me.
