BMW F30 N20/N26 Water Pump & Thermostat DIY (328xi, 328i, 528i, Z4, X1, X3, 428i, 228i & more)
►The modern BMW engine is getting more and more electronically controlled. This includes the water pump found in the N20 and N26 (along with others) engines. Because it is not a belt driven water pump, this job is relatively simple with just a few tools and a little know-how. This job should be done if you are seeing any leaks coming from the water pump or thermostat housing but also if you are seeing fault codes 2E81, 2E82, 2E85.

This flange is known to fail and this job is a perfect opportunity to upgrade to an all aluminum flange to eliminate the problem.

When I replace the water pump, I also do the thermostat. For a few more dollars you can replace all the hoses which have the plastic connectors that get brittle with high mileage. If you are replacing the hoses, the lowest one drill a 1/4” hole and drain cleanly. As it drains take higher connections apart to vent and drain completely.
Ordered a new water pump off FCP but the Only thing I’m struggling with is trying to get the back two bolts out. Not sure how you got them did you take out anything else to get to the two bolts?
On the 320i do I need to drop the power steering to have better access to the bottom bolts?
Do you need to take of the belt?
Did you have to remove the sub frame to get the bottom two bolts out
Can we get some B46/48 engine (F48) repairs and maintenance videos - like transmission fluid change, diff fluid change.
Coolant used to taste sweet. The bittering agents have been added over the years to discourage pets from drinking it and dying.

Awesome video even though cameraman blows. "We will take off this bolt and this bolt." Cameraman stays on your face. "As you can see, the hoses start to collspse" Cameraman stays on your face; quick glace at out-of-focus hose, then back to your face.
Sir, can I ask, my BMW is F30 320i, yesterday I replaced the thermostart after it was finished I was bleeding but the water pump didn't drain the liquid into the reservoir tube, I have followed the steps, are there any other problems on my BMW?
