Good video Dan,. Good old fashion "VD" voltage drop. I do think Flexray is going to be used for all new vehicle's, and for autonomous applications via ADAS. Flexray speed is 20Mbit/sec through the gateway into the ADAS system and steer by wire systems all we have to do for the limp home mode for that situation is get the computer to turn on your four-way flashes cuz you're going to be coming to a fast stop. With the LIDAR system and ADAS it'll be able to pull you over fairly easily having 360° view of all surroundings.

Hi, I have been enjoying your video. Since I have owned a BMW Z4 E89 and recently having tech issues on the EPS, I would like to obtain your views on replacement parts. BMW Dealer here says the car can be fixed by exchanging whole steering column. But cause of problems was faulty EPS motor. So I have done separating motor and sent to a professional for rebuild. The fixed motor was back on the steering column and car is fine now. Shall we relay on assembly parts exchange based fixing for long term reliability or finding the real cause of problems and replace individual parts for saving costs?

I want to learn more! Nice repair. I would have covered the bare terminal with silicone sealer. This connection is in the path of corrosive elements, bad choice on BMW’s part. Solder and heat shrink is the only option for any permanent repair. Here in America, the majority of mechanics think it is proper to use crimp connectors and call it fixed.

Awesome video Dan! I used to see "fried ECU's" on mk2 VW's due to a bad battery ground cable going to the transmission or people not attaching the cable after a clutch replacement (starter tries to ground through the ECU). Dan Sullivan's "LoadPro" in action... with no royalties going to him. =( (I hope I have my facts right... my apologies if I don't).

Thomas EXOVCDS positive voltage will always try to find a way to ground, when a big ground cable is bad the current can start to flow thru a smaller cable or circuit that was not designed to carry this current ( like blowing a fuse) the circuit can become overloaded and fail.

Hi there, very nice video, thanks a lot. I have mechanicly bad steering rack . Got another and swapped the EPS units thinking car would think it is the same EPS but did not work. Is it possible to get a replacement rack and stick original EPS to the motor or they go as a pair? I did just that and getting CD951B message - actual steering torque driver actuator/actual force rack , 49.0.2 - signal invalid. I suspect that EPS and torque sensor on the rack don't like each other.Reprogrammed, recoded using ISTA but with no avail

This type of power steerings are such a pain... 1st I replaced the electric steering pump on my fiance Fabia and I thought that was expensive, but then my 2010 Passat has a similar steering rack fried and I still didn't change it, and now my mom's E87 2010 which I think has the exact steering rack like the one in the video, gave EPS: Steering torque sensor error but somehow after I cleared the code it's working and I hope it will not break because it costs a ton of money, almost double than the Passat one. I wonder if there are parts available for this racks like dc motors and sensors.

Hi Dan. I have a 2012 BMW X3 and has an intermittent error (steering malfunction) when I start the engine, but no steering issues after I confirm with an OK on the dashboard. absolutely random ( for example now it is 3 weeks without and error, but I had days where it comes up in the morning). Someone mentioned the ground wire at the batttery. Is this a common problem?
