I have BMW650I 2007 all of a sudden after being out, tried to switch the car BUT the ignition won’t start. The car stayed at the garage overnight. The garage told me it’s a battery 🪫 issues. Had the battery replaced on warranty while the car was running. Switched the ignition off tried to switch the car on BUT it won’t start. I knew it wasn’t the battery. Took the car again on trailer to the same garage. He told me it’s the battery 🪫 again. Tried switching the car after trying it started. Decided to take the car home. I watched your video specifically focusing on the fob Keys battery. I always keep spare batteries at home. SO I replaced the fob key battery. Since no issues SO far. Keeping my fingers cross. I was considering the IVM supply power unit. SO far so good. Thank you SO much for identifying the fob key battery. The car with NO starting issues so far for the last four weeks. However am making sure the auto headlights are off during the daytime. Am checking the gear box sticker light it goes off after a while. One thing I would like to share Re electrical modular. When I switch the car off I could hear some noise in the dashboard passenger side. I am assuming it’s the IVM modular. The climate is extremely hot sometimes 48c during summer. Hope my contribution would help others to diagnose the issue by simple steps. The fob key battery 🪫 cost £2 very easy to replace, no need for programming whatsoever. The main car battery 🪫 cost around £150. These simple steps are important. 🙏

Wow, were to start? Guess I have a nice check list to go through though, thanks. Here in the States, daughters 06 325i e90, she drove car to her brothers no problem, went to leave, now it won't crank. Guess I'll check DME for moisture. Fob works for entry and such. Battery checked out, now a little worried, the kids tried to jump it under the hood with no improvements, hoping whatever the issue is, maybe protected the system from damage, fingers crossed.

Dean, BMW Doctor your knowledge is outstanding, I've got a battery discharge over a couple of nights it isn't flat but the cluster info zeros ie clock to zero, mpg ect all to zero with a warning car on lift, and battery discharge shows up in writing. Ive taken it to be checked and they say there is no fault. I would love you to have a look at it as I believe you would find the fault. You don't live anywhere near Sheffield do you.

If I did fry my ecu and cas 3 could I replace it with one from a different car and used the other cars keys to get mine going again?...my bad its a 07 328i and I did try jump starting my car with the intelligent battery disconnect....saw your video a little late but it did teach me alot of not to do things

I have a 2006 325i and I was having a weird rpm fluctuation problem, usually when its warmed up, it would go down to like 350 - 400 rpms then it would shoot itself back up to about 1200rpms and it would continuously bounce up and down until i held the throttle down into high rpms. I changed the plugs and it got wayyyy better for about a month and now it wont even start and the battery is dead. im going to get a new battery, correctly code it, and start somewhere near the MAF sensor, since i had some fuel coming out at the fuel rail.. any tips are greatly appreciated.

Hi my 2011 320d touring has an intermittent no crank no start problem. Its been to a bmw specialist and they replaced the battery then 3 days later it happened again. Went back to the garage and they had it 3 days and reprogrammed the CAS system it was fine for 3 days then happened again. Do you think it could be the IBS module. Many thanks Graham

Hi, where is the fuel pump relay on the e60 530d (2006), my pump primes and shortly stops. Changed pump recently. I checked in fuse box in cabin, can't find it. The K96 relay.

Hello my friend, I have a question that has bothered me for several years. I have a BMW, e60, 2010 model. I noticed when I was walking on a mountain road for an hour, especially in the summer, and after stopping and turning off the engine, if I tried to turn the engine after a few minutes, I hit the predecessor and the engine does not rotate (it dings a little and then the rbm counter drops to zero) and I had to wait for about an hour for it to start again successfully, noting that there is no warning message on the screen and this I only noticed while walking on a mountain road uphill. What about if have a car that is a crank no start,. Can this still apply, Does the Cas and DME still need re syncing ?

Hi mate lovely video! I need a help with my car no garage seems to find the issue… so i have a bmw 5 series 2012 manual and when i start the car in the morning or if i havent driving the car for a few hours its starts fine without issues but once i drive it for around 20 minutes and i turn it off i wont be able to turn it back on i tried everything power leads,starter motor checked battery voltage also on starter motor and alternator. Had it full diagnostic and got a couple codes but mainly it was 9307c2 - start/stop button short to b+. Sorry if doesnt make much sense ..

How about a clutch switch for the manual cars? I have a no start issue, but I can push start the car. No clicking on attempt. So I'm thinking I have a clutch pedal switch issue. Do these cars have one?

Thanks for the video mate, didn't know about not jump starting, thats clutch. Got a no-crank on a E61. Happened mid drive, stalled it, couldn't get it started again. Starts without issue on a push start but not on a battery/starter pack. I connected power to the front terminals (low enough voltage to not fry anything) and no current was flowing so Im suspecting gnd connection or a relay. Any thoughts are appreciated

Very informative video IV been telling customers for years don't jump from the front of the engine.... It is relatively safe to jump from the rear direct. As you said IBS serves its purpose.

Hi doc i have a E91 320D N47 cranking no start. 2 fault codes are stored present C91D , FFFF. chain is ok , diesel is there reaching the injectors but didnt test the pressure!

Great video!! I have a 2006 e91 wagon. The car was running great. It sat there for a couple of days in the cold and the battery went dead. Went to the dealer, got a new battery, put it in. Now the car cranks but will not fire. Any suggestions as to where to start to diagnose this problem?

My 2011 328i had a power drain issue that killed the battery and during jumping off the battery I believe I fried the Footwell module because of no interior lights, no window movement, headlights constant on and tail light but no brake light. I am ordering a new module to fix that problem and charged the battery but now the car is wanting to start but it won't turn over. What do you think is the reason for it not starting?

Great videos brother I have simular problem with no crank no start but after 10min of trying its does start and then it's start everytime but if I leave the car over night and then try to start I have same problem. But it seems in hot weather it usually start quicker but in colder weather it take long time time start it. And also after day or two it shows low battery. Something is draining battery. Hi mate I have a Bmw e60 530d 2005 m sport LCI and need help. I had it put in a garage for the stator motor replacing and in short words it fell out and damaged the starter motor because it wasn’t tightened correctly. Luckily the ring gear isn’t damaged. I’ve replaced the starter motor and now it won’t start at all first start motor turned out to be wrong one so I put another one on same and the original starter motor and still won’t start but now my key is stuck in the ignition and won’t realise and the ignition would stay on constantly but now the ignition has gone off but still won’t realise the key any idea what it could be ?? much appreciated if you could put me in right direction to get it fixed. Hello so I have a manual 07 e92 we’re the clutch pedal won’t go down all the way and cause of it I can’t engage the switch so the csr won’t start do you happen to have ideas?

I’ve got an 2006 E90. Replaced the engine from an 07. Car would turn over but not start. Put the ecu and CAS from the donor where the engine came from and it starts but runs rough. I get errors that the vin doesn’t match. Is there a way to use my original ecu and CAS with this engine?

@BmwDoctor Hi Dean I’m having an issue with my 2006 E60M5 I was cleaning out my car with the doors open all of a sudden the interior lights cut off… I shut all the doors and proceeded to start the car my SMG gear lever never illuminated. I always cut my car off and leave it in reverse so when I went to restart it my car was stuck in reverse and I can’t get the gear lever to light up now

Found the issue 🙌🏻 got the battery charged was cranking but not starting (I’m thinking fuel). Fuel was low (but not massively) topped up with a can (1/4 tank)...starts...yay! But now I’m wondering why it’s not returning fuel 🤔 any ideas? 🙏🏼

I have 325i, 2007, E93 Convertible. I have been switching the engine on / off recently when idle on traffic lights trying to be environmentally friendly. The other day, I switched it off and didn't start back again, no crank. i called the AA, checked the battery 12.6, all lights are working fine, however, when i use the key to open the car, I don't hear it priming anymore. i checked fuse 15 is fine, KL 30 relay no corrosion or burn mark on it. What could it be please?

14:05 I have a E60, I don't see the ground strap. Where is it supposed to be connected to. My car is cranking but no start. Was looking to replace the fuel pump relay as I got a code for the fuel pump and have replaced it and still no start. Hi Dean, I came to my E60 this morning and I've got this problem. It was fine last night but it was raining bad. There's no water under my servo and I can't see any water under the passenger side, Nor any water in the boot. If I undo the IBS my car does start as normal. When I reconnect it (ignition off) it won't crank or start again. Is it a big job to do and will I need any special tools etc?

Hi , great video. I'm having issues with the Immobiliser being out of sync, happens randomly, once a month and I'm on the verge of just getting rid of the vehicle. 3 indy specialists just say come back when it happens, they can not give a reason as to why this is happening. Have you any ideas, its happening when using both keys? would a new key solve the issue? Could it be the battery in the fob its self? Any light shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi BMW doctor, Im from the US and I just recently bought a used 2006 E60. I had to replace a few minor things but hasn’t given me any big problems. However, when I put my key fob in the slot nothing happens, no crank, no start. The lights on my dashboard won’t even turn on. Now I thought it could be the CAS module under the steering wheel but wouldn’t I still be able to see dashboard lights? I don’t really know what it could be. Key fob works, new battery, and unlocks doors. If you have any tips, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Battery fine, but intermittent no start, happened first time a year ago, then 6 months ago, then 2 months ago, now 3 times in 2 days. Get lots of error messages on the display, last 3 times the windscreen wipers started working. Leave the car for 5 to 10 minutes and it starts and all is good. BMW 320D 2011 E90. Thanks.

my E90 LCI experienced no start recently. when I checked the error code, CAS seems to be failure and also FRM problems. I have replaced a VGM battery and programed the CAS and FRM, it was fixed, but just a short time, about 2 weeks passed, CAS and FRM error still happen and I can heard clicking sound form the fuse box, sometimes the break light do not goes out when stop car even pull out the key. just want to know if the CAS problems would incur the FRM errors and fuse box misfunctioning. thank you for your advise.

I have 650i 2006 and my car won't start sometimes , i think starter overheating might cause the problem because december , january and february were cold and everything was fine , now its getting warmer and problem comes back. If i go somewhere and turn off the car after an hour driving it might not start and i have to wait 15min or even 30 min. Can you tell your opinion?

Thank you for your helpful videos on youtube. My car works for 2 week or so and then it refuses to start. After a few days or a week it normally starts and runs like nothing happened. It happened 3 times in approximately 1 month.. 2004 525i Touring, 259000 Km We love this car and the ride is so nice. But recently, I am having problems with the car. As I mentioned, the car sometimes does not start (After a few days it will start and work smoothly like nothing happened). I think the transponder on the key does not talk to the receiver on the steering assembly. I am not sure... (When the car does not start, Dashboard do not start or light up - No Crank - No Start - Power seat adjustment, power windows, steering level adjustment, central locking etc all work - Battery Good). Private mechanics here in Norway could not find the problem after troubleshooting for 5 hrs. They say they do not get any error code and they are not able to find the problem. I checked with BMW and they say they cannot assure to find the problem and it could take 1 hr or even 20 hr ( x 150 USD $/hr) to troubleshoot and identify the problem, and also they do not commit they can identify. Repair costs will be extra. on top of this !!!. I am in a dead end situation. Any help is very much appreciated !!!! Would it be possible to bypass all these “great” electronic security things below on my car and start the car directly ? (Key (transponder), Key Ring (receiver antenna), EWS, Ignition switch, the module, DMR-EWS Rolling Code, DME-Instrument Cluster talking to each other etc) Any advice is very much appreciated.

Very sumilar problem, key fob fell apart while driving, so key was in ignition but battery side with motherboard fell off, immediately got error, “battery is separated from key, do not turn off engine” but anyway now ignition is locked with it off, can’t get the key to work now, same thing no crank no start no lights from cluster, just no longer recognized

First wiggle (do not disconnect) both battery cables & small wires (tighten if loose), try to start. Next method : At battery location IN TRUNK attach a jump battery or cables with key off, then turn key on to see if dash lights turn on, if does, then turn all the way to start. If starts then probably car battery is defective that tested good sometimes. My exerence with a flakey battery.

On an E65 66 the crank sensor failure WILL allow the car to crank over but it won’t start. It’s a very easy swap out. The E65 electrics are very different to this example. Probably a great video for a different model.

Hey I have a 2010 BMW 318i and the car was driving ok and starts ok, however I drove it about two Sundays ago and parked. The following morning I woke up to start it and warn the engine before I drove out, I got no crank no start but a symbol of a car sitting on a lift of some sort. The car opens and close (even tho it takes some time to sometimes) but just won’t start I changed the battery in the key fob but still nothing. I’m advised to reprogram the key but I’m iffy. Can you help Note: it shut off on me twice before while’s I was driving about 5mph but I started it back up by putting it in neutral.

I replaced a battery and jumped on NCIS expert to change the capacity, but I keep getting a problem, it tells me the VIN failed. Like the software can't access the VIN number. Do you know why that is? The car still won't crank or start.

I'm having A issue with my 650i where the car will crank but it will not run. It's not throwing any codes on the reader but on the dash it's saying that tpm sensor is bad but also saying the passenger seat belt is malfunctioning which could be affecting the airbag. But that's the only indicators it's giving. What could cause it to crank and not run.? It's a 2006

Hey I have a 2005 e90 330i bmw, sometimes after I have reached my destination and I'm about to turn off I would press the start button once and everything would blank out and in 3-5 seconds reboot. I can now press it again and it will turn off.

I also had the no start problem and I did all of the above jump start options lucky I haven't had anything fried, that I have noticed. But it was a matter of a cable being slack in that little box under the hood. The cable leads to the starter and it was slack. After I tightened it back it started and I never had that issue. I own a 2008 BMW 535xi, and last winter my car started having trouble turning over, and the clock and trip computer would reset, but it would turn over, now, after 8 months it’s back, but now my nav screen and Sirius xm will shut down and quickly cycle back on seemingly every 5 minutes or so. I found if I eject the Nav DVD the screen and Sirius will stop cycling. I bit the bullet and replaced the IBS Sensor and Adapter. First thing I did was drive it about 30 miles, stopped for around 10 minutes. I plugged my “BlueDriver” into the diagnostics and ran a 2 minute scan, then erased the 1 fault showing, then unplugged the device and started the car. The car barely turned over, and the Caution light was still showing up on the cluster and Nav screen, but quickly went away, but every subsequent start would do the same thing. Also, when installing the Nav DVD it went right back to turning on and off cycling again. I don’t know if replacing the IBS cable sensor did anything except reveal that at least the original problems didn’t go away. I was at least hoping my battery wouldn’t rapidly drain anymore, but unless 30 miles and 3 minutes on the diagnostics with only the ignition on, not the engine is too small of a sampling size to gauge weather my IBS sensor has fixed the rapid discharging? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!🥴

Got a fault I wonder if you’ve come across before: My BMW E63 650i had been experiencing an intermittent electrical fault, whereby when left for a number of days/a week, driven for 20-30 mins, then locked for half an hour - it would then not start. The lights on the dash would come on, but no action when pushing the start button. The intermittent fault turned into a permanent one after this carried on for a number of weeks. It went into BMW, who had it for a month, finding a hidden tracker, which was removed but didn't fix the problem, and then replacing the instrument cluster. I was then told it was fixed. I picked it up, and was sat outside my home for just under a week after driving it home. I drove it for half an hour or so, before parking it, and locking it for 20 mins. Upon return to the vehicle, both electric windows were down (with the doors still locked). Upon attempting to start the car, the key went in and all the lights came on as usual. When pushing the start button there was nothing to indicate it was attempting to start, no turning over noise or anything of that nature. I locked the car and left it for another 20 mins, and this time it started. This was the same issue I was facing previously, which deteriorated to it not starting regardless of whether it was left for a bit after refusing to start. It is now back with BMW who have had it for 2 weeks, but are unable to replicate the fault. They are attempting to replicate it later today, after it has sat idle for 4 days.. but I am not hopeful. It has a new battery, and had a new alternator and battery cable added on it's first trip into BMW when the initial fault was apparently diagnosed by BMW. BMW dealership seem stumped..

having simular issues, swapping keys would usually get car to start. Did you ever fix this problem?

i have a e60 545i n62 2004 the car no crank no fuel pump. any idea? All fuses is ok.

I have a 2006 bmw 325i I haven’t started in 5 months and I checked the fluids were good so the car would crank for 2 second and car would stop cranking

I got an 06 325i and I use a jump-starter portable battery with a base amp of 1000, it jumps the car beautifully but the car dies out up to 2 times a day now. Especially when the battery is on but the car is off, usually around 30 minutes or so it slowly dies. Later this afternoon I'm going to check the fuse lines to make sure none are burnt and certain other fuses but I don't have a testing kit so I am going to have to eye it all. The audio didn't come through for the first time as well last night. The previous owner said the battery is pretty new. Got any ideas as to what it might be? Your channel is amazing by the way. You are very precise and straightforward, I appreciate you being the hero people need in all this.

HELLO we jumped this 2008 328i and now all the headlites, rearlights and dome lites are ON with car OFF..also car wont shift..is automatic..the guy also jumped the black relay under passenger glove box thought it was the starter relay but its a 4 prong black car access relay..so right after jumping car and this relay..all the lites stay on with car OFF and also it wont shift now..please help

My 06 bmw 750i starts fine in the morning but after warming up and a few trips around town it won’t start. I push the button and no crank or start. After about 30minutes of sitting it will start. Is my problem the IBS sensor?

Hi mate got the e90 was driving and car died so took battery home to recharge put it back on now ... put the key in the ignition then push the start button and everything goes off and car won't fire up any ideas

I've a question for ye. Might be a lot quicker because you might've seen it. So I'm looking for a pre 08 E60 520d, and I have found one but it won't start. I was talking to the seller and he said he drove it home(it was his daily) and then the next morning it wouldn't start. All the lights come in with ignition but she has no crank. She's a 2006 model. Any clue where I'd want to start?

Hi I have got BMW X5 E70 35 xDrive on 2009 Couple days ago I went to start it and it was nothing The central locking is working good but when I put the key in The ignition hole is no light coming on the dash I have disconnected the battery and charged it and put it back on,the same thing( fitted the new battery couple month ago) Watched all your videos and I couldn’t really find any problems a part of two fuses which I’ve changed Can you help please Thank you Regards

I manually put the car in neutral with a screwdriver so i could move it its a 238i 2006 could that have anything to do with a no crank no start
