This also applies to any 5 speed E39. You can get a short shifter from eBay, the bottom hole will need drilling out a little bit. This is incase you wanted a threaded gear knob :)

Excellent video, very clear and informative. I've just used it to swap out a horrific short shifter, back to standard with all new linkages. Cheers!

Some say that only 545i lever is short and some say that every e60 no matter what the engine is, has the same gear lever. How is it really? I've found a few of them for sale but all of them come from 2.0d or 2.0i.

Hi. I purchased the jacks a few years ago and had them custom made ("Off the shelf" ones were available) to take the extra weight of the E39 as opposed to the lighter weight of smaller cars they were originally designed for.

Will this fit an 320 d estate

Principle is the same, but you’ll have to do your own research as there are different length shift levers as standard on various chassis across the range.

Is it supposed to make that noise when you change gears ?
