How can i remove the key cylinder without having the original keys ? I recently bought the part from your site and can't find any video of removing the key cylinder without using the orig keys
Looks very easy with keys. Taken an handle for my e36 from a junkyard, keys are unavaible, was a real pain to remove the cylinder

Good to hear.
great video thank you for the help
It is possible to get it out without a key. I lubricated it first with a bunch of wd40 and then used a lock picking set, the wafer pick (2sided) primarily, and it still took a long time. Occasionally when it got stuck I would also manually push in the pin from the entry hole underneath with a small screw driver. Took me atleast hour of fiddling. Keep pressure on it outward, while your messing with the pins so it will pop out when it’s in the right spot.
Really informative 👍👍👍
I was able to get the old key cylinder out of my new door handle with a tiny screwdriver. The trick is to work one pin out at a time. Once you get each pin, it'll slide out a bit. Keep constant pressure on the rear. Pull each pin out once it clears the housing to make more room for the screwdriver.

I wish I would have read your comment. I too got the cylinder out without a key. However, I did it by drilling, grinding, and picking at the tumblers until they fell out. It took about an hour and a half.

where can I buy a set of 2 keys with a full cylinder set?
I wish I would have known this before I threw my old assembly out. It sucks that I can't double lock the car now or roll up the windows with my new assembly. And my lights wont turn on when I lift the handle anymore. All in all sad☹️
Hey there great video very informative and I happen to work on an E36 coupe currently as for I am searching for information on the electrical components. Question is what is that thing that runs 2 wyres to it.. Red n white stripe the other red and green if not mistaken.. Thank you

Hi! Excellent video!! I have a question: this simple black key has transponder/chip inside to start the car/motor? My car is a BMW 1994 325ia 4 doors (Germany version). Sorry, my english is bad! Thanks!

Don't think 94 models had the security chip.
Hello Bimmermerchant could you do a video on how to remove the master key cylinder from a 740i? It seems to be a lot more trickier than an e36. Thanks.

Daniel Pais We don't get alot of 740 models but will be sure to do a DIY on how to remove master cylinder just for you.
Good video, but the number 22 on the wafer you pulled out of the cylinder, is actually the cut of the key. (in this case it was 2 front with 2 rear).. you'll notice that, if you pull one out at a time. In addition, once you put the key in the cylinder, you can push the cylinder out of the housing from the rear once the retaining pin is removed. All around good video though, it was very informative.

The Cylinder of our E36 316i just rotates without any resistance if you try to open it with the key. You can turn it around as often as you like nothing happens. For quite some time we are using the passengerside door to unlock the car, I would like to change it but I really don't know what the problem is. Do we have to replace the handle too or is it a problem with the cylinder itself?

i hope you fixed your issue by now...But it sounds like the pin on the back side fell off..
Great video thanks. I am locked out of my e36, key turns in the barrel and nothing happens, don't know how I'm gonna get it open, any suggestions?

@@bimmermerchant Yes I did.. at a cost of £114. I sourced a new (used) door lock, took the old one out and now I'm struggling with fitting the new one. No videos on youtube have got the same door as mine, mine has mostly metal, with only little holes for access compared to the others, mine is a 316i compact (uk market) 1999, they've made it impossible to fit.
just want to let you guys know those numbers on those little pins in the key or not in order those are a key cut number

Is it possible to swap the cylinders between the driver's and passenger door? Also thinking in that case the key now might needs to be rotate otherwise direction to lock / unlock the door. Am I right? Has anyone tried it? And a final silly question: i've got only one car's (original bmw) key for everything. Do I need a "special key" to try or im fine with the one which i daily use to unlock the car and start the engine???

Arturas We inserted key from another e36 model as far as it would go and were successful with pulling cylinder out. Let us know if there is another way.

bimmermerchant So if you don`t have original key: by pushing from backside cylinder with one hands finger(forgot wich 1 used) and holdin at same time handle(can try to support that back side to smth), insert small flat screwdriver and awl where key must go in( used 2 flat screwdrivers and awl) and wigle at the same try rotate cylinder and move up and down those screw drivers. The point is to somehow suppress those pins, so they comes out that groove, try first suppres the closiest pins(dont need to depres them all the same time), eventualy u will see cylinder coming out. 1 small screwdriver and awl worked best for me, becouse u can try rotate and pull out with flat and with awl to depress pins, so they come out that grooves.I hope it helped, if some one succes say it. Soon maybe ill make vid.
