BMW e30 m52 turbo winter maintenance. Part 9 Drifting practise at wet track

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Part 9 of the m52 turbo winter maintenance project. After the dyno session I got the driveshaft problem fixed and it was time to hit the track for the first time with this car. Unfortunately it started raining so this was going to be some kind of drifting practice. And it turns out that I will need lot more practice than this.

    I love how you have a casual conversation about tires as you slide a 490whp turbo e30 around a wet track! That was awesome, great car control man you got the hang of it quick

    Thanks :D I got it in surprisingly good control, even though it's very hard to control when going sideways. The wet track was not problem because with those tires there is about same grip at wet as there is in dry with normal street tires. But there is something funny happening in the steering because it's very touchy. After some investigation it seems that there is ton of bump steer which has to be fixed.

    +pazi88 huh, my e28 is the same way even though it has a longer wheel base. it's very hard to balance while sideways. my suspension is fairly worn but the alignment is perfect yet it still bumpsteers bad. kinda stumps me.

    I may do a video about how I will fix that bump steer problem but I don't know how applicable it will be for e28 because it has totally different steering system.

    +pazi88 that would be great, bump steer may still be caused by the same factors though so it would definitely be useful to see how you solve it. id enjoy watching regardless haha

    Hey man! I will take this opportunity to thank you for the wonderful videos! I've got a few questions: What diff are you using? And why do you keep the E30 rack as opposed to a E46 one? Personal preference or?

  • @pazi88

    Hi! i'm using e34 325tds diff with 2.65 ratio. And I have added e28 528eta LSD to it. And i don't have the e30 rack. I have e36 steering rack but it's probably installed wrong which causes my steering problems.

    Hey Pazi love the vids. Very helpful. Just wondering what injectors your running in the brown e30? I'm building a cast iron m52 e30 up in the states and these videos are getting me excited. Keep it up!

    Hi! I'm running siemes deka 870 cc injectors. But those aren't as good as bosch ev14 injectors. I just happened to get those cheaply. So I would recommend the ev14 injectors. You can get them so that they are bolt on to replace original injectors.

    +pazi88 the 1000cc? I'm looking to push around 500whp on e85 but still be able to run 91 octane on flex fuel. 1000s seem a little big?

  • @pazi88

    @pazi88

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes those are bit too big if you have strict emission tests in your state. You may have problems getting the emissions to good level with 1000cc injectors. But there shouldn't be problems with the idle quality so if you are not worried about the emission test, then those will be ok. The 650cc should be fine for 500hp using e85.

    Sasha Shlychkov It was wrong installation location of the e36 steering rack. I did fix that in this later video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rIOCsZOclpCtqKg.html Now when that's fixed the car is heaps better to drive.

    hello pazi what do you mean by reverse the center support bearing and how can i tell which face directed to the front can you take picture of it? Thank you

  • @pazi88

    I have e36 driveshaft that has u-joint behind the support bearing. And in e30 the u-joint is front of the support bearing. And I installed the support bearing according to the u-joint. Which caused it to be wrong way.

    I already have e36 steering rack and it's fast enough. But for some reason my steering is VERY touchy. I have noticed at least one problem with the steering. It has ton of bump steer. The front tires turn in noticeably when I apply weight to the front end. So first thing is to fix the bump steer problem and lets see if that helps.

    I have an e36 compact and made the switch to a Z3 rack. It takes less turns of the wheel to catch a drift and less turning speed. It might be a toe setting issue. Are you running 0 toe?

    hey man, you did such a nice built, safe and got some good power with a low cost, i have a question for you if you don't mind, what is the best swap for an E30 daily driver and some drifts once a while but not drift or race car, i'm thinking about stock M60 but it needs a lot of fabrications to the engine bay and then s52 but the s52 in america is 240hp and not any close to the European S52 you guys have or m50 turbo? but here its so hot so i was thinking to pause the turbo m50 and put either s52 or m60. so what do you think which one is better and which one is easier to swap and reliable. thanks

  • @pazi88

    @pazi88

    7 жыл бұрын

    For daily the s52 is very good. The 240hp is still plenty of power for e30. And because the s52 is so close to the m52 it's almost bulletproof as stock. Which is very good for daily. The euro s50 is not as nearly as reliable as the us s52. And as you said the m60 needs lot more work to get that working.

    As someone else pointed out both hand on the wheel as long as you're not shifting or yanking the E ^^ Edit: You should let the wheel work moe for you to! When the rear kicks out let the wheel rotate by it selt until you want the car to stop rotating out in angle snap the wheel quick but gently to the opposite lock side and just hold it in there!

  • @pazi88

    @pazi88

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I know how you should let the wheel rotate, but in this car I can't do it. Every time I try to kick the rear to other side it feels like the car hits a wall and stops rotating. I have to turn the wheel to make the car change the side. Also the steering is very touchy so I just can't hold the wheel and let the car go. I have to steer the car all the time to make it go sideways. There is something seriously wrong with the steering and I have to fix that before hitting the track again. Surprise surprise if you slap all the parts from different cars, it doesn't work on the first time :D There is at least ton of bump steer that I need to get rid of. But there may be something else also, because I don't think that it will cause all my problems.

    doctorstruts Alignment is made properly. There was little bit of under steering when this video was done but that has been fixed with more camber in front. The stock e30 is really nice to drive sideways but I have made this lot worse mixing and matching all the parts :D
