BMW Concept R18 Explained
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The heart of the BMW Motorrad Concept R18 is the large, newly designed, two-cylinder 1800 cc boxer engine. Its outward appearance is consciously reminiscent of the flat twin engines that BMW Motorrad used to build up until the end of the 1960s - but with a considerably bigger displacement and modern air/oil cooling. The big prototype boxer has been designed down to the last detail: the engine block and transmission are made of glass bead-blasted aluminium, providing an ideal stage on which to present the hand-polished aluminium components as well as the belt guard and valve covers. The engine badge bears the name of the concept bike and emphasises the overall quality. In addition, Solex dual carburettors - similar to those in the BMW 2002 - hark back to the brand’s construction history and add the final touch to the bike’s visual authenticity.
Another optical highlight is the exposed, chrome-plated universal shaft that connects the back wheel to the drive. There are no further covers anywhere on the motorcycle, which serves to keep its engineering clearly visible. Similarly, the electronics of the concept bike are reduced to no more than starter and lights, underlining its purist design.
The BMW Motorrad Concept R18 is the third in-house interpretation of the large-capacity boxer engine to come from BMW Motorrad. Last December the model created by the Japanese customisers, CUSTOM WORKS ZON was presented at the Yokohama Hot Rod Show, on the basis of this new prototype engine. The ‘Departed’ won the biggest accolade of the event, the ’Best of Show Motorcycle’ award, thrilling motorcycle fans with its classic forms, modern production techniques and all manner of manual art and craft in the details. The next round was the interpretation by Revival Cycles.

No doubt. If you want looks, speed, & style. There it is . Someone said It will cost a lot. True. This BMW IS NOT CHEAP. NEITHER IS A HARLEY DAVIDSON.
Delicious.........
They need to make this bike with the inline 6 cylinder. For sure that would be a winner!

Hey hey wooh up cowboy ....we have to leave something left for the aftermarket people to keep a cash flow or it's tits up for everyone ! As far as EFI goes we Yanks have a company that makes FITECH EFI four barrel throttle bodies for retro turn key 60's hot rods and can easily build two down draft single throat plug and play self tuning efi's on stacks , one for each jug topped with open velocity stacks that would be a show stopper at the Daytona rat's hole bike show ..and give it a set of exhaust stacks eazyrider style all the way back sticking up above the rear finder ..this bike is a long time wanted blank canvas bare bones chopped beamer bobber ! Ride it as is or load it down with dozens of aftermarket bling and go fast goodies the customizers aftermarket will have a hay day with !
I can see this 1.8 motor going into airplanes real soon. Most likely with a Turbo on it. I would like to know the weight of the motor with no transmission...
people looking and gathering around same as chevy c8 launch meaning smash hit
The Power of Simplicity! --YES-- Hopefully, the street legal version will not castrate the wildness.
the only thing I would do as forwards I would remove I would change the footpegs and on the two heads placed horizontal I would integrate the two footpegs (foot stations) who knows it would not be a strange thing indeed BMW Concept 18 Cool
My lady wasn't a fan. Don't matter have to have one. Hope it's around or under 25k
Woo kreen
The time is right... Offener auspuff sonst garnix..
I wonder about this wonder! No electronic. Points or magneto...
It's okay, but still falls short of the R1200C in terms of style. I wish BMW puts the Bind bike back into production

What the hell is a "bind bike" this beamer bobber is about as timeless as anything that has ever been built as in this video featuring The Best of the best beamers that ever rolled into history that yes all yanky bikers like me know all about ...along with beamers own retro cafe racers of today that have already established their place in the collection of Moto porn in your face ...hats off with cheers to the BMW people for joining the club !
Beautiful, but the engine is too wide !, it is necessary to reduce the length Cylinders!, think of the reassembly of lines of cars!
Beautiful looking ride, but that leg position, not for me.

@@2thewilderness dude all motorcycles are purpose built for a specific target just like guns . You don't take a Saturday night special to hunt elephants and you don't use a Barrett 50 Cal to a pistol range as after an exploding round you have no more target

Chance1957 Well, the air cooled twins are clean and simple! Of my 10 motorcycles, 4 were BMW air cooled boxer twins, all great bikes. A ‘67 R60, ‘73 R75, ‘76 R75, and ‘81 R100RS.
My wife likes to ride with me. What about longer seat, sissy bar and foot pegs for passenger.
¡¡¡¡ NO PUEEEEEES. . . . EN CASTELLANO . . . !!!!!!
production model is way far from this beauty
Meh.
BMW actually went ahead and built this monstrosity. It will never make money in a million years. What a massive fail by BMW on an epic scale
Ha ha. As if German regulators would ever allow anything like this bike on their roads. BMW forgot the 1ft square numberplate. Where will that fit in the design?Concepts are nice but this thing will go straight into their museum.Thats the trouble when stuffy old BMW lets their 60yo designers build a dream bike. Same as HD. End up building caricatures of classics.Carburettors on a 21st century bike. What a joke. Germans have the most stringent Eco rules in the world. The concept has to built like this. When its fully loaded with that car engine it will look and weigh as much as a VW beetle and where are they gonna put all the electronic safety junk?BMW better get with the program and stick to their techno loaded behemoths, almost unrecognizable as motorbikes. Maybe develop a battery chopper for the over 70s who dream of their younger days riding mopeds.Just remember they had a go at choppers a few years ago, that cream colored telelever horror in cream. Dont see them at the cruises much , hey? The cycle: tricycle, moped , elephantine cruiser, BMW "Concept", wheelchair. Hearse.
Not good in traffic, dem ears stick out just a bit too far.
I ride bikes since 25 years ago. Thats it im done. BMW is history. Pushing out only cookie cutter hipster garbage, 1200GS for the elderly posers and 300cc bikes made in India. I am going to save and buy electric. Probably a Zero. You can have your pastiches and empty "brands" which used to be great but lost the plot altogether.
