BMW CE 02 (2024) REVIEW | Electric commuter

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

BMW calls the CE 02 an ‘eParkourer’ and leans heavily on skateboarding imagary but there’s no denying that the decision to create a concept-bike-for-the-showroom is a more appealing approach than just another cookie-cutter electric scooter. When it comes to appealing to young, urban riders it’s an approach that might just pay off - provided there are enough customers out there who are prepared to stump up the steep £7,450 cost of entry.
Adam 'Chad' Child heads to Lisbon on our behalf to spend the day on the new #bmw #scooter for our #review

    In London you can only travel at 20 mph, get an electric pedal bike a decent one for £2500 with removal battery for charging in your apartment and you still save the £150/month Z1 to Z2 Oyster card. It’s a toy for the well off!

    Chad I feel like you get it. An electric motorcycle I don’t want for all the reasons you said but this I would love to have in the garage. It looks great, feels quality, has heaps of character and would be so fun bombing round a city or neighbourhood again for all the reasons you mentioned. I think it will sell really well too. Also to all those grisly comments, it’s not a motorcycle so don’t compare it to one. It’s not a Honda cb500x but around the city it looks 1000x better and would be more fun. Why so miserable and cynical? You don’t have to buy it.

    Agree with other comments about wheels and removable battery, but also, as a commute/errends bike it needs luggage carrying capacity, a rack or something. Much as I like the idea of an electric town bike I'd still ride a Honda Cub in preference to this.

    Actually can see it fitting in perfectly as you described. But. It's so expensive. If I'm spending 8.5g on a commuter I'm probably spending 6.6g on a cb500x and riding to Lisbon with the spare 2g. Lisbon is a great city. Like it a lot but too much money. And as some others have said, how do I lock it up? But yes, that is a cool bike. Ride safe 👍

  • @TheCdubbleyoo
    @TheCdubbleyoo5 ай бұрын

    If there isn't some locking point that wasn't mentioned, couldn't one lock through the void under the front of the seat? As a former urban bicycle rider, locking through the wheel is not the best security. If they want it bad enough, they'll just take everything but the wheel, no?

    The only thing that is really off putting is the price this bike is around 8500€ for the base MC version that has 6kw here in Sweden as we are given 3 versions a 3.7kW(Moped) 6kW(Light MC) and 11kW(MC) which means you almost get two KTM or two Kawasaki or two Suzuki or two Aprilia 125cc bike of the same price as the 11kW fully equipped version are😅

    I could see this being great if you work less then 5 mile to and from work. Personally I have the chance to toy with one. It’s an adrenaline rush. It’s capable of whip lash. Price is a bit steep tho $6,000 should be a solid price point tho. Light enough to load in a pickup truck and take with you on vacation for fun local rides. There is great potential for this and not having a heavy bike to load and unload. Personally I would buy one. I have bed ramps. Could load this solely by yourself. No need for another set of hands. It’s simple has a reverse to get in and out of truck beds alone lightweight. Maybe low range for most people but as a cruiser around town on vacations will save you money in gas. To me that’s a win. Would I leave it unattended probably not. 99% in the bed locked up but this is a first step and chance for a giant leap if priced right. For having a smaller light bike to take locally

    125 equivalent with 40lb/ft needs more power? Energy density I get, but power doesn't seem to be an issue with electrics. I maintain that the key to e-motorcycles of this "size" will be bike-sharing services.

    Aside from looks, it is hard to justify this against a 125cc. I’ve had both a Vespa Elettrica and a modern Vespa 125cc. The Vespa 125cc is around half the price of this BMW, has built in secure storage, and has averaged 150mpg over the 5000 miles I’ve had it. The emissions are non existent on an electric, but they’re also tiny on a 125cc - so there’s not much of a gain in that regard, and a 125cc is still massively more eco friendly than most cars. The range on this BMW is quoted at 95km, or 59 miles. 20-80% charging represents 60% or a range of 35 miles, and it takes 2.5 hours of “fast” charging to get that?

  • @903lew
    @903lew5 ай бұрын

    Ach, how I’d want Honda to just release a proper electrical super cub. 60 miles of actual range is enough, the form factor is almost made for EV batteries and I’m sure they’d get the price closer to what I’d like to pay. Would be great for the commute and save the miles on my ‘proper’ bike (the capacity of which I use five times a year).

    Theft in cities is rife and this is one such bike I can see being placed on the high risk list due to the styling/BMW badge and the fact it's expensive. I'm not sure how you'd chain it up to prevent theft due to the wheels. This bike unfortunately fits the "toy" of the rich than the average biker. An electric bike is far better value and you can bring it inside a building off the street completely out of sight of thieves.

Truth be told bikers rarely ever buy new anyway, those who do are usually late boomers or people with disposable income later in life, for the rest of us we choose bikes based on value for money.
