Excellent... KZread needs more quality training videos like this one. Thank you for your time spent creating this super informative video. Great idea teaching the basics.

I appreciate all the kind words.
He said simplified and really meant it. I feel like a qualified mechanic now 😂
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. You have helped me solve a “problem” with heating. When doing track days on small tracks (mainly karting tracks), the engine cuts power after 1 hot lap. I realise now that my mistake was to let it idle for extended periods before going on track, causing the intercooler to get too hot.

Very interesting!
Great video. Was looking for a tutorial for removing leaves for my m140, but now all about the engine
Many thanks, my 140 is ready for her maiden voyage (with me) tomorrow, I learnt a lot I wasnt aware of. WTF were BMW thinking when they decided 1 Series owners didnt need to concern themselves with coolant temp/oil pressure/& even a dipstick, madness. trip tomorrow to have AK-Motion fitted, a dipstick might be a bridge too far, unless someone else has a solution (old habits die hard) Thanks again Fella !!
Lovely video, very well explained. The ‘cap’ next to the oil filler cap that you said you didn’t know what it was is the PCV valve. Pcv valve control emissions, prevents crank case from developing oil sludge. It redirects crank case gases back into combustion chamber. Hope that helps

Thank you so much for the detailed look around a B58 inline 6!!
What a great video. Very informative, thanks for creating and uploading.
What an amazing video, really helped me understand my 240i a lot better
You nailed it 👏. Excellent video, finally someone is talking about abmw engine using a simple vocabulary, thanks for that. I hope at some point I can see something like this for the N20 that I own.
Thanks very much for taking the time for doing this video .very informative
Great walkthrough. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Very useful indeed. Thankyou!
Merci beaucoup pour ces informations !
This is an amazing video!!!!
Superb. Thank you sir.
Thank you very much this is very helpful I bought a 2017 bmw 340i b58 engine and don't know how to check engine oil. thanks again and god bless you

B58 is such a good engine.
Quality video.
perfect thank you!
The other cap is a diverter valve for the pcv system. It re-routes the crankcase gasses into the intake manifold (no boost) or into the intake box (under boost)

The engine cover does help get the engine to operating temp faster
thanks man

The cap next to your oil fill is the pcv mate 👍🏼

I have that same motor with my 2018 440I
Superb stuff! My crash v-bars are also blue. My car has one small heat exchanger on the right side.

Thanks Peter. Having a lower radiator on the RHS means your car has an additional petrol particulate filter (PPF), so its emissions are lower, with some sacrifice of exhaust noise in sport mode. I believe yours must therefore be manufactured July 2018 onwards. My car is a May 2018 model so it was one of the last pre-PPF produced.

@@NoBrainerTalk Correct. My car is June 2019, one of the last from its kind.
Thanks for sharing, I own the same car from new and spent hours on the lookout for better knowledge about this wonderful engine. It looks like the coolant needs to be topped up frequently on those performance engines, so went on and bought the official BMW coolant. However, it only needed to be topped up once in 1.6 year of ownership as I do not drive it much and rather sensibly. There are 2 coolant lids, apparently one is for the engine and one for the turbo but I read that they are linked up. Not sure if I should fill up both or only one of them. The most frustating aspect is that you cannot indeed check the oil with a stick and need to rely on the computer reading.

Hi Roda, I am making a dedicated video about coolant, to be published tomorrow or Friday. From what I can see the coolant tanks are not linked, they must be completely separate systems.

8:28 do you fill 50/50 coolant in 32. Intercooler Coolant expansion tank if it is low?
@NoBrainerTalk
2 жыл бұрын
The answer is yes, if the expansion tank is below the minimum then it is best to fill with the correct mix (50/50). However in some cases of relatively small quantity of coolant missing the dealer/service centre may recommend to top-up with just distilled water: There is some likelihood that it is the water element (not the anti-freeze) which has escaped/evaporated out of the cap for example, so topping up with distilled water may not affect the 50/50 balance. It depends on how low it is.
Is this car with right hand steering(UK)? Any engine bay difference with the left/right steering models?
@NoBrainerTalk
3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, yes this is a RHD car (like UK). The steering column should be the main difference, everything else mentioned in my video should be in the same location (common between LHD and RHD vehicles).
I love the simple explanation so it’s very understandable, Where is the crankshaft position sensor?
@NoBrainerTalk

Thank you! The sensor is on the side of the timing case cover, on the back of the engine.

I thought the B58 are using chain instead of belt? Please correct if i'm wrong. Thx
@NoBrainerTalk
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, the B58 uses a timing chain at the back (one-part timing chain for the B58TU and two-part timing chain for the 1st gen B58) and a serpentine belt for the accessories at the front.
Which oil do you use for B58?
@NoBrainerTalk
3 жыл бұрын
Hi, unless I'm mistaken, it's 0w-20 LL-14 FE+.
Is the air filter in the M340 in the same place ?
@NoBrainerTalk

Yes, all B58s have the air filter box in the same location.
Do you have any affiliations with bluespark?

I know what bluespark is. :)
Is it true that the B58 have two camshaft sensors?
@NoBrainerTalk

Hello, indeed there are two camshaft sensors, one for each intake and exhaust camshafts.
Not an oil cooler. Just another engine coolant.

Yes, to be honest my research indicated that it is the auxiliary radiator, part of the engine cooling system (auxiliary to the main engine radiator). But reading the forums, where there are different opinions, I became unsure. I think you are right anyway.

@@NoBrainerTalk In my m240i in this spot in front of left wheel, there is an coolant heat exchanger, so yup, he's right.
