BMW 750Li vs Cadillac CT6 | TestDrive Showdown

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We never thought we'd be comparing a Cadillac with BMW's Flagship 7 Series, but times have changed and we couldn't be more excited! The 2017 BMW 750Li xDrive takes on luxury head-on, but competition from the 2018 Cadillac CT6 3.0L Twin Turbo Platinum is coming out of left field. We see what makes these two full-size luxury sedans worth over $100,000, and what's different about the two.
Special thanks to BMW Sherbrooke and Groupe Park Avenue for helping make this episode of TestDrive Showdown possible. Find out more about them at: groupeparkavenue.com/en/bmw-s...
TestDrive Showdown episodes focus on two similar competitor vehicles to show what's different about each, and what makes them compete. Our episode on full-size luxury flagships is unique, as we've got two modern examples of sedans available in Canada. The 2018 Cadillac CT6 3.0L TT Platinum is fully loaded without any missing options. Our 2017 BMW 750Li xDrive is provided to us by BMW Sherbrooke and comes with a long list of options, bringing the MSRP to $134,700.00.
While these two cars are 1 model year different, and their MSRPs sit about $34,000 apart, we are testing the BMW based on the demo-list price of around $96,000 CAD, which makes it slightly more affordable than the Cadillac, and offers some unique features over it's American competitor. We also understand that a short wheelbase 7 Series would be more similar however the CT6 is slightly longer than the G11, but comes in a couple inches shy of the G12's longer dimensions.
No Showdown can be completely perfect, but we're excited to show the differences between these two seriously impressive full-size luxury sedans. We don't go fully in-depth with either vehicle, as that has been covered in each individual episode of TestDrive Spotlight, so we recommend watching those episodes before this Showdown in order to have a complete picture of each vehicle.

We thought so too until we started mistaking the front end of the new CTS and XTS for this car. Much like BMW though, everyone is going for shared designs throughout their model lineups. We do like the look of the Cadillac though, fewer of them exist which makes them a little more rare.

cadillac is junk. simple as that. for people to find it more attactive is mindbogling. inside it looks like cheap opel corsa with ipad attached on the seats. outside it looks like cheap mazda. probably the quality is the same as it looks. cheap and bad. for someone to call cadillac a luxury car ... what a joke. american workforce is expensive, that's why this car is so expensive. if it was made in europe it would go into middle class pricing at 25000€. also forgot to mention, you won't see cadillac designers measure sound levels when pressing buttons or opening the doors or whatever is moved in the cabin. that's just the touch detail you americans don't get into.

That's definitely true. We wanted to include both prices, since our Showdown episode on the BMW X3 and Mazda CX-5 didn't take new cars for both comparisons, and we didn't do that here either. But you're right, the BMW is significantly more when new.

BMWs are remarkable vehicles. The only thing I fancy in the Cadillac is the 32 Bose speakers and the Android Auto. Americans are always proud of their product..... It's expected just look at Apple. But you must be nuts to say the 2017 BMW is boring. That thing is a master piece and so is the S class. Honestly, the Cadillac should not be compared to this 7 series, it's a mismatch. I was at Hyundai Queens last week and I was handed a leaflet of the G90, they had the balls to compare the G90 to the S Class and 7 series.

The CT6 has all-wheel drive, without the transverse engine. Different modes allocate more power to the front. In performance mode most of the power is from the rear, I believe 80%. Also, rear wheels are steerable on the CT6, and they turn different ways depending upon your speed. The magnetic ride is very smooth. The Omega platform is the latest in GM design, and allows for a light vehicle despite the size, but the magnetic ride control gives it a solid feel. These are important points that I thought you might bring up. Perhaps the BMW has similar features? I just bought a low mileage used 2017 Platinum twin turbo CT-6, and I am very pleased with it. Years ago I had a CTS-V that I also loved, but this feels like a much bigger car still with lots of sport to go along with it. After I drive it a while I may move up the the twin turbo V-8 in a year or two, but the V-6 has plenty of go. Love the Caddy, but that's not to say that the BMW isn't also really nice.

Past Cadillacs were terrible and made big mistakes which consumers made Cadillac pay for by not going back into the dealerships to check out what they have new! BMWs depreciate more than anyone else! The cost of repairing a BMW is far higher than just about anyone else on the market! If you take reliability and content the Cadillac ct-6 is a superior car! Perpetual Radio Networks it’s nothing extravagant, you’re right. But I feel like it fits the whole understated tone of the CT6. The car has a lot more than what it lets on by its appearance, and the lighting just emphasizes that fact. It’s classy, and not overbearing. Would I prefer the 64 colors of the 2018 E class, or even the 3 colors of my previous 17 c coupe? Hell yeah! But do I feel like I missing out? Not really. Had they gone with a different color, my opinion might be a bit different.

Obviously you know absolutely NOTHING about cars. Cadillac has been at the BOTTEM of the JD Power reliability scale for years. BMWs are, for the most part, extremely reliable, but very, very, very expensive to maintain, giving them a bad reputation when someone who can't afford a BMW bought a used one with 100k Miles and had 5 different parts go and couldn't pay for it. BMW service is OUTSTANDING, much better then Audi. I know from experience, my dad has had outstanding service on his BMW ever since he bought it. If you go online you can hear "horrific stories" about any brand's service.

Kudos to Cadillac for this latest CT6 but hopefully with their new V8 twin turbo(550hp)! version they will beef up their suspension with the wonderfully magnetic ride control setup & really make the adjustability settings class leading. Making this cruiser a surefooted ride handling beast. More effort in the cabin design also would be a welcoming addition. More modern aesthetics would put you a lot closer in terms of sophistication & class.

I'd try to aim for one of the 2019-2020 models as they updated the styling before killing it off.

As much as I love and aspire to own a new Cadillac, especially one as nice as that test CT6, but in TRI Tone Pearl White with the lighter interior, over and BMW, I have to honestly say at 96k, that BMW is a screaming deal! But sadly I’m never gonna be close to that kind of money for a car or Truck. But a nice V6 powered ATS? AWD? For less than half the price of the BMW special? Of yea! That’s exactly what I’m looking at, in price point, but I’m also looking at full size trucks and the Dodge Charger that can be had for around 40 k with 485 hp! I believe it’s all coming down to what I can find at what deal when I’m ready.

There's no doubt that the 7 Series is a steal at that price, but it's also significantly out of our budget too. There's a lot of great cars out there that provide near-premium experiences for significantly less. I think we're going to see a shift in the marketplace towards a better experience, now that high-end features usually exclusive to cars like the S-Class and 7 Series are trickling down to consumer vehicles.

That's still very expensive for those cars! I can't believe it. It's interesting that only the long wheelbase version is offered, they do the same in North America with the V12 models, only offering the long versions.

I'm always glad when people mention ambient lighting, sometimes we feel that we spend more time talking about it than we should! But it's true, the Cadillac has almost nothing and I think that's what a lot of buyers want to see now.

@@97336cf Unfortunately I don't know what broke on it, but after we arrived at our destination the SCC system became inoperable and wouldn't work for the return trip. We also had the rear parking sensors fail on the car, and problems with the 360º camera. We had booked the 2019 CT6 a few months ago and that brand-new vehicle was taken off the fleet by GM due to a SCC recall that had to be performed in Toronto.

They definitely have a lot of work to do, especially now that Johan de Nysschen has been booted out of Cadillac, they really need to figure out where they want to take the brand. Ford's decision yesterday to end all sedan production for the US market might also be a bad sign for Cadillac.

I like your videos but I was disappointed that you did not notice the huge different in the way transmission acts between the 2 cars, I tried a lot of the Cadillac's and other American cars and they seem like just cant figure out how to make the gear changes need to be timed when you need it.

We didn't have that experience with the CT6, but we also didn't drive the 750Li for long enough to really get a proper feel for the transmission. The M760Li we have right now certainly shifts smoothly, but there's no comparison with that car.

Any car can have a discount, it’s up to your negotiation and the dealership you go to. This Cadillac is a new model, so we can only compare it at full MSRP like any other review we do, but since the BMW is a year older we wanted to cover all our bases.
