Just mapped my 535d to 360hp and nearly 500lb-ft. It is seriously quick! The other great thing is how useable the power is in typical UK driving. You don't need to rev it hard and make a big noise, just effortless power from all over the rev range. I love it. Edit: you said the power band is short, which is true and peaks around 2500rpm. After being mapped it is so much better and on the power band from 2000 to 4500rpm. Awesome

Thats some good numbers, just goes to show what these cars are capable of. You still get decent MPG alongside the power too so its the best of both worlds. With the power band expanded these would be the perfect car if you are not too fussed about the noise. Great cars! Enjoy!

I have a 530d with all the specs; inc soft closing doors, tv - which BMW have stopped doing in 5 series… electric tow bar. Head up display is a must. Almost £65k new. Great for long journeys. I love it

That is a very good spec. The 5 series is actually quite a difficult car to beat for a all rounder. £65k new, wow 👌

On diesel N57 powerband is not short, it's infinite. you got 650nm from 1800 rpm to 4000

nice review, attention to details as most , you could add some info about mechanical and things that don't live for long time in that car, overall I guess many people would like it

I had one same colour and was so nice to drive , very quick but even though I serviced the gearbox there was a problem with it for some reason, and remember racing an m5 and it left me standing , so saving for an r35 gtr now

Awesome cars but they can be a nightmare when an issue arises, which is quite rare to be fair. M5 are Awesome but the R35 GTR is on another level! We have both the M5 and GTR (800bhp) on the channel so take a look 👍

Still can't beat the sound of a petrol 535i or even the thrill of a higher revving petrol engine however for a diesel a great little car

The petrol versions will always be the choice of car for a true petrol head but if economy is required then these are a great substitute, if not the best 👍

Fantastic review mate! agree with everything, fantastic all rounder. Fitted mine with a upgraded MTC inter cooler and had the engine and gearbox remapped by Velocity tuning in Colchester. Big gains. 387BHP AND 737nm of torque. One thing this car does need is a LSD. Hopefully will get a conversion done in the near future. Also wanna get over the 400 bhp as well, to be honest doesn’t need it, but to be honest it’ll be rude not to.

yes i think 535d is great car! but the chain issue...... However 520d is fuel economy is great! but the lack of power.

The 520d does lack some power but a remap sorts that. I think the pre 2015 2.0l had chain issues 🤔
