I have an F10 520d 190HP and I totally agree with you. The engine is definetily enough, it pulls really good until 210 kmh for only 190hp.

(Almost) same here I have the g30 530d m sport it’s a really good car but with the x drive the car just feels a lot better

@@lukecreese6699 must be nice with 30d engine. I’ve driven f10 520xd several times and it pulls quite nice up to 200-210 km. Didnt try more. Its ideal power for daily driving. I’ve also driven 330d e90 with 245hp and thats +1 lvl. The amount of power it have even after 200 km/h is.. well i didnt expect it

My dad used to drive a brand new rolls Royce in the 70s but now we don’t need expensive cars for luxury. This BMW is a good example. Im also getting the 5 series as my first car and 190HP is more than enough for normal driving.

I collected my 520d G30 M5 pack last saturday. Sophisto grey. I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised by it. It's not a race car of course, but it really is more than enough for normal use. It has large tires (275mm rear, 255 front), and it really does a good job. I'm not disappointed at all. I must say that I don't really feel a difference between comfort and sport in terms of suspension. But I really like the car a lot. I could drive it continuously.. No regrets so far. Of course, a 530d would be better in terms of performance, but I'm not willing to pay 10.000 EUR more. And taxes are higher too. And I drive +/- 40.000 kms a year, so…. fuel economy is important.

Mario I also had a 520d G30 for a few days with the M pack, carbon black color, black leather interior with also some nice options like leather dashboard. It had the standard speakers which were just not good... although speakers are very important for me. I had it most of the time in sport mode because then it will stay in a higher gear because low in the rpm’s it doesn’t have very much power. When I drive in my X5 xdrive30d I always let it in comfort mode as that engine always has enough power and torque

@@gieltimmermans I also mostly use Sport mode because it reacts quicker and smoother. And I also had a performance tuning from 190bhp to 225 bhp which is a big difference. 190bhp is not enough. When I do long distances on the highway I keep it in comfort. I don't have any complaints about the sound system at all. The subwoofer is perfect, no distortions at high volume.

Mario Yes in the X5 I have the upgraded Hifi Professional system which is very very good but that 5 series had the standard speakers which where not so good, or maybe it was because I’m used to the Hifi Professional system

can cruise control use brakes when you go very stepe downhill and gear cant maintain the speed itself?

Would have liked to see how does it behave while overtaking a truck on a regular road. That makes a difference as opposed to the 6 cylinder.

Ik heb sinds een maand een 520d 190pk en ik vond het niet echt een geslaagde combinatie versnellingsbak/vermogen in de comfortstand. De wagen reageerde traag op het gaspedaal en leek steeds in te hoge versnelling te rijden wat nogal een irritant gebrom gaf. Gevolg gaspedaal dieper indrukken zodat er een versnelling te laag werd ingeschakeld wat nog rumoeriger was. Als oplossing de wagen in sportstand zetten gaf ook niet echt een goed resultaat want de respons op het gaspedaal was nu goed maar de auto bleef steeds in lagere versnelling rijden met hoger verbruik en meer rumoer tot gevolg. Sinds deze week de oplossing gevonden: sportstand aanpassen: motor/gaspedaal op sport en versnellingsbak op comfort in sportstand. Vlotte respons op gaspedaal en blijft in hogere versnelling zitten: Heerlijk gebruik maken van het riante koppel en zeer Comfortabel en geruisloos rijden🤗🤗🤗

What was the fuel consumption in this test?

Just got a 520d xDrive, upgraded from a 320d rwd. Kinda miss the rwd feeling a bit and the HiFi speakers in the 520 do not come close to the HK speakers I had in the 320. BUT still love the 520, really good! And will be even better when I remap it to 230 hp from 190.

Wow I am surprised about your statement, I am now considering a BMW 5er touring, but i want xDrive, the 530d is 530d and I felt wrong about 520d... I was thinking that this engine should be there (not too powerful). But I think the point of view you said is pretty nice. Thank you for it! IF i pick up the 520d, I will just have problem with my friends, that are BMW fans (not fanboys :D). And they say that 20d does not belong there :D Thanks once again

Hey guys, what would be your personal preference - the G31 520d vs. the 2019 Audi A6 (C8) Avant 40tdi?

It is a great engine. I drive a new 120d xdrive and it is seriously fast until 200kph. For higher speeds the 6 cilinder engines are really better buys.

Ronnie In my opinion the 2.0 l engine sucks for bmw 5 but for bmw 1 is perfect engine.

Not fast? I have a hyundai sonata nf crdi 143hp, 1600kg and i feel i race when i pull the accelerator (even i can't reach more than 210km/h)...i can't imagine with 190hp...

What you're saying is true but once you try the 530d or higher you'll understand why. This engine doesn't give this car justice. I have a 2013 f10 535d and the 6 cylinders feels much more effortless and the smoothness is incomparable to the the 4 cylinder. Even the sound, the 6cyl has the deep v8-like scream at top half rev range. I get what you mean there nothing wrong with the 4 cylinder but once you taste the 6 cylinder if you can afford it you won't ever choose the 20d.

@@gieltimmermans I know that now :) After searchinh for one to get I notice that, it's really hard find professional navigation inside used G series (here in Slovenia)... Anyway I end with 525D from 2015, price difference just not worth for me. It's 2 years older, but buying F11 instead G31 save me around $20k

Igor Mitrovic Wow that’s a coincidence as I am planning to do the same as you! It’s because I prefer the looks of F11 + the price difference is also nice offcourse. Here in Germany and Belgium, most of them have the bigger screen. I am getting the 520D variant though

How does this 520d 4 cylinder (190 BHP/400 Nm torque) compare with the 530i which is a 4 cylinder but with much more power (252 BHP/350 Nm torque?) There was an interesting review in Australia between the 530i (4 cylinder) and the 530d (6 cylinder). The reviewer actually picked the 530i that felt more nimble and was more fun to drive! Can you compare the 520d (this car) and the 530i back-to-back. That will be really interesting - a battle of the 4's!

Thanks for the review . I would known if this diesel engine is shaking or make vibration when you are stoped by a red light motor on or in city traffic. Ok when you drive on road but in city ?

Chess Intuition I haven’t driven the 525d engine but when I drove the 520d I nearly always kept it in sport mode because low in the rpm’s there isn’t much power. It’s because it’s a 4 cylinder engine afterall, they don’r have much power and torque low in the rpm’s. With the 530d engine that problem is solved, they have the power always, I never put that one in sport mode. I have the xdrive30d engine in my X5 and even for such a heavy car it’s more than enough. Aslong as you put the 520d/525d in sport mode you also always have more than enough power as it keeps itself in a higher gear

I wish I could afford BMW 520i.. but it costs 50,120 euro ( base model) and if you want,you can add a lot of options which costs a lot of money.. It would be cool to have helping driver apps and luxury package but at what price.. 13,000 euros. +/-. well I did something and I've managed to fit into 9,450 euros. in over all = 59,570 euros for a car. Why it has to be so expensive?

Just look around a bit and you can find interesting offers. I just bought this 2017 model, a 520d WITH M Pack for 42.000 EUR. And it was a showroom model so it even has less than 10.000 kms.
