Damn this video was funny! great content man. I have the E89 Z4 35is, going to attempt this in the next day or two. I did the turbos back in 2018 and that was a monster of a job, had to drop the subframe etc, I was hoping I didn't have to do that with the water pump and this video shows exactly that. But damn this video was really funny to watch lol. 🤣
If you're gonna get steel bolts. Get mild with a touch of antiseize. Don't use stainless, can rip the threads out of the block. May not, may be fine. But better safe than sorry. N54 gang
The torx bolts holding the fan are T25's
Original Pierburg water pump only. Unless you like doing this job again and again.

Replaced this pump 4x before just buying the full metal gates one (lifetime warranty) and no issues to this date. Would have bought the pierburg one if I would have known as it’s much cheaper.
Can you list the parts and/or provide links on where to get them? I'd wanna go all aluminum as well + the hoses
I’ve been looking for a diy for an xDrive 335. Thank you

Glad I could help man! Great cars! Not fun to work on all the time though
What is with these waterpumps? What a headache
I’m nervous for mine, when the time comes I’m thinking of grabbing a pierberg full metal pump. How has this one been working so far?

Lol 😂 this one has been good, got it off rockauto.com (“gates” brand & lifetime warranty)

The main issue really isn't the body/housing of the pump. FCP Euro has good info on how it's actually the internal electronics that get fried from internal leaking. It being plastic or metal isn't the main cause of failure on N series water pumps although I'm sure there are cases of the body cracking. It's the internal electronics

I've only had luck with the Pierburg water pumps, honestly. FCP Euro or bust

The pumps that broke 3x in a row were OEM continental water pumps. This is a common issue that most N54 owners have to deal with every year.

N54 is one of the worst BMW's you can buy. Late production N55 is much better. Or sacrifice power and get an N52

N55 is lame compared to N54. N54 stock internals good for 650. N55 is only good for 400.
