Hi there, What about the famous BMW 50/50 weight distribution? Still there? I am asking because of the additional 300 kg. Affecting anyhow ? I doubt what to choose! 318d vs 330e Thank you for any feedback

@@basilem7909 It's said to be F48/R52. To be honest, this isn't noticable unless you compare them side by side. This is a really exciting car to drive, for me at least (former F30 316d driver...) In the common mainstream reviews, there are way to much focus on the economical aspect of the hybrid powertrain, and not so much on the actual power, handling and general feel of it. This car is a proper "driver's car"! Here in Norway, the 330e is 8000£ cheaper than a 320d, and therefore it's a no brainer to choose the hybrid over an ICE version. While in pretty much the rest world the 330e is even pricier than a 330i, so I guess that's why it's not a global hit. Anyhow, in my opinion the 330e is a "2 in 1" type of car - in electric mode it's comfortable and boring, while in Xtraboost it's really fun and engaging. Take it for a test drive and experience it yourself! I highly recommend it 😊

Nice review. Just waiting for mine to arrive to replace my Mk7.5 GTI Performance. Think this car only really makes sense as a company car though.

Seriously Mate, i understand exactly your "Startingpoint". Currently deciding between a 330e or a c300de or a A250e.... (The latter one since I, like you, adore Hatchbacks) Thank you for that honest review! Keep it up, even though you use the wrong side of the road (haha).

Had ours for almost a week now and the electric boost is amazing for general responsiveness. Battery range is terrible though, and drains very quickly even in hybrid mode. The car itself has yet to do more than 100 miles, but we've had to charge it daily even when we've barely driven it 20 miles. Honestly wondering if it's defective.

Me and the mrs are looking at getting one and as We love so close to work I’d want to drive and pure electric to maximise usage, have you had any improvement?

@@Hazzer20 A little. Helps that we understand how it all works a little better too. Range with mixed driving, a/c, heated seats etc is about 20 miles electric. Drive it sensibly and you can squeeze out a few extra miles, but if you have a heavy foot (which is tempting given the instant response), you'll be lucky to break 15.

Simply put, to get that daily commute economy, leave it in electric, and drive with an egg shell under your foot. For week end fun, put it in hybrid and go ham on the kick down. The electric mode is not for having fun. I got the petrol head instincts out of my system after about two weeks. Also, pre heat the car using the app. It will use the charger to get a nice toasty car in the morning, and also better fuel consumption for those critical first miles before the engine is warm. BMW's satnav supposedly also takes topography into consideration, so always use the satnav to get the most economic route. Don't know if it actually has any real effect, but the dealer told me to do it. :-)

Erm, how long to charge from flat/empty, range on electric only? Surely they’d be bits of key info? Cheers fella.

Boot space is also smaller compaired to the 30I and d because of the batteries.

Don't ever do music louder than voice.

Lex Autolease advised this car would be 8% BIK based on 41 miles Electric Range (NEDC)...Some doubt to this now because the car will only do 34-37miles on the WLTP measure and it looks like it will fall into the 12% band.

I like hybrids like this my brother owns a 2006 Lexus gs450h. Basically a 3.5 litre engine with a hybrid. 290bhp in normal mode but in power mode 340bhp. Normal mode city driving high 20s mpg

These are going to be a very common company car come April, down to 8% BIK tax, about £50 a month. The 320d was going to be about £200! No brainer. Getting mine in January. On the test drive it didn't seem as eager as my stage 2 mk7 ST bottom half of the range, but get past 4000rpm and I think this would start to pull. The last few years, any bmw I've driven or been in easily performs better than it's quoted power. If bmw said this had just over 300bhp instead of just under on the "Xtra Boost", not many people would complain.

I'm surprised you didn't think this felt eager in the lower RPM's. The electric motor with it's instant torque is quite remarkable off the line! Either way, it performs very well and the ride is super comfortable!

you need to figure out how to make the trunk visible on camera. you parked the car against the bright sky with the sun coming from the wrong side and left camera exposure in automatic so the trunk just looks like a black hole. believe it or not having a usable trunk is important to some people - if it wasn't nobody would buy a crossover. and if a hybrid loses trunk space versus regular car i want to see how much is lost. on the upside at least you explained what we were supposed to see.

I switched from an ecoboost Fiesta to a 320i and funny thing is that I was considering a Fiesta ST for a long time but the G20 impressed me from the first test drive. 330e is economical and also fast but I think hot hatches are more fun overall even if the 0-60 times are similar...G20 is the sensible adult choice :-)

I would agree. I'd say that my little Fiesta ST is far more engaging to drive when it comes to say slinging it down a back lane. But for a day to day, practical, fast, comfy car, the 330e really is a bit of a beast. I wish I could have both!

Having placed an order for this car already, I'm really eager to learn all I can about it. Great job!

So if the hybrid battery is depleted do you only have the 180ish bhp from the engine ?

No it always saves 10% and has 252bhp with battery and engine at all times

​@@sambobrooklyn316not really. If you use the performance too frequently the battery will go so low that the boost from the electric motor will not be available.

It's a nice car but I don't see why you'd choose this over the 330d to be perfectly honest. If achieving a better MPG figure is one of your main priorities, it's not going to be any more economical than a diesel and you have the extra weight of the batteries anyway. I'm not sure about the UK but in Ireland, petrol is around 6-9% more expensive than diesel to begin with. It's a stop gap, get either an electric car or an ICE car. Nice review though.

Look at the company car tax BIK rates. 330e is only 8%, or £3000. So £50/month for a 20% tax payer, £100/month for a 40% tax payer.

As Glen stated, this is all about BIK. If you mainly do short journeys, you could run this car purely on electric and never use the petrol motor. However if you mainly do long journeys, then perhaps the Diesel could be more appropriate... you'd just have to stump up the company car tax.

Not sure how you can knock interior quality on older models when you are used to Ford's

Comparing one BMW with another is a fair comparison. Equally, as the price point rises, your expectations also increase. The comment had no relation to the quality of Ford interiors.

Good to see you back mate. What is the engine in the 330e? I can get on board with a hybrid but not fully electric. Be good to see your thoughts on the mk4 focus st see how it compares to the fiesta.

It's a 2.0 turbo on the 330e. I'd love to have a play in the Focus. I'll see what I can sort out.

I want a hybrid diesel

Its a good motor, in my car I can get over 50mpg on a run and I have the more powerful 30i variant. My car is the lighter 2 series coupe though. BMW engines are just so strong right now and with stout reliability. To be honest I think the active hybrid 3 they made a few years back was cooler because it was more performance oriented with a 3.0 straight six but I like the fact the tech is beginning to flow down the product line. I think this car is definitely superior to a diesel but regular petrol heads should opt for the 330i or better.

What model variant is this? An m-sport plus?

George Dove Would be a great comparison, although I imagine the 3 series would be considerably more expensive!

Don’t buy urgent please read first my 330e nearly 4 years old done 38000 miles timing chain broke last month the engine is being rebuilt now but bmw said NO goodwill because it wasn’t brought at a bmw garage just over a year ago and it’s B service wasn’t completed a a bmw garage but a fully qualified vat registered garage absolutely disgraceful BMW should now stand for BE MORE WARY

That's normal and the same policy applies for every brand (not only for cars). If you do maintenance or repairs outside of the official network, you lose your warranty and potentially even outside warranty service.
