Russians translation: - well, D6 could be played, but idk why for just yet. I mean queen once taken D6 could (see/attack) only G3 - D6 move is possible, but.. ok first D6-G3-D3 I think would be the most neat - yes, if we eat those up there.. - well, what else can white show here? *Yan Moves* - G3. G3 has been played. WAIT! G3 HAS BEEN PLAYED?! Noooo, No way! - this is the END, unfortunately. What else can you say.. - can a camera show the table (please)? We wanna see Magnus face - Magnus facial expression gonna be utterly dumbfounded *Magnus is so astonished he breakes the chair* - this is ridiculous! What he (Yan) was thinking? ... maybe he was thinking it's already a draw, like previously? But you can clearly see it's a dangerous situation still - but why? I mean if it's only a draw then.. - yeah, just force a draw, but only after rook D4 - yes, just eat everything on D4 - this is yet another match in which we see how Yan ruins everything by his own completely unpredictable actions, yet again.. In a normal situation I'd move rook D4 for a draw. What else can you do here. But why choose to lose? - what just happened? *Surprised Pikachu Faces*
They gotta bring Howell to Chesscom now that they merged. He was the only one gentle enough to show a line to the end. Everyone went “oh Magnus is winning” and I’m sure 90% of the viewers went “but WHY!!!”

It’s not a loss of a pawn in fact he would gain material on the short term, but his position is completely destroyed and he will lose because of that.
@twig7219
2 жыл бұрын
the pawn is not important, because he's actually winning the exchange (temporarily) the problem is the queen gets in and you cant stop mate without severe material loss. but you have to calculate it, and it's actually probably not winning for an amateur player. i do agree though, it's crazy how "obvious" the win is to the stronger players, and we can see that the stronger they are the more critical they are of the position. stockfish itself being stronger than any player, and giving a -8 evaluation.

8:45 "this must be going to a draw" yea that's me alright
The blunder heard around the world
Certified Nepo move
How long can they wait before making a move?
For those who don’t understand why it’s a blunder, it’s because you trade a knight for a rook (which would be bad for the player with the rook, magnus in this position) however due to the trade magnus gets a way better position in which he is able to constantly pressure Nepo’s king or immediately try and go for perpetual check for a draw, however in this position Magnus is able to constantly keep that pressure not giving Nepo the draw he was probably going for, also Nepo is unable to get a winning position, especially because white is kinda unable to actually attack black’s king in this position however that is only if Magnus is able to find the right moves which of course he will. Of course against someone like us he’d still easily win, however he’s playing Magnus, not us.
@fos1451
Жыл бұрын
I need to add the biggest reason is really because you get the 2 pawns in front of the king, not only does a knight and 2 pawns with a rook is a good trade for the player with the rook, the pawn that’s lost is the one in front of the king, basically making the king very very vulnerable
Nepo calculated perfectly 3 years, this is the move that made magnus give up his title so Nepo can get a chance
