Last night my neighborhood experienced a five hour blackout, due to a freeway accident. My Bluetti EB3A was able to keep my full size fridge running, while my Allwei 300W kept the living room lights and the stereo going for about 4 of those hours. If the blackout had lasted all night, the prospect of replacing hundred of dollars in frozen food would have become real. Thank you, Prof. Hobo for selling me on these products. It's hard to truly understand the value of these So-Gens until you're in the dark. I think I need an AC70.

Just be sure to test your Bluetti products thoroughly when you buy them. I didn't test my early run EB70 and it had the issue where it would die at 65% battery. I discovered the issue a month after the two year warranty expired because it sat on my shelf for emergency use for the entire time I owned it and they refused to cover it. I eventually paid them to fix it because that was still cheaper than buying a new unit but not super happy they made me pay for a known problem on those units.

Love seeing a lower priced one as it easily makes a purchase to use for UPS very likely. I need a new UPS for my main server that can push 500w on heavy load (rare) and a standard UPS is $200 so $300 more for a full backup that can handle the server and other items (router/modem/switch) totally worth it.

Better run a best on that AC70 - known issues even on the ones they are selling now. Just spent the better part of week dealing with them on it. Hopefully you got one that wasn't impacted, but all I will say is that they weren't able to provide me a replacement because the issue is present in the most recent run. You will need a receptacle tester and have the unit plugged into grid power to see the issue if present.

honestly not all Bluetti refurbished products were broken. When you send the ones they send you back are they broken? Do you think they throw it in the trash? My guess is they refurbish the products that you used and most likely never broke. I purchase their refurbished products at super steep discounts and have had no complaints at all. Don't break bluettis before you send them back and we should keep getting great deals on non pre-broken bluetti products...

Great review. I do want to add that there appears to be a misconception that the device prioritizes solar over grid when dual charging. In my testing, the device stops prioritizing solar once it hits 100% charge. I bought my unit so that it would trickle charge off solar during the day and then charge from the grid at night. Unfortunately, it stops charging off solar once it hits 100%. All the reviewers I have seen so far incorrectly state it prioritizes the solar while dual charging when their device isn’t fully charged. I wish Bluetti would add a PV prioritization to the AC70 and AC180 models. I believe full PV prioritization is only available on the 200, 300, 500 models.

I'd be curious about your thoughts head-to-head between the Ecoflow River 2 and the AC2A. It's clear that Bluetti is seeing the AC2A as a competitor to the River 2 based on the price point. I know the River 2 has more battery capacity but is more limited with the solar input (200w for the AC2A vs 110w for the River 2). Plus, as you mentioned, the bidirectional charging via the USB -C port. However, the output on that port is only 60w on the River 2 vs 100w on the AC2A. Do you think the overall capacity and USB-C bidirectional charging makes up for the solar input and the 100w USB-C output?

@hobotech I recently purchased the AC70 as an upgrade to a no-name 300w Solar Generator. I've watched this video several times trying to figure out something that I really don't see in your testing/review. This could be me not understanding something. I see you turn up the voltage when doing the input/solar charging test, but never the current/amps. Thus, my confusion if panels I'm considering would work or not. One that I'm looking at is a 400w panel with Open Circuit Voltage 48.5V and Short Circuit Current 11.17A, company EENOUR. A second is a Bluetti SP350 VOC 42V and ISC 12A Lastly, GRECELL 200W panel with VOC 24v and ISC 12.5A thinking two of using two panels. So, being confused as heck that the ISC 11-12.5 are too much for the AC70 rating of 10A. Could you help an old fellow out with this? Will any or all of these work, or would there be an issue? If they'd work, which way would be the better way to go? Thanks.

Leave it plugged in for a day or so and see if the UPS still works or if it errors out and kills the pass through power as well as deplete the unit. The past offering would do that with no load on the unit.

To me, the solar charging priority is ideal. On UPS, I love the UPS mode but I do wish they gave you a choice to turn off the ups mode, as I have some use cases where I want to use a high wattage device, but want to protect the building’s old wiring, so let’s say I have a 950w device that I need to run for 20 min, I would like to run it from the ac70, while still plugged in to the wall, but limiting any wall current to 500w.

  • @jonjohns8145

Can't you do that by selecting the slower charging modes? Set the ac70 to charge in normal or silent mode while your load is connected to it. That should do what you need.

@@jonjohns8145 it just passes through from wall outlet, bypassing the battery, until there is interruption and quickly switches to battery. So it’s not related to charging limits. OP I gather would like to have the battery supplementing the wall power to reduce the draw on the house wiring. I don’t think that will likely be made available (anytime soon at least).

@@GMC-qo9xi yes, that would be ideal, but I would be good if the out power used 100% battery and just allowed you to be charging at the same time (like pre-ups equipped models). I agree the combined/supplemental would probably be more advanced and unlikely to be supported.

One test i'd like to see is a test to see if the inverter comes back if the battery if fully depleated(or a blurb that say's it has been tested, or the option is available in app), for a UPS a feature like this is needed, or at least the ability to pass through grid power after a long power outage, a much more welcome feature (when used as a UPS) than USB-PD and wireless charging pads, while costing much less than both of those features

VERY SERIOUS QUESTION. I have a buetti and I woke up one day and it was dead and refuses to charge and everywhere I look people say the same thing as well as jackery and all of these portable solar generators. Most people say they never work again and can't get refunds and it seems to be caused by the battery going too dead. There's ways to jumpstart them but they dont always work and I'm not an electrical engineer. I bought an all in one so I wouldn't have to worry about taking it apart. I need a new one but I'm scared to lose another $300. How are these a viable product if they can fail at any time?

If it's within warranty period simply return it. Next time don't let it sit more than 6 months without charging it. All batteries go dead if they sit too long.
