I’ve seen similar characteristics from the mppt on other Bluetti products. I’ve learned to live with it.

I will do more testing to see if it really does everything but it is indeed a bit hard to see the lack of solar going in. I like it, but I need to test it even more. Also I should get my Apollos soon, and I will compare the two.

I have the AC300, the earlier version of this. It has been an excellent workhorse. If I had the extra cash I would buy the AC500 to expand our solar without hesitation.

I have Bestek 500w, two 6v cart batteries, two 100w panels and a 20 pwm controller, love watching these videos, can only dream about owning a system like that. Keep up the good work, thanks

Great video! The choices for solar generators is growing. I like what you have demonstrated regarding this unit so far. Looking forward to more on this system. 50 amps is 240v. The 50 amp requires 2 ac500s in series. Each puts out a single leg of 120v. 50amp 240v is two legs of 120v.

@@inomad1313 Sorry for the confusion but there is both 120v 50a and 240v 50a service. This unit has only 120v 50a. It's listed right on their website and verified in testing. It doesn't have 240v in a single unit.

@@inomad1313 Oh I see what you're saying. Well I will be testing that as soon as I can. I have my second AC500 now that I ordered on IndieGoGo and as soon as I get caught up on my current videos and other work I can start filming and testing.

Maybe you change your pv panel config: 2 strings with 2*4 panels parallel. Doing this, you reduce the voltage, but get the whole watts of the panels. The critical limit is the voltage as long you are under the 3 kw.

Ben, once you matched the strings did you try turning on the parallel feature on the two charge controllers? That might give them more flexibility and up the efficiency on the PV input.

Awesome Video. Hooked on your Channel now. Love you have a Solar Toy Store. Hehe. minute 13:46 of your video. metered 380w. into the 500w b300s port. HOWEVER...Solar received 46v x 8.27a. is 380. You only sending in 8.27a. IF You want B300s to reveive 500w THEN you need to up 46v to full 60v from array keeping amps mid 8's amp. Or some other combination akin to making 500w. ALSO your B300s shows often 4 x LED Lit up. Thats Full Battery. At that time the B300s limits Solar Charging to low or Zero watt.

Expansion Battery has specs: INPUT AC Input: 500W Max. Solar Input: 500W Max. VOC 12-60VDC, 10A Thus your array also can push 10A at 50volt. Giving 500w. Meaning One Big 500w+ Panel giving 50v and over 10A. Will work also. Of cource That big panel can push 50v x 17amp but the B300s only takes in the 10a limit. 50v x 10a is 500w. And another THRILL... You can use Bluetti D050s with more panels to feed 500w into the B300s AC input. GIVIVG... 1000w Solar feed into Standalone B300s.

I got mine last week too. I didn't know that the NEMA14-50 was 120v. I assumed that I can't use it until I get the 2nd battery. Pretty sure that they are always 240v for RV outlets and Electric car charging too. I guess it can be a 120v since it is just two hots, 120v each opposite of each other on the wave to give you 240.. I just don't know of a connection that is a P14-50 that is for 120v only.

Yup it's 120v not 240 because to get 240 you have to use a special device to give you two phases of electricity (two pure sine waves that oppose each other). So it's technically a 125/250v plug, so they can do both but in this setup it's just a 120v outlet.

I do love all these videos and all the knowledge you share! Can you say something like, “if I could only buy one great solar powered back up system/battery it would be _________. I’m doing my best with preparing but I’m limited on budget and skills - I’m growing those both the best I can. I get so excited and then so scared to buy “the fake”. No worries at all. I received my second AC500 unit yesterday, and am still waiting for the B300S battery to arrive, most likely today. So I'll be able to do my 240v test very soon, as long as my 240v fusion hub arrives soon too from Bluetti. I haven't made an official announcement of which one I would choose over the rest because in just a few weeks I'll have my two Apollos. And according to what's on paper, the Apollo will be the best. But I can't say that until I test it and see if it'll actually perform as advertised. Then I'll do a video comparing the Delta Pro, AC500 and Apollo all in 240v configuration because that'll be the ultimate setup. But my bets are on the Apollo right now. I'll be adding the Apollo to PoweredPortableSolar.com/ once I have them and have tested them and know what they'll do. So bare with me a little longer and I'll have the official results :). But I do believe the Apollo will be that #1 unit.

Question. Early in the video you said the 50a could run the full RV and later you said only one leg is active. Can anyone confirm how the 50a plug works.

I travelled in a Class A DP for years so I’m familiar with RV power. 50 amp RV service in a campground actually has two 50 amp legs for a total of 100 amps; that’s why I could run three ACs, plus TVs, lights, etc. 30 amp service in a campground is just 30 amps. We would need a clearer explanation of what is actually coming from the Bluetti 50 amp RV receptacle.

Only on of the legs has power. With 2 units connected with communication cable and an adapter that Bluetti sells you get a proper 50A receptacle with both legs powered and in phase for 240V.

Hey Robert, I really hope Bluetti changes their score with their customer service. I have called and emailed more than a dozen times colletively and have never been able to reach a customer service rep. I have been able to speak with sales reps to help me become a dealer for Bluetti easily but the customer side is rated as poor because I can't get anyone on the phone or to reach back by email. So if the unit has an issue, it's a big problem that may be difficult to fix.

@@minutemanprep Thank you so much for the quick reply with your experience. That is concerning. I'm seeing a good deal of responses in the discussion on the Indiegogo campaign. However, I of course know that in that discussion they have a lot of people that could pull their support still if they don't reply. I've heard good things about their support in general, including from a very recent review SoutherPrepper1 did on the AC500. However, I do put a lot of trust in how open, responsive and transparent you are with what you do. I'm somewhat torn between sticking with Bluetti and going with the new Apollo unit. I did some digging online and I do see good reviews, but not a lot of them. I sent a message to their support to see if they'll answer some questions I have, but otherwise I haven't tested their customer service. It does look like they're fairly new to the "solar generator" market, but as Will Prowse in reviewing another Hysolis product, "They're learning quickly". So as of this moment, I see pros and cons here for working with either company. Either way, thank you so much for doing what you do! I'll keep watching and referring others to you as I've done for a while now. 👍

@@briterobert Personally, my money is on the Apollo over the AC500. The only big winner of the AC500 over the Apollo is it has a 5,000w inverter and the Apoll only 3,000w. But personally having worked with solar generators for 7 years now, 3,000w is plenty of power. I'm literally at my off-grid cabin right now typing this and I am still using my Titan that has a 3,000w inverter. I have run my microwave, toaster, oven, wifi, lights, fridge and so on without any issues at all. So I don't feel that the extra 2,000w of inverter power is necessary unless you're running a lot of heavy equipment. Then to that point, it will still be possible to link more Apollos together to get a larger inverter capacity. The Apollo will have way better solar input and expandability. But, I still haven't received my two Apollos two know how well they truly work in real life. I will continue to test the AC500 as well as the Apollos when they come in. If I were in your shoes, I would wait just another month or two before pulling the trigger on a unit. If anything, that will give you more time to save up some more pennies to make sure you get the exact kit you're wanting/needing. I am designing the AC500 and Apollo kits right now so when both units are available to order outside of pre-order everyone can get completed kits.

They just keep pumping them out. I've never seen such an explosion of products in such a short time. Not just by 1 company but by so many companies. Helps keep prices reasonable anyway.

They really do which is a good thing becuase it makes the market more competitive and so they are making cooler advances and trying to lower prices.

I am guessing the reason it's not charging to full potential. Is because once the batteries start to reach a high state of charge the MPPT controller starts to limited the power input.

It may be limiting the total charge power due to the battery state of charge.

The cigarette lighter to mc4 is for chargeing from ya car it goes in through the solar port as its a dc connection

I was taught that you never disconnect MC4 connectors under load because they will arc as any DC will. The arc will degrade the connector components and restrict current flow if not destroy the connectors functionality.

I've have heard the same, but have been doing that for years and have not seen an issue yet. I obviously wouldn't advise it, but I do it.

First of all, thanks for the excellent video. I have a newbie question. I am looking to purchase 6 solar panels (360w each). Each one has a VoC of 47.5. Am I right in assuming I need 2 strings of 3. I am also assuming that the voltage should be ok i.e less than 150v.

Yes you are correct. Three in series will have a max VOC of 142.5v. Because the AC500 has two solar inputs I would put one string on one solar input then the other string on the other rather than branching the two strings together into one solar input. You'll get more solar power that way.

How about the do5os charging inhancer kit what does that do

Can you recommend specific solar panels and cables for newbies to follow? Can you do a set up video to panels?

Absolutely. That is one of the videos I am working on. But basically 10 gauge wire is what is usually recommended for solar. If you're not using more than 15a then 12 gauge is perfectly fine. I was using 12 gauge in this video. It's pretty much what I use for all of my solar generators. I will be doing videos specifically on the solar setup with panels.

This is interesting, I wonder if they can go household yet? The problem I see is with solar panels in the winter. With bills set to rise, how can the panels deal with the colder climates? .. Subscribed

Really enjoyed this video. Was going to purchase a whole home system, with 24x365 watt solar panels and a 7,600 watt Inverter with charge/MPP. Mainly because when you buy these Whole Home Solar Systems you get a huge 26% Federal Tax Credit (in my case $17,533.43). But the problem with this is you have the two large 6 battery wall mounted cabinets! So there is no way to move a portion of this system to your summer Lake House. So I was thinking if there was a way to get the Bluetti system your described with the Dual AC500/B300S system as part of my overall input then I could get Federal Tax Credit against that as well?

You can get the tax credit with these systems as well just as long as you're using it to reduce your power consumption.

I would like to see maybe 1 or 2 outlets and just a screen i really don't need all those outlets i have plenty in my trailer. I just need solar, land and maybe super charging like at a vehicle charger station

What's up Louis came up with that I do want something like that two of them and the 16 batteries but I think I'll take some time to get all the batteries but like you said you got to start somewhere and that might be a good place to start so when I get in by one of those generators with a battery to I think I'm going to do it who knows maybe I have 4or5 better than by the end of the year and two of those 5000 watts of generators too make 10,000 watts and 120/240volts .

So how long with 1 battery will that 50 amp run

How long are the cables to the solar panels. I ordered this system. Can’t get info on how long cables are from battery/inverter to solar panels. Don’t want to carry unit back & forth.

Sorry I don't know what comes in the kit since I already had my own cables and panels I just used my own equipment.

You have to have 2 batteries to max it out. Inverter and charge controllers.

Might be because the battery is at a certain percentage Would love to get one. But those are expensive.

Hold the power button on the AC500 main unit for about 5 seconds. The green light will turn off and then you can let go of the power button.

Good luck with your Bluetti Promotion. Unfortunately, Bluetti, and other companies of the like, have gotten extremely rich at the expense of American customers that they do not provide good customer service to. If any at all. They simply don't care to improve it.

Anyone know what changed between the B300 batteries and the B300S batteries? I have two B300 batteries and an AC200MAX and wondering if I should just get an AC300. Really tempted by the AC500 however.

The 300S batteries have built in heaters so they can be charged in colder temps. They also have different connector and only work with the AC 500. The B300 works with the AC500 though. You can use your B300batteries with the AC500

The question is, if I plug my RV 50 amp plug into the AC500, will everything in my RV work? Or only half of it?

Only half. I truly have no idea what Bluetti was thinking in this design. I was confused at first but after testing I found it only have one 120v hot leg in the 50a plug. You need two AC500s and a special adapter cable to get 50a service to an RV or house.

We are still waiting for someone/anyone to sell a dedicated 240 volt solar generator. If there is one out there please let us know. Thanks for all the great videos.

@@philigan2339 With two AC500s you can get 240v power quite easily. Same with the AC300 and the Delta Pros. That will be the case with the new Apollo that is coming out soon as well. Even a new Mango Power unit will be able to do 240v with two units. But, the new Zendure SuperBase V can do 240v power with just a single unit, which is very cool. So there are lots of options out there. Personally, my favorite is the Apollo but it's not out yet. So when I get mine in a number of weeks I'll do lots of videos showing if it works as advertised. Until then, I recommend holding on before purchasing a full system so I show what these systems will and won't do.

I'm sure it would be less expensive to buy one unit that is designed to just deliver 240V for a well pump or similar need. Plenty of people would buy it, I'm sure. There is a company that sells a dedicated system for well pumps but TOOO EXPENSIVE!!!

is EcoFlow the only one that you can charge at an EV charging station? Am i wrong to think that THAT is a huge benefit?

I think for some people it would be. Most people aren't going to wait at a station for over an hour. It has the EV charging station plug but doesn't deliver at the speeds you're probably thinking about. They're getting there but I don't think it's really viable outside of emergency, which in of itself is still pretty cool. Just in terms of charging speed, this unit will charge at 4,500watts if you have access to 240v AC.

This is an option from Bluetti. The adapters are rare, but they do exist.

That thing is huge! How much does it weigh? Can't imaging using it in my van. I don't understand why it can't just limit amount of solar coming in and go ahead and use what it needs. Makes no sense to me.

That whole system is almost pushing 150lbs. The battery alone is almost 80 and is A LOT bigger than it looks in the video. Not as portable as I was hoping, and I workout 😬

What solar panels are you using? specs?

Thank you for the video! Sorry if this is a newbie question but isn’t the total VOC too close to the 150v max if you consider the temperature coefficient? I’m in Southern California where it doesn’t get too cold in the winter so I was considering getting 7 of the newpowa 220w in series per controller which would be a total VOC of 143.64. If I use the NEC multiple of 1.08 considering SoCal coldest temperatures, it bumps up the VOC to 155v. I guess my question is, does the controller protect from the over voltage or just give an alarm?

@@sephystar As soon as you bump over 150v it shuts down. But the voltage is really only that high right when you connect the solar panels. Their operating voltage is lower than the VOC. So if you start over 150v it won't work. But the operating voltage basically will never hit the VOC voltage, but technically it's possible.

@@minutemanprep Of course you can double that with 2 AC500s and then have 36,864 from the Bluetti system. Which is comparable to a fairly large wall mounted home system that can't be moved.

Somebody could sell a boatload if they would make 90 degree connectors for these bluetti units. Also I have the Bluetti AC500 and two B300 battery units plus I have 4 100amh Battle Born batteries. I am trying to figure how to combine them in my setup to power my house.

It is definitely heavy. It gets classified as "portable" simply because it isn't secured to the wall pretty much. Even the Renogy Lycan Power Box gets classified as portable since it has wheels, but it's 264lbs! Crazy heavy.

It sounds complicated. I don't think i could troubleshoot that myself!

The only thing I don't like about this is that the AC500 is not a standalone unit.

If it had all that in one unit very few people could actually lift it and carry it 50 feet. I see this as an advantage. You can get smaller all in one box units, however they will have less power output and less energy storage. That's how it will be for a while, as there currently isn't a good technology to do better.

Again so close on being a complete system. But the solar charging is lacking again. Maybe in a few months someone watching testers like you will actually listen and commit to making one that performs like a complete system.

Im pretty sure every 50amp rv is 240v i dont see how this would work. It wont be able to power everything in the rig as it should. You are limited as you would be on 30 amps which in my eyes makes it kind of pointless to buy one for 50amp when it cant put out enough power through that outlet to properly power a 50amp rig.

L'AC500 ( Produit UE ) présente encore des bugs ne le rendant pas fiable pour le moment.Je pense qu'il faudra attendre des correctifs FW pour 2023.Le service commercial est peu compétent pour la France. De plus le câble permettant d'utiliser la prise 220Volts 32A n'est pas vendu sur leur site et de plus est en option ??! Donc aucun intérêt d'acheter l'AC500 sans l'utilisation de cette prise 32A.
