Your basic Pentatonic licks always have such a great rhythm, and feel. Can’t resist these kinds of licks played on a Strat, with Fuzz!

@Sigge Värn Not going to argue about language, but feel is real. Emphasis of melody and phrasing are artistic expressions. Music is an art. Time in music is not a rigid math equation. Not timing, but time. You can have great timing, but be playing with time, slight behind (or ahead) of the beat. This along with other dynamics creates mood, feeling, expression. Not just what you play, but how you play it. Not what you say, but how you say it. It’s the difference between 1st chair, and a Soloist. Both have great technique. Both sound “good”. One has more expression…feel. You can have great technique playing amazing riffs, but if you don’t have good feel, you will bore your audience after a few minutes.

@Sigge Värn Spoken like a person that does not play an instrument or, someone who is a beginner. When people say you're playing with emotion, they really mean you're playing with their emotions as well. You're evoking emotional responses beyond the notes in the scale. You're varying timbre, timing, and amplitude to elicit feelings that a guitar playing machine, for example, could not.

@Sigge Värn Other way way around??? Musical expression is one of the elements to playing whether it's intentional or not. Whether it is good or bad is subjective.

ROSS CAMPBELL, can you do video lesson on Clapton CREAM era licks because they sound scary and eerie his wide bends and ending using major pentatonic licks. Try listening to the royal albert hall 2000 union to get licks and his double stop licks
Great video ! The Strat is a belter ! I watched the video when you said how you’d bought it from GG in Glasgow Unfortunately Custom Shop Strats are mega pricey compared to when you got yours . Might try that lick but my pinky might not like the exercise 🤣🤣

The kind of amp you're using makes a difference as well... not every pedal reacts the same... So, what amp are you using sir?

Big JB fan here!
Hi Ross, one question, does your guitar make noise? How do you do so that they are not heard in the recording? Thanks, greetings from Peru.
@ParaBellum2024
2 жыл бұрын
Do _you_ have noise problems? What guitar do you use? If it's not shielded, that's the first thing to get sorted. If you're using pedals, make sure their power supply isn't causing hum (check for ground loops). Make sure your cables are all good quality, and experiment positioning them in different places, to avoid picking up hum. If you use your amp's effects loop, put the send and return cables close together, since separating them can cause noise. If these issues are all fixed and there's still noise, experiment with your pedal and amp controls to reduce it. Also, check the power supply to your house, because if this is not consistent, it can affect your amp.
I am totally confused about which part of the Mississippi delta his accent is from?

I'd like to learn how to easily bend 11 gauge strings as you do, 10's are already thick enough, any exercise?
@RossCampbellGuitarist
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, play with them every day! Oh and run through a quick warm-up exercise or two before every practice session.
@ParaBellum2024
2 жыл бұрын
If you play a Strat, with floating bridge, bends seem easier than with a fixed bridge, whatever the string gauge. I went from 9s to 11s, then 10s, but have gone back to 9s again. with a Tele, the thicker strings were just too painful to bend, and really, I can achieve a decent tone with 9s, so there's no advantage going thicker. I also use 9s on my Strat.
you have a tendency to tuck your pinky behind the neck when you're not using it. a habit worth breaking ;)
John Mayer said it best you have to work a song from amthe beginning to the end and change it up from slow and sexy to pound it fast but you gotta get her in the mood don’t just shove it
Great video, but your tab is off 5th note in on your first lick. G string 10th fret should show a bend. Please share more, downward view of the neck would be awesome as well. Thank you!

sliding that blues note is a trick I see a lot of people employ. I tend to want to get my third finger under that note and get my pinky involved and fret those notes and have total control. don't get me wrong sliding is good all techniques are on the table but don't limit yourself to that technique when employing that blue's note in high speed pentatonic rippage
9 min video -> about 3 min of actual content
Intonation on bends will blow people away on solos. It's not so much the licks as your ability to play them cleanly and with feel. Bending a 1/4 tone when needed and not overbended to the 1/2 tone, all of these small things add up. Ross is obviously a pro but if take some basic licks and just really play them dynamically and with great intonation it will have great impact.
@RossCampbellGuitarist

Thank you! Totally agree. Bending intonation and good vibrato technique are so important.
