Love that Johnson reel!!! Those things are still amazing and work great. I have one that I got when I was a boy up in North Alabama about 42-43 years ago and it still fishes great.

Thank you for showing (and using) that vintage Johnson spincaster. I hardly ever see spincasters in use anymore. I grew up with them. Love those bluegill and shellcrackers!

That aquarium fish you caught was a pumpkinseed. They do look nice in aquariums! The blue streaks on the side of their face almost glow in the dark. Great video, Richard. Thank you!

Loved this video. My dad was one to find bream and crappie on the bed... when I was a kid I got to where I could smell ‘em, too. I grew up in Florida and we had tons of fish and fewer people back in the 60’s.😎
Love your fishing shows and there always really interesting especially the jigs. Thanks for the pointers
Awesome video as usual my friend. I have an old Johnson just like that and now I’m gonna have get it out and clean and grease it up!! God Bless 🙏. Go Big Blue 💙

The panfish slayer has struck again. Love your videos man, keep'em coming.
Your is nice to see you use that Johnson reel. I still have a my Johnson Century and my dads Johnson Sabre in my arsenal. Both reels are around 40 years old. We were introduced to them by the late and great Virgil Ward. Stay after them Richard.
Love your channel man, watched two episodes a month ago and fell back in love with fishing. Been out on the lake, River or pond every other day. Your inspirational brother! Much respect! "Woooo, okay!" 😂😂

Great video Richard thanks again for your videos love them
I like catching them on a fly rod with a popping bug too. I live on an 18 acre lake camping and my knee quit working and was unable to put my boat in could hardly walk. Luckily the bluegill were bedding right by my campsite. Was able to catch 4 or five for dinner when I needed them. Great watching you catch these bulls. Fall fishing here in Virginia for panfish starting to pickup.
Thems good eating size, I wish I had them that big around here. Greetings from Tellico Plains, Tennessee.

I love watching Richard he doesn't edit out those puny little fish like that little aquarium looking fish. Watching those so called pros on TV you would not see a small fish from them to proud and it gets edited out lol
Thank you for the catch and release!
my daddy use to catch some big bass with a johnson century reel and a 3 foot rod top water early morning and late afternoon here in ga-love those videos of yours -keepem coming

Sweet video Mean Gene!!! At 8:15 it was funny you said that about that little pumpkin seed being an aquarium fish lol. Cause I got a few of em in my crappie, sunfish tank. They are real hardy fish & make great pets. I really enjoy feeding em and watching em play around🇺🇸 🐟
Speaking of aquarium fish Richard Gene. i've actually got a 150gallon native tank with longears, pumpinseed, and redbreasts. you thought the same thing i did. man these sure would look nice as an aquarium feeeeesh.
Look like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing.
Lol!! Been catching shellcracker all my life. Never knew why they called them that. Learn Somthing new every day!! Lol!! Thanks
Great video. I like to see someone else besides me using old reels. 👍👍👍👍

I've always watched your videos before I go crappie and bluegill fishing so I know some new tricks lol
My grandfather has (and still uses) a 1970 Mitchell 301. It's only needed one little repair in 50 years and the paint is chipping a little but it still gets heavy use on rockfish every year
I bought my daddy 3 of those Johnson reels and very old flueger Cork rods now that's fine fishing and the best eating like I told you before machine you and daddy are the best in my mind roll tide
You need to get a TV program, like ol Red Holland use to have, you'd go far,in my opinion. Lol ,love you're videos. Ozark Alabama
Love the Johnson reels
Love the video again Richard you make some awesome ones I love artificial lures the best I can out fish live bait on artificial most of the time not all the time but most of the time love it have a great weekend thanks for the videos keep up the good work man you're enjoying life living large keep it up hi-five on enjoying life and living large
Love your fishing videos
Great video man. I love bream fishing. You would love the Santee Cooper Lakes in SC. Huge Crappie and huge Shellcrackers.
Another good informative vider , thank you.
That sound feared me up!!!
Wow seeing that old Johnson reels brought back memories. I can remember being 4-8 years old in the 1970's and seeing people using those green or red Johnson reels. Then again the red reels could've been Abu-Garcia.
That’s a cool old reel. And I love how highly you speak of bluegill fishing (esp the red ear my dads fav fish). It’s what made me love fishing. Not Bass fishing which is more of a difficult hunt I suppose. Seems like guys get embarrassed to admit how fun bluegill fishing is.
Heard them called stump knockers too. Fun to catch, and good to eat.
Put em in the bucket
Great video, love your videos
theres a pond about an hours drive from where i live in kansas and they have bluegills, and red ears, pumpkinseeds, and green sunfish, makes for some fun ultralight fishing
I subscribed to you because i am all about any type of bream!!
Nice 👍 Richard!
Johnson's closed faced reel has a nickname The Country Mile . 🐔 Chicken Fishing 🐔 When I was a lil boy mom would ask to go catch a chicken for supper . Being as my legs were too short to out run our leg horns I'd get my fishing pole , nail a hole in a piece of hard corn , tie my line through the hole and toss it amongst the chickens , when one swallowed it I'd pull it in .
There bedding here in southern Iowa! Good video I’m new to your channel I like your content!
Love ur videos ❤️
Fine mess of fish-- u still the man -+ KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!!
Dang I wish I could find some shellcrackers that good. Lovely fish there

i have one old one..its a jonson long cast..name of it.. they are good pushbutton reels..reel strong
Swwwillll...good fishin!
Hi Richard, Thanks for another Awesome video! Would you please do a Crappie post spawn video.. Thanks Don
HA! I had a reel like that when I was a kid. They are nostalgic but I doubt I would ever fish with one again.
Good fish buddy. I live in Guntersville.
I think fishing with lures is more fun than using live bait...back in the day I used to love those Johnson reels (the Century)....reminds me of my father because that's all he used
Those are decent fish but I catch platter size shellcracker and bluegill twice that size in my honey holes. If a Bass fought like a Shellcracker for the size, you would never get it in the boat.
Your style fishing is similar to mine. You use jigs and I use red worms and crickets. I like to drag the bottom for shellcracker. I fish lake Eufaula on the Alabama-Georgia line
That century izzzz Cherrrry
Like those Johnson reels
Nice fishin’ Richard. That’s some good size fish too. Curious, in the spawn I would be looking for beds close to the banks and docks and noticed you were a good 30ft off the bank at times. Do you just try your odds on both sides of the boat? Or do you see things that key you into where they are like a stump? Makes me think I’ve been passing them up. Thanks in the advance
FISHING MACHINE!!!!
Nice chinquapin! Was there anything that clued you in on casting off shore that far? Could you see the bed? Thanks
You're the best
Another great video sir,Do you ever do a walleye video Thanks
were can you find those micro jigs at richard gene . or are they the 1/32 jig you use
What float do you use? Thanks for sharing
thanks
Let's Letem Go!
love it
What do you think about 'Sudden Impact' for Catfishing
That is an unusual flot you are using. What is it and how is it attached to the main line?
Nice Shells on the good ole American made Johnson! You have any American made Zebcos or Shakespeares you like to use? Also very nice vintage gear!
Lake Villa, Il.,Deep Lake. We had zebra mussels come in about 5 years ago and we put in shellcrackers and I hardly see as many zebras anymore.
Do the males and females guard their eggs? Do you know if they make nests and if they form colonies or just singles?
My dad use to bass fish with reel just like that wtth 3 foot rod caught a lot of 8 lb plus on rapalas
