BlueDriver OBD2 Diagnostic Scan Tool Review (reads ABS, Airbag, Tranny Codes)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is my independent review for the Lemur Monitors Blue Driver OBD2 Scanner. This is my go-to scanner. If you need to get yourself a scanner, I would seriously consider the BlueDriver because not only can you read and clear the typical check engine light codes, you can also read and clear airbag, transmission, ABS, and other module codes (for Ford, GM, and Chrysler vehicles and now it works on Toyota too!).
Here is where you can get the BlueDriver: amzn.to/1XNUGfz
Other Information: www.lemurmonitors.com/
-The app is easy to use and has a clean interface.
-Reads and clears the check engine, abs, airbag, transmission, and other module lights
-Works with Bluetooth Phones and Tablets, Android 4.0+ and iOS 7+
-View Freeze Frame Data
-View Mode 6 Data
-Run an emissions smog check
-Repair reports help you figure out the most common fix for your problem
-Live Data can be graphed

I've had my Bluedriver for about 3 years now and love it. I will periodically just use it to check the health of my vehicles even when there is no check engine code light on. It shows more data than just the basic code reader used at the auto parts store. Love how it gives potential causes and fixes to try. No having to drive across town to the auto parts store to check what codes you may be throwing. Small lightweight and easy to carry with you or throw in your pocket.

For an experienced auto mechanic that knows what all the sensor information means this is AWESOME. Mode 6, live data and freeze frame data are very useful if you know what you are looking at. Being able to read real time sensor info like short term fuel trim, rpm, etc is gold information for someone who knows what he is doing. Getting fix info is also gold, for some reason I thought I saw this was from Identafix, if so then it is spot on. A lot of people think that just because they have what caused the code and all it takes is to replace that part are dead wrong, the parts stores will read your code and then sell you the part, most of the time it is not the part they sold you that is the problem. For instance code says right front brake sensor failure. More times than not (like 99% of the time) it is the wiring harness for the brake sensor at fault. or and o2 sensor code, rarely is it the o2 sensor, but ppeople throw o2 sensors at cars like there is no tomorrow. Since we can read real time data like long and short term fuel trims we can trace down the problem too something like a small crack or loose clamp left loose (seen a million times) in the air induction hose from the air filter housing to the throttle body causing a lean fuel trim. As a retired ASE Master Tech I WANT this. wife says Mmeh! I also recommend.

Hey, Chris... I purchased this product after seen this video a few years back. I had a 02 GMC Envoy, and this tool aided me a bit. True be told, I was not happy with it at the time because it did not have sufficient information based on my truck. I came very closed to give it away more than once that's how frustrated I was with it. For the past week, I have been looking into getting another car because I could not fix my truck anymore and I decided to take the BlueDriver along with me. Needless to say, the information provided by the BlueDriver has saved me a lot of pain and money. I have come to love the ability to scan all available modules of a car when I am in the middle of drive testing it. Most of the cars feel good when driving them, aside from some weird noises when the engine is running or the white smoke coming out if the tailpipe is usual tare & ware. The new update to the software and the information provided from the scan has left many sellers looking dum. I guess they did not expect to see someone come in and scan their cars. Most people leave that to the professionals, I just cut the middle man and safe money in the process. It's about 100 to 150 USD to scan and pre-buy inspection of a car and I must have seen ten cars the past week. If I had to pay the mechanics fee for pre-buy inspection every time I would be in the red just by doing that instead of saving the money for the car I need. Enough said, Thank you and have a great weekend...

I'm a used car dealer and I love this tool. It's invaluable when appraising trades, especially the old turds that I'm worried might not pass emissions. Even better though is if a customer is "forgetting" to mention issues with their car they usually start singing like a canary when they see me plugging it in. You may get a laugh out of the term "stealership" but no one thinks about all the customers who flat lie about the issues with their trades. It happens ALL the time and in my case as an independent dealer fixing those undisclosed problems comes right out of my pocket. Great video Chris.

This BlueDriver eliminated the ABS light which has not come back on. It eliminated the check engine light also which has not come back on. Once a sensor trips the circuit it is forever it seems. Not with this tool now. I highly recommend it. (Also, I did clean and check ABS connectors, fuse clips etc, looking for corrosion after 14 years. Neat tool. Thanks.

For less than the price of one weekly trip to the grocery store, this is a nice piece of mind that could save you a trip to the dealer or parts store. Then if you do need to go to the store or dealer, you will be better informed on what they will be telling you and that could save you a ton of money and time.

Best thing about Blue Driver (when you have an internet connection) will pull down the top 4 issues of a specific problem. You then email the report to yourself or friend and look it over. The report gives you items you may not think would be the problem. One item I can't seem to find on Blue Driver is nowhere does it show the battery voltage.

What I've found is that most of these obd dongles. Are useless to a professional tech. But basically most do the same job. Some have more features then others. And some do professional stuff. But require fees to keep using said features overtime or add these too different cars. Like autel and thinkdiag. Kinda disappointing honestly.

That was an awesome review, Chris! That device has a ton more features than FIXD! I have FIXD, but I'm not too happy with it. My mother-in-law had a check engine light on, I ran a scan and it found no issues. I had an intermittent oil light and FIXD found not issues even when the light was on. I don't know if BlueDriver would've found those issues, but I do like the bigger feature set BlueDriver has to offer. One of the other things FIXD could not tell me is that I needed an $1500 front struts and control arm replacement. I really don't fault the device for that since I don't think my 2007 vehicle at the time had sensors to find issues like that, so I imagine both devices couldn't detect that. When my subscription is over with FIXD, I think I'll give BlueDriver a try.

  • @djscoville

    @djscoville

    3 жыл бұрын

Actually, this is not a bad strategy or “rule of thumb” for the average driver. If you know you need to change your oil winter, spring, summer and fall, you are less likely to forget about changing your oil. I first heard this strategy back in the 1970’s from my auto tech instructor. It’s the strategy he used and I pretty much use it to this day. Of course, I do all my own oil changes and they run me under $20 a pop. And considering my wife and I each drive about 20 - 24k miles a year, it works out about right, mileage-wise. If you only drive 5000 miles a year, then yes, this is overkill.

I took my girlfriend's brand new Hyundai Elantra into the dealership because it had a check engine light. I asked if they could kindly pull the code for me because the local Advance Auto told me their OBDII scanner was out of service (yeah, whatever). The dealership wanted to charge me $40 just to pull the code. They said they would reimburse the $40 if it resulted in warranty repairs. I told them no thanks. I went home and purchased a $20 OBDII scanner on ebay and a few days later, I was able to confirm that it was a loose gas cap. I effing hate car dealerships with a passion. They could have spent 5 minutes to earned some valuable good will but instead made a permanent anti-Hyundai never-again-customer. Edit: That was 10 years ago. I still have that OBDII scanner in my toolbox and it's served me, my brother and two of my friends very well. One of the best $20 I've spent in my life.

I have been looking for a more advanced scanner for awhile. The live data and sensor reader is great. With more complex cars, the basic ones only narrow it down to a needle in a haystack. Unless you have live data and able to read the values of sensors, it's fairly hard to find the cause. Thanks a mill for the review.
