A2B via Sea is (virtually) taking you aboard Irish Ferries vessel Blue Star 1 from Pembroke Dock in Pembrokeshire, south Wales, to Rosslare Europort in Ireland - a journey of around three hours.
Blue Star 1 is presently on a short term charter to Irish Ferries as the 'usual' ferry on this route, Isle of Inishmore, is operating from Dover to Calais.
Blue Star 1 is a good choice of ferry for this route as she is a good fit for the berths in both Pembroke and Rosslare, she has a range of amenities for the route of this duration; cabin accommodation for those who wish to sleep plus, her exceptional speed - she is a fast vessel and should the need dictate, she can make up considerable time during the crossing. The only down side is she does not have vehicle 'drive through' capabilities meaning an internal ramp gives access to the upper vehicle deck causing some delays to those parked up there as you will see in this video.
All passenger facilities are located on Deck 7 with cabin accommodation above.
At the bow of the ship is a large, spacious and very comfortable lounge with floor to ceiling windows. Walking aft you will find Cafe LaFayette with Boylans Brasserie next door and a conference room / cinema.
Continuing aft is the Reception Lounge, gift and souvenir shop, play room and reclining seat lounge.
Finally we come to the main shop selling duty free wines, beers and tobacco and the Club Class Lounge.
Exterior decks are available on the port and starboard side of this main deck.
Tucked away upstairs is a 'weather deck' - an area to get some sea air during periods of poor weather however, this is not presently in use.
This footage was taken immediately following Storm Eunice - the tail end we 'ran into' on our way back to Pembroke.

i thought for a second that the ship was sold. i was using it in university every summer. one of the fastest and comfortable of blue star ferries

Here in greece, we really miss her. Its from blue star ferries and it was traveling to the route Rhodes - Piraeus. Its a lovely ship and we are happy that you really apriciate her!

Dont worry she is only on a lease for the time being hopefully she will be back sailing in her home waters soon enough!

Made the same trip when I was 13 way back in 2004. Those alarms will for ever be engraved in my mind as the start of the summer vacation.

@@A2BviaSeaonTV A ferry’s flag depends on the port it’s registered in. The Blue Star 1 is registered in Piraeus, Greece and therefore bears the Greek flag on her stern.
To anyone heading to this ferry follow the signs to Pembroke Dock, there is no port in Pembroke. (The marketing people apparently thought Pembroke Dock sounded a bit common, or maybe they just went there, if so fair enough! :) I have had a few people asking me the way to the ferry terminal in Pembroke town because they hooked a left turn to Pembroke when they saw the sign, instead of carrying straight on to Pembroke Dock.

Thanks for watching my video! Thats right, the ferry is at "Pembroke Dock" not Pembroke. Following the signage from St Clears I reached the ferry in around 30min by car. A blog will be posted to my website www.a2bviasea.co.uk in due course
As we see in video, embarkation process for passengers without vehicle, is comfortable by bus and maybe could be tested in major Greek ports such as Piraeus, Patras, Heraklion, Chania, Rhodes, Kos.

Hey got back Sunday 24th. It was a good crossing over and back, very quick, I did use the club class which was a little disappointing, not as good as the Innishmore.
I just got back from two DFDS Dover sailings crew where very strange with me insisting I do not film on board even through no one was around . No passengers on my film for privacy reasons . Very strange but will not be sailing with DFDS for many years to come . Anyway .
Really grateful for this video. I really want to try her out now. I think you are the first person to properly video BS1. By all accounts she’s a reasonable fit for the route albeit no double deck loading. Are the crew Greek/Lithuanian?

Thank you so much! Yes, I recognised there is very little information of this ship which is why I made sure I could travel on her although, I had to change my plans owing to Storm Dudley and Eunice. To be honest I cannot confirm the nationality of the crew but yes, I believe them to be mainly Europeans on the hotel side of things.

Beautiful ship. I used it 3 weeks ago. Piraeus to Naxos return Comfortable fast and seems very reliable. 5 stars to Blue star ferries. William Ireland

Me too! I think only once did I venture up there, I think back in 1999 or there abouts when the Koningin Beatrix was on the Fishguard run

Hi. Thanks for watching. It was a charter from Blue Star Ferries to Irish Ferries which was due to last one year with the option of a second year. It looks like IF have taken up that offer. The crew are a mixture of European nationalities

Wet lease is an aviation term, the marine term being “Time Charter”. Similar thing with the owner supplying the Deck-and Engineering crews, Irish Ferries as charterer provide the ‘Hotel Staff’ and also the bunkers (Fuel). A dry lease is termed a “Bare Boat Charter”
