I don’t believe a charred crust- common if you look at rustic Italian pizza- means the pizza itself is overcooked. The cheese is still melty and the toppings are vibrant in color. Just a certain style

Many pizza aficionados prefer that burned over cooked quality. In a blind taste test, it shouldn’t taste bitter though.

It's not overcooked. It's a different style of pizza than you're used to, obviously.
