A Blue Monk guitar tutorial instrumental has been on your wishlist for quiet some time now. So here is a not too hard to play, yet interesting sounding chord melody version of this all time jazz blues classic by Thelonious Monk.
I harmonize the melody in diads, triads and chord fragments. This enables you to change chords quickly and makes for a nice harmonized sound. for each note in the melody.
The Blue Monk chord progression is a little bit different from the standard Jazz Blues. We have no cadence and the sixth degree is not in there too.
I'll show you each of the Blue Monk guitar chords note for note, slow and easy and there is also a slow tempo playthrough of the entire song towards the end of the Blue Monk guitar tutorial.
I've made the Blue Monk guitar tabs, including standard notation as PDF and Guitar Pro files. I've also made a sounding Blue Monk backing track at regular and at slow tempo, which you can all download from the link in this description box. If you want more lesson material like this Blue Monk chord melody tutorial, please check out my lesson shop guitarversum.com.
If you like my Blue Monk guitar tutorial instrumental, please give it a fat thumbs up, share the love and the knowledge.

Thank you too!
Many thanks Sandra, this is my lucky day ! I began to study this song today and I had just decided my phrasing with lots of tritones Monk's style when KZread's algorithms sent me your great and awesome video. As your arrangement is less dissonant than mine I'll try to play it first to tame listeners' ears. And as I will have stolen some of your ideas, I hope I can someday record mine to send them to you. It depends only on my 69 old painful and lazy fingers'will and the speed I'll be able to jump from an arpeggio to the next one. I'm not sure if I can take a firm commitment because I'm just a one year beginner on my own. A child learning to walk first crawls on four. So thousands thanks for what you share, you gave me big motivation ! Greatings from Paris 🇫🇷 PS. For those who don't know her yet, you can check Hiromi Uehara on the BBC. She is fantastic !
