The only real issues we have is she does not like kids, will avoid them at all costs. She is adult shy but kids just make her go other way. Energy is crazy so in rain keeping her occupied is a lot of hallway fetch and indoor games, still gets walks but not long enough. BTW she is my profile pic.

    Mate, the stumpy comes in either red OR blue. If they have a mix of colours they are not pure bred, there is a x in the mix. I have been breeding stumpies in Oz for 30 years now. They do not have a mix of colours. Blue heelers can and will have tan on the chest legs or face.

    My Bluey has the ideal, as far as purists believe, ideal and perfect colours. Black coat, white guard hairs, red cheek pieces, red chest and forelegs, white patch on forehead, double mask. Now THAT is the ideal Blue/Red dog. I had a blue Stumpy Tail and they are very obviously a different dog. But yes, you're correct, just like a Blue dog the Stumpy comes in two colours. Just like humans have blonde hair or not.

    Fun fact; Stumpy's were originally bred to bypass some crazy law in Qld that taxed tailed working dogs but tailless (which there were none at the time) because they supposedly didn't exist were tax exempt.

  • @bozzskaggs112

    @bozzskaggs112

    That may attributive to an English law that didn't tax working dogs which were identified by their bobbed tail. This is said to be the reason the Old English Sheep Dog was bred to be bobbed. Using the magic of WWW I check my comment and my errors. Why do so few who comment on YT fail to check their assertions? If they only had a computer they could verify the validity of their YT comments, or those of any other social and unsocial media. The Old English Sheepdog (correct spelling) is NOT a born bob but often docked at a few days old because of tradition and because they look better bobbed. Some people think they look better. I'd rather have a dog with his rudder intact especially if he is a performance dog.

    Nope. The tail tax originated in England. Never introduced in Australia. The bob tail comes from the original Smithfield. An English herding dog. They were good, intelligent herders but Australua was to hot a climate. The smithfield was then crossed with the dingo but the pyps were very savage. They were then crossed back to the Coolie and that was the start of the ASTCD.

    They are, or originally were completely different breeds, bred from different original breeds seperate to each other for different purposes, i.e. to avoid paying taxes in Queensland on working dogs. Tailed dogs were non existent so they were tax exempt, hence the Queensland stumpy tailed cattle dog was created, no tail, no tax. There are a few distinct differences between the two breeds in appearance and size.

    They are very different. I have had ACD'S and needed 2 more pups to train. Answered advertised Blue Heeler puppies that were 5 weeks old. I quickly realized something is different. Extremely aggressive. They didn't heel from the back of your foot, they bite the front of your foot grabbing the big toe. That's why they were called Timmons Biters and considered too aggressive. The pups are 11 months old now and I'll need a blood transfusion soon as they haven't calmed down yet. 😅

    Your dog doesn’t look like the Australian version of a stumpy tail cattle dog where they have a longer body and a bit taller than the cattle dog. Blue Heelers and Red Heelers is the common name for Australian Cattle Dogs. Stumpy tails worked with the drover - one man, one horse, one dog… they go out and bring in stock together and meet the other drovers at the yards. The stumpy’s job in the working pack is to take the beasts face. The cattle dogs take the heels - hence ‘Heelers’ . Stumpys are better as a family pet.

    The original purpose of creating the Australian stumpy tailed cattle dog was to avoid paying taxes on working dogs in Queensland in the late 1800's. Tailed dogs were taxed, tailless or bobtail dogs were somehow tax exempt. In a nutshell that's why stumpies were originally created. Briefly, different breeds were also used to the breeds used to create Australian cattle dog than Australian stumpy tailed cattle dog, the main breed being the smithfield.

    I purchased 2 "blue heelers " just over a year ago. They were 5 weeks old and mom quit her job. She had 7 puppies, 4 born without a tail and 3 with. I noticed mom looked a little different because I'm 56 and have had heelers before. After a year I can tell you their different. Their smaller, more square bodied vs shorter than their length wise. Temperament is different too. I noticed they bite alot when getting excited. That's why they were known as "Timmons Biters". And... I can't leave out the dead giveaway. ACD pups nip the back of your foot at the heel. These kraken sisters, as I call them, grabbed our big toes and nipped at the front of the foot. They control the animals from the head and not the rear. I have researched alot over the year and I positively can tell you they are cousins, but not the same breed

They have been off the collars for almost 6 months. They roam free but stay at the house all day, even though they have plenty of property to run off and explore. I have had several blue heelers. Yesterday I took and rehomed a small male, all blue, no tan points, with a completely stubbed tail. I can't tell if someone docked it or it is natural. He was dumped in a parking lot, so we have no history. I have read everything I can about the differences between the heeler and the Stumpy and still can't grasp the physical differences. One description discussed more wedge shaped head, one said the body squareness is the difference, but I am at a loss. It doesn't matter which he is and I am not getting a DNA test, I was just wondering if someone could give me some more accurate visuals on the difference. This video did not. All of my blue heelers, females included, were over 45 pounds with a large leg bone structure. This is a petite guy. He may have been a runt; or here people breed two smaller dogs to get a 'mini' which they think is 'cute'. So whichever breed he is, he is small. But what can I look at to check which breed he may be? I did measurements for squareness. Base of neck to base of tail is 16". Floor to withers: 16 1/2. Chest to rear hip, not curved, straight line measurement is 19". Floor to front leg elbow is 9". So Sean, where can I get some better info right from Australia?
