Last Friday Blu released a new album "Afrika" with producer Nottz and a few weeks ago we got a chance to talk to Blu after his amazing live show with Exile, MED and live band Satvrn in Warsaw, Poland promoting the album "Bad Neighbor". It was our second time meeting & interviewing Blu - first one happened in 2019 when we got a chance to talk to Blu & Exile at Hip Hop Kemp festival in Czech Republic ( • Blu & Exile on "Below ... ) - and once again the California MC proved that he's absolutely one of the coolest guys you will ever meet!
We talked about a variety of topics, starting from this year's Hip Hop 50th Birthday and Blu's most precious hip-hop memories, through his album with Madlib, recent collabs with legendary MC's such as CL Smooth, Fatlip (The Pharcyde), Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), the crazy story of Blu almost signing with Suge Knight's infamous Death Row Records in the early 2000's, the mythical unreleased debut solo album "California Soul", and his brand of soulful hip-hop & the desire to write songs with a purpose.
The Los Angeles artist also spoke on the comparisons between "Below The Heavens" and "Miles" with Exile, his love for "blue" samples, the "No York" movie and wanting to venture into film, plus a dream collab project he'd like to do - and more! Boom boom!
