Aw yes, the dreaded cam chain tensioners in the 88 Twin Cam 1999 to 2006, models. That one grenaded for sure. Check that oil pump really, really good. The catastrophic failures come after the disintegrated tensioner shoe clogs an oil line.

Every time I watch another one of your videos I was to go to the next auction and pick up another bike. Them anniversary bikes always looked so good to me

I have an 03 cvo road king with that motor only a 103...it has the badging on the side of the case...i love that...i bought it already with the upgraded cam plate and all timkin bearings...they put the stock cams back in tho, so guess what my next mlove is!.....cams, port , 10 over bore with forged maul pistons, thunderheader x exhaust...cant freakin wait!...

Great video! Looking forward to seeing what you’ll do with this bike! Are you going to keep it stock? Here’s an idea...go all out with the anniversary theme but update the bike to a “performance bagger” with a FXRT Fairing, T-bars, suspension and a killer exhaust like a Basani. It’d be one of a kind for sure.

That sounds awesome! But we’re probably going to keep it stock so it keeps the price point down for resale.

I have a question. Where was the bolt that bolts onot the crank shaft end that holds the bottom gear at? You removed the cam plate cover and the lower gear was loose, but I never saw the bolt. Also the cam plate bolts were all loose which means someone took it off and started to remove the lower gear and took the bottom gear bolt out, and then decided to just finger tighten the cover back on because something else came up and they walked away from it.

My 03 road king classic blew up at 18k I bought a 103 on the exchange program from Harley

What makes the oil come though the carburetor when you start it up. On 1340 soft tail. 1987.

While You are rebuilding,You could upgrade to the hydraulic cam tensioner kit fro HD or weld the crank & run a gear drive.

You are correct. But it’s more than we were looking to spend and the parts we had are nearly brand new. Def crosses our minds though.

hey man there is a 2013 883 sportster for sale which had the engine temperature sensor removed for a few months, and the bike runs with a rich fuel mixture now. Is it safe to buy this bike? thanks mate

I have an 04 FLHTPI decommissioned cop bike within 3 months of buying it the oil pump went out on the way to work I know it’s mechanical and shouldn’t happen but it did. I had to have it rebuilt thank god I was able to buy extended warranty from the dealer it was out of factory warranty but only had 2300 miles on it the main shaft on the crank Harley allows .003 out of round to still be serviceable mine was .065 out of round so they had to split the cases and all to replace the crank shaft not trying to make a HD commercial or anything but with the warranty it cost me a whopping $350 for a new 95 ci motor it would have only cost $50 but I paid the difference to upgrade from 88ci to 95 ci she has been a dream since then that was in 2008 the only other thing I had to fix was the clutch went out within a month of buying the bike but that’s what happens with used cop bikes those cops are hard on clutches lol love your videos keep up the great work.

@Nobby Barnes not always but in this case yes you can find them I was lucky I worked for a dealership when this one came in BMW had given our highway patrol bikes to use at a great discount.

Did you learn how to wrench on these Harley's from school or did you teach your self. From the looks of your channel you keep wrenching and I see a c7 . I'm subscribing

I'm still watching but, as soon as you took that cam cover off I got that sick to my stomach feeling. It sucks to see a bike this poorly maintained.

I had one of them POS HD worked on it 8 hours just to get to ride it 1 hour. so i got it going the last time and sold it to another SUCKER never again will i buy another pos HD
