I return to replace the blower motor and contactor on the Trane Roof Top Ac system I found frozen a few days earlier from a non working blower motor.

whom ever said your wasting time cause you are double checking the wiring, is wrong, just think, if you dont' double check and throw that breaker/disconnect, and burn up something, then having to re-wire it will be wasting time you do good work, keep going!

Great vid, you’ve got a nice Milwaukee arsenal there. I would suggest adding the M12 Version of a dremel tool with the quick change arbor..... well worth the money. Also a 3/8 universal adapter. I haul so much extra stuff around and I’m constantly trying to balance between a heavy bag and 10 trips back and forth

only thing I do different, is to attempt to remember to try mark the location where wires are oriented on the blower BEFORE I break it down. I also vaguely remember seeing a demo video to locate the plug on the bottom side, in the event condensate gets on the motor, gravity will drain out and away from the motor. Also to install a drip loop in the harness in case condensate follows the wire to the motor. Its these little things that can save you a head-ache later.

I matched the terminals to where Trane put them. It makes sense to put the wire terminals downward but not where water might get pulled off the coil. I had lots of issues with these motors where Lennox wanted dielectric grease in the moles plug to protect the motor from moisture.

@@thehvachacker ya, I was rather thinking about how sometimes things in the blower compartment might start to sweat. Especially the motor being metal to condense on. positioning the plug at 6 O'Clock would prevent the condensate from reaching the inside of the motor or the terminal connections.

Set one edge of the cage on the corner of the A/C unit foundation pad.. support the other edge with some makeshift arrangement, (even leg, foot, etc which I've done many times) and lightly tap on the shaft downward to ease motor shaft through cage.

I punched a wheel 3 weeks ago doing the exact same thing. When that set screw let go I hit right on the second knuckle of my pointer finger. Holy shit balls my dude, that was some intense pain, I had to take 5 and really curse that one out. I didn't need stitches even though I hit the corner of a fin but boy did that ever swell up worse than any other time. And that's the third time ive done that, aperantly I'm too stupid to learn to pull the wrench instead of pushing on it.

I have had great success with applying heat with a torch to kind of get the metal expanded. You want to heat the outside ring and not the bolt itself and sometimes the retaining screw will come out clean. Side effects might include fire though with the oil but that’s OK LOL. If that fails I get a pair of rather large vice grips and a brass rod and get a hammer involved.

Careful with the WD! It'll cause rubber to swell and metal to rust really fast. Previous place of employment used WD to dry drain snakes and use pb blaster to prevent rusting. Not sure why WD causes metal to rust, I think the oil in it is too thin and goes away before the water displacement does. I'm guessing it then displaces water from the atmosphere onto the metal. I just use 3-in-1, it's easy to find, lubes better, and after 10 minutes of soaking, the top layer of rust almost wipes off. And I don't like aerosol cans, i make too a mess most the time. But I do use WD to dry stuff.

WD-40 gets in and breaks rusted stuff free. May take longer yet still works. a small break and the wheel broke free after soaking a bit in wd. its not the strongest but does work and wont give you a headache when working in a confined space

The reason a puller is better for replacement is for two reasons: Easier to pull the motor from the cage, and you do not want any WD40 or likewise solvent getting into the new motor housing; as solvent mixing with the lubricant is destined early failure. I also hope that the blower motor wasn't attached to a capacitor, as good practice is to replace the capacitor with the motor and or any starting components. From my experience the compressor(s) and blower motor are protected by fuses with capacitors only being used with the condenser fan motors. As you can tell, I live and breathe HVAC. Good work man. Definitely use the puller whenever possible though. 42:00 You were talking about the wires on the capacitor. Brown is usually fan, purple for start winding of compressor, and black or yellow for common.

  • @MrDmadness

    @MrDmadness

    4 жыл бұрын

no, the contactor is powered by a 24 volt signal, it is basically a switch that is controlled by low voltage taht switches on a higher voltage component. a burnt motor can have a few reasons, the primary one being that the airflow is not enough or that the motor is under some other strain and just burns out, often this happens from dirt on roof top units, the dirt settles into the windings of the motor and eventually it either burns out or shorts to ground. the capacitor is often the problem also, as this kind of motor requires a good capacitor to function. the contactors sometimes develop a carbon build up on the contact points or other debris preventing them from closing the circuit. these can sometimes be remedied simply by light sanding the contact points if they are accessiblle.

I believe you are pulling by leg. Use that adjuststable. Put a small mark on the shaft and put the squirrel cage back at the same distance from the new motor

I think the only thing I would have done differently is not use the cover with the schematic on it as a work bench dripping wd40 on it and scuffing it up by dragging the motor etc over it. You said it was in bad shape in the last video, but you're only making it worse.

Usually I wouldn't use the cover, if you seen the initial service call kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZH1r0MqggpbfcsY.html the schematic is completely worn out and unreadable. I would never destroy the most important map to me. Yet no part of that schematic could be vital

I got a clear look at that in the last vid. The schematic was nonexistent by the time Hacker got to it so there wasn't any point in trying to preserve blank paper.

Yes it was. I left my puller in my other truck. or this would of been done a lot quicker. Sometimes you just have to make it work somehow

Good thing I didn't over torque that bolt. Sucks breaking a pressed in threaded fastener. They just spin in the housing

I never tried heating a blower wheel should work, yet spraying with wd letting it soak in while i went to truck for an adjustable wrench was all that was needed. I put the adjustable on the shaft and was able to spin the wheel free with no effort. Sometimes I need to have patience letting a penetrating oil work itself through the rust. Usually I don’t have and keep attaching. I do know wd40 isn’t really considered a penetrating oil yet I have broken free many rusted up pump bolts with it
