    This is sounding really cool. My suggestion/request: please don't release this until it is the pedal you want to release. What I mean is: it is very frustrating as a consumer to buy a cool (expensive) pedal, and a year later a BETTER version gets released. The most recent example I can think of is the red panda particle delay, which now has a new version with tap tempo. That's great, and it needed it for sure, but it feels like a punishment for those of us who shelled out the money in the first place. I get why a company would do this, but it is frustrating and disheartening and makes me lose a little bit of respect for them. So spend all the time you need to make THE BLOOPER, then let us buy em! We want it! We just dont want to be punished for spending our hard earned money on what might not be the best version of your baby. That's my two cents. Super excited about blooper 💓

    But the Particle V1 came out in 2013 (I believe...) and on a completely different hardware platform. V2 is essentially a completely new pedal with some elements of the original. I don’t think there is anything wrong with a company improving existing products and nothing would ever get made if you worked endlessly on a single idea. The company is definitely not trying to punish its consumers.

  • @thewhiskeypriest

    I don't believe they are TRYING to punish their customers... But it feels like a punishment all the same. I dig my particle delay, but I dont want to shell out another few hundred dollars to get a feature that probably should have been included in the first place. I'm not an engineer at all. I don't know what all goes into making a pedal - I assume quite a lot. My request remains: dont make us buy the pedal twice.

  • @ryanworthley4555

    @ryanworthley4555

    5 жыл бұрын

    The Whiskey Priest my point is especially with the Particle you are not buying the pedal twice. It’s two completely different things. The FV-1 chip (which V1 is made from) only has so much processing power and granular delay takes a lot of it up. The new platform is 4 times as powerful which leads to higher fidelity and more options. I actually looked up the article and V1 was designed in 2010 and released in 2011. That’s a long time ago! Imagine back to what cellphones/laptops where like then. A lot of people buy the new models each year! But don’t worry about the Blooper, there’s a USB port for firmware upgrades so as long as the hardware is sound (which Chase Bliss is know for with their digital control) it’ll be relevant and upgradable for a long time.

  • @thewhiskeypriest

    @thewhiskeypriest

    @@ryanworthley4555 that's good to hear about chase bliss and firmware. Seems like if the new particle delay were a completely different pedal (which I'm not arguing that it's not - you know way more than i do about the platforms and such) that they would put out a new pedal, and not a 2.0 version of the same pedal. The effect it has on me (and I assume others) is a feeling like we've spent hard earned money on an inferior pedal while they were making the superior one. Many manufacturers do this, at a much more frequent rate. My point is that it is frustrating and disheartening (as it is in the mad dash world of smart phone and laptop and operating system "upgrades" as well, but let's not debate that here). "It's the way of the world" is okay as an argument for how things are, but if a company or creator is asking for input on how people wish things were, then that's my input.

    Hi there Have been following the development of blooper with great interest since Ive been into looping myself for many years. I am extremely interested in the very innovative way that blooper is conceived and being built - and before I forget, I would echo the sentiment of one of the last comments in that I think we all hope you guys will take your time and get blooper to do EVERYTHING you want so we do not end up with a Version 2. The main reason I am writing is to make the following small suggestion: 1) Regarding the TRIMMER knob that you demonstrated in Blooper Reel 2 : when you showed how it works, my immediate response was to say - there should be a “detent” on the knob - a small physical “stop” so you KNOW you are in the centre of the knob’s travel. That way if you want to return to your original loop, you can just turn it back to 12 o’clock and it will click into place because of the detent. And the detent gives you a tiny physical resistance just to make you more aware that you are leaving your loop to trim it left or right. Having it without a detent means you have to “guess” where 12 o’clock is and if I missed it and accidentally trimmed my loop when I had changed my mind about doing so - I could easily trim my loop UNINTENTIONALLY. So it’s mainly just to help you avoid guesswork and avoid trimming inadvertently. I hate guessing. A VERY minor point, but I wish I could have made suggestions for the looper pedals I’ve used over the past few decades. There’s always one or two little things that might have worked a bit more efficiently or could be improved in some way. Very few pedals have everything we want but the blooper has not only the potential to have what we want but it already includes a number of ideas or concepts that I have not seen in ANY existing looper. Ever. I started with the first Boss DD-2 with one second of loop time. Then I found a Digitech rack unit that did a massive 8 seconds (RDS-8000 ??), then 3 minutes with the Echoplex Pro - and then from there into the modern world of Loop Stations and so on. So I have seen quite a few, and blooper is different, unique and has huge potential. A brief comment about the FADE control while I am thinking about it; first, VERY GLAD you have added it, it’s not boring - it’s essential! I always create a loop, and then use this control liberally, and sometimes a really long decaying slowly dying loop is exactly what you want. Especially for live work. Having one-shot is also very useful so good call there, too. This is possibly the only pedal I know of out there now that I WILL absolutely buy once it is finally released. No hurry...I want it to be the best, not get it RIGHT AWAY! The team is doing an awesome job so far and I hope the careful, thoughtful progress made will continue in an unhurried fashion that will eventually see the release of this ground-breaking pedal full of unusual features and ideas. I can see using it for a myriad of musical applications within different effects set ups. I am really looking forward to working with this amazing device. One last request too, not directly related to this blooper: Once this version is perfected - down the road at some point - please consider making a STEREO version for us stereo snobs. I have one stereo looper (a Roland RC-300 which I love despite its somewhat traditional design) and several mono loopers, (among them, the astonishingly innovative “Echoplex Pro” which I really wished was stereo too) and have owned a number of other mono pedals over time...and since most of my rigs are mostly stereo nowadays, I would not mind a larger form-factor stereo version of “Blooper”. You could call it “Slooper”. With lots of routing options please, stereo ins and outs - all that groovy stereo stuff. Otherwise, I look forward to the third instalment and wanted to say “thank you” for allowing us an early ongoing “peek” at the development process - it’s absolutely fascinating and a lot of really excellent ideas have been and are being designed into this amazing pedal. Blooper Team - please KEEP thinking miles and miles outside of any box!! All the best, Dave @pureambient davestafford.bandcamp.com

    Hey Knobs! For the one shot recording idea, I’d love to see a dip switch that is set to random to where you could one shot (like you mentioned as a sampler) but in the random mode hitting the footswitch will play different bits of the loop each time. Also I’d love to see a function that would time stretch the loops so they stay in key but sound like beautiful outer space gas

    This is going to rip, so inspiring! One thing I wish existed more on loopers is a multiply function (like the one that exists on the echoplex digital pro plus) to double/quadruple/etc. the length of the loop so you can overdub longer phrases over the top. Like, if I could record something, use the trimmer knob to resize the thing I recorded, and then was able to record a longer phrase over the top while multiplying the original loop in increments of itself (and even use the trimmer again after multiplying?!?), that would be crazy. At any rate, this seems awesome!

My suggestion - if you've got forward playback and reverse playback, could we also have forward-then-reverse-then-forward-then-reverse playback? Samplers often seem to have it ("ping pong looping") and it's great for making smooth textures out of sounds (and other weirdness) but looper pedals don't normally bother...

    No matter what happens this will be a total game changer of course (and probably an important part of the sound of the 2020s) but my suggestion: Consider developing a sidecar (use a different term or Boomerang will pay you a visit) pedal for the extra features. I (and I think many would agree) would find blooper most usable if all the crazy was contained in more than one standard CBA enclosure (especially since you are being so generously receptive to all of our ideas). Maybe you could use the firmware updates to control what features go where so you could still take the single blooper on the road? Also PLEASE consider keeping the prototype's design/colour scheme it's my favourite

    First: I enjoy your content. Second: I have a question about the fader knob. Early in the video you gave me the impression that this will function like a decay knob, in that the loop(s) will slowly fade away. Near the end you made it seem like this will be a counter/clock, which I am imagining as all the way counter-clockwise 1 loop (and it'll stop playback at the end of the loop, as opposed to fading out), all the way clockwise infinite repeats. Will it be either of these, or will it be switchable? Will it be neither of these? Thanks!

    Hey Chase Bliss, loving the videos for the new Blooper. I'm super pumped for this, but had a quick question and hopefully some feedback. I have yet to see (I sooo want this thing to be perfect!). I noticed that the idea of midi clock input control is being implemented, which is fantastic. I'm curious, I havn't seen this in any videos, but will it have the ability to 'pre-arm' for recording? Meaning, I'm playing a song that is 4 beats/measure. A midi clock is sending information to the blooper so it knows when beat 1 is, will it have the ability to be 'engaged' and start recording on the next 1 beat? Similarly, when you click to stop recording, it knows to stop at the next 1 beat and immediately start looping? This may be a simple question, but as I said, im super pumped for this and hope it has the features many of us desire!

    whats an example of what you can do with that midi input. is it to match a clockrate??

  • @josiahluck4385

    Suggestion: A modifier that emulates phase shifting a la Steve Reich, etc. So, in effect, it would start playback of your loop at a separate point - possibly on top of a preexisting loop - and you could have all the effects of the same loop being played out of sync, as it were, which gives loads of really interesting rhythmic patterns. The cutting point would have to be mathematically precise to make sure that things don't become too chaotic (Like 1/2 way, 1/4 way, etc.) You could then possibly have a feature where you fade/slide between different phased versions of the OG loop too. It'd be a really cool thing to have for live use - to be able to instantly add a phased version - since, in practice, actually working out what the phased vesion would be isn't practical to do if you're improvising and is still sort of annoying/prone to failure at other points.

    We had a knob for just this in the early Blooper prototype (Drift). I think we'll be able to work in something like this.

    Make it so that you can fade in a "performance" effect in the second loop reel by using an expression pedal. Like for example, you record a rhythm and then overdub a melody, but you want to play that melody in reverse in a sort of swell. You could fade it in with the expression pedal. Or you could also set the expression pedal to control the speed in which the reverse occurs or the rate in which the "loop reel" jams or stutters or even the rate at which it plays... the setting could be chosen via dip switches too... Just throwing in some ideas. lol

    Wait a second... If I used an expression pedal to control the Cross knob, could I essentially lock in a loop in heel position, then switch to the other loop in the toe position? One of the reasons I still use a Boomerang is the ability to switch from a "verse" to a "chorus" with ease. Not that this is the intended design here, but please tell me this is possible?!

    This is looking great, nice work everyone! I know I made a whole bunch of suggestions on the previous video, and now I can't remember any of them because I don't really care any more, because now that Blooper sound way more musical and playable, I just want to play with it to see where it will take me, rather than use it as a function box to take care of all my functional looping needs. /streamofconsciousness

    You should consider putting an LFO on it an a dip switch to choose whether it affects Warble, Filter, or Length of the loop (slowest would be unaffected and highest would be like the one shot as a rapid fire blip sound of the loop playing back superfast)

  • @Knobs

    @Knobs

    All of the Chase Bliss pedals have an internal LFO that can be mapped to any of the knobs. With Blooper, it can be synced to the loop length.

    I mentioned this on TGP, and It's probably a bad business model, but with so many great suggestions from the community, I wonder if you could offer two versions of the blooper with slightly different features. Each version would have the same core elements, but the whistles would differ between the two. Again, I'm not a business mind and it probably sounds like an awful idea from a business perspective, but it could be cool if you could choose between blooper models based on the features most appealing to your looper needs.
