Bloody Mary | How to Drink

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

On this episode of How to Drink, I’m making a classic brunch cocktail with a perfect Bloody Mary. You’d probably recognize this drink filled to the brim with all kinds of meats, cheeses, pickles, or anything that the bartender can squeeze into it. In this video, I’m keeping it simple with the traditional celery stalk, some olives, and gherkins. If your hangover is raging, and you’re trying to freshen up, I find the kick of hot sauce and horseradish in a Bloody Mary to be the perfect thing. Hope you enjoy, cheers!

2:30 Worcestershire sauce is fermented fish, onion and I think garlic (all of them are fermented for about two years in vats) with herbs and spices, it was make my two chemists after a military commander came back from serving abroad (somewhere in the Area of India I believe but could be wrong it’s been a while since I learned this stuff) and he wanted this fish sauce he had gotten used to over there, so he asked the chemists to recreate it for him and it tasted discussing, I don’t know why they ended up keeping it after it been such a failure but they did and after sitting is a sealed wood barrel in their dark seller for about two years it has turned into ruffle the stuff we know today as Worcester sauce.

No celery salt? Missing a key ingredient man. I was never big on Bloodys but I always wanted to be able to drink the next morning with the cool kids, so I set out to find the best. When I found it (a little bar in central Wisconsin) I got the recipe from the bartender and have been making them that way ever since. The vodka doesn't matter too much, it is all close to 60% Ethanol and 40% water. Gin is the same except it is flavored, usually with juniper berries and custom botanicals by brand. I like the top shelf brands, but usually, buy Smirnoff not because it's Russian, better, or cheaper, but because it's local. That's right folks, Smirnoff vodka is made in Plainfield Illinois.

I'm not here to steal any of Greg's thunder, but if you must know, their recipe is: over a glass of ice pour 2 oz vodka of choice followed by 4 shakes Lea and Perrins Worchester, 4 heavy shakes McCormick celery salt, 3 shakes Tabasco, 1 oz dill pickle juice, topped with 1 5.5 oz can premium Sacremento tomato juice, pour back and forth 3 times glass to glass, then 3 additional shakes of celery salt to top, garnish with 1 celery rib, 1 dill pickle, and 2 jumbo queen Green olives on a toothpick, and a 6 oz glass of cheap tap beer for a chaser, usually Miller Lite. Adjustments can be made, but this is ground zero for the quintessential Bloody Mary.

Always nice to see another cool Bloody Mary recipe. Mine is similar, but I add celery salt, pepper, and - key ingredient - Sriracha instead of Tabasco. Less heat, true, but it adds a little hint of garlic that really adds to the flavor of the drink.

Woooo you did it! It's funny that this shows up in my sub box after coming back from a camping trip where Bloody Caesars (we use Clamato in Canada) and vodka with Gatorade saved my life for the past few mornings. I prefer lime juice and I go a bit more heavy on the Worcestershire in mine, though. Needs that celery salt rim, too.
