Bloodborne: The Board Game Tutorial

This was a lot simpler than I thought. Those unique rules really make the game more complicated in a bad way.

    After painting the minis I dreaded that I might never play the game because, comparing it to dungeon crawlers I thought this was too dashboard-heavy & mechanical. But after watching your vid it occurred to me that this is a narrative game. Kind of like Arkham Horror LCG. So I let the story lead the way and the game is very enjoyable...

    One thing I kind of expected you to bring up regarding combat was Stagger vs Abilities, as in, when an Enemy flips an Ability, no matter your attack's speed, it will not Stagger an Ability. I know rules states Abilities cannot be Staggered or Dodged unless otherwise stated, but people do still seem to be missing it. One of those quirks of the system.

    Just a quick question: If there is more than one monster in a space when you attack do you attack both or only choose one and monsters attacking players choose one player or attack both?

    Can you go into the hunters dream at any point in your turn?

  • @michaelorona
    @michaelorona3 жыл бұрын

    Question I can't find answer to: can you choose to stop a combat at any time after the enemy has activated and attacked (assuming you survived), and just move away during the next turn and the enemy pursues without repercussions? Or do you have to fight to the death? Also, do you spawn a new enemy if there is a spawn location empty after an enemy has moved off of the spawn point until there are no miniatures remaining? E.g., a mob spawned when the tile was revealed, then pursues. On the next enemy activation turn, does another one spawn on that spawn space since the space is now empty?

    A Combat Round happens in 2 ways. One- you initiate it with an action. Two- an enemy attacks you during the enemy phase. I don’t know what you mean by “after the enemy has activated” Nothing is forcing you to remain in the same space as an enemy (unless another ability/card/tile says you can’t) Enemies only spawn/respawn when you reveal a new tile or the reset point in the hunt track

    Hi Michael, during your turn you can just move away, however the enemy will persue and then activate as normal. Alternatively you can go to the dream and leave the combat. If you hit the red spot on the track you reset the game: first you take all non boss enemies from the board. Second you spawn enemies on their marked spot on the board.

    I hope this is somewhat active. As I have yet to find a definite answer. You kill a miniboss during an insight mission and continue on in the game. Once a bloodmoon happens. Does that miniboss respawn with insight tokens as well as. Normal monsters in that room? Or does only the normal monster spawn. (No respawn of slain miniboss) An example would be killing the female patient in the long hunt chapter #2. As the game progresses and an eventual bloodmoon triggers. Does the slain female patient respawn? If yes. With or without insight? Or does only the basic beast card assosiated with the token in the room spawn? Or do both spawn?

    If a story card blocks off a tile with fog tokens and spawns a specific monster, only spawn that monster- the tile is overwritten by the story card. Once a new story card is drawn, it goes over the previous (unless it adds more rules/conditions). When a story card is overwritten, the tiles act as normal. If a story card (while active) says to respawn or to heal the specific monster when the round hits the blood moon, do that. Once the story card is inactive, don’t- treat the tile as normal

    question, Let's say you have three players. Player A leaves for the dream while Player B and C are in combat. Player B dies which makes B go to dream. Player C kills off the enemy and decides dream is best because they have 3 blood echoes. Does this mean that the tracker goes forward four spaces?

  • @CynicallyAwesome

    @CynicallyAwesome

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, yes, yes and yes The tracker moves forward as soon as someone goes to the dream for any reason (and at the end of the round),so you may even be hit with double whammy of the tracker hitting the red space and respawning/healing all quest enemies on the board. Plan your dream travels accordingly. Sometimes sacrificing blood extra blood echoes is the only answer

    I like it. It's different from other dungeon crawlers, but it does have some balance issues. sometimes you are dealt some tough random monsters and tiles that put them everywhere. some less than favorable upgrades in the dream can really cripple your action economy. luck can just swing things pretty hard even though a lot of random elements have been taken out of the game like dice, but that just means you can calculate your failure that much easier

  • @juanrey7318
    @juanrey73183 жыл бұрын

    Oh, I was doing a couple of things wrong. Sure this is a difficult game. Its just me or the reset mechanic is broken? It means you loose a turn if you slain/move/attack any enemy or if you attack a boss. It will just drain your already fragile life. I personally struggle a lot with boss encounters since if anyone dies you automatically loose the campaign because the timer is so thight you only can fight a boss on the final 3 turn, and any dead hunter has to advance the clock and waste another turn to get to the boss arena if lucky, getting hit on the last move. And you cant kill a 2 phase boss alone in 2 turns without diying

  • @DamtheMan50

    @DamtheMan50

    Timer is pretty tight and swings quite a bit based on the RNG of the tiles you draw, about which you unfortunately have no control over, other than to explore more. However, I will have to disagree about not being able to kill a phase 2 boss in two turns, because I've done that in one turn. And I had to, since the timer hit the final space reset, so it was the last turn. Add to that, since this was a Chalice Dungeon run, didn't even have any Hunter Runes or Tools to aid, just the three cards I had in hand. Played Leaping (+1 dmg, do move action before attacking), buff it more with Chikage. Play a +1 dmg, Stagger and boost its speed via Chikage, then finally an attack into 3-speed slot, boosting again via Chikage. Was there luck involved with the boss flips and the cards I got? Yes, most definitely. But you shouldn't underestimate the amount of damage you can inflict with the right gear. Notice that the above sequence was done with just the three cards you have, no Consumables, no Draw 1 cards which could drastically provide you with more options. Cleric Beast whupped my butt, but both Gascoigne fights were surprisingly easy. Start with +1 dmg card into a 3-dmg slot, throw in Counter Strike (deal 2 dmg when you dodge) and bam, that's six damage done with just two cards.

    I’d say I like the narrative of this game better although I like the flexible gameplay of dark souls. Working with dice can be more exciting than cards, but if I had to chose one for a consistent game night, I’d pick bloodborne as I think it’s the more engaging and easy to follow of the two (ignoring all the really specific scenarios and exceptions which the game owner will need to be on top of)

    Is the scaling the same as d&d?

  • @CynicallyAwesome

    @CynicallyAwesome

    3 жыл бұрын

    how is D&D scaled? In this game, quest monsters have more health based on the number of players, so teamwork is essential and if players do poorly, time goes by much faster which can trigger all kinds of bad things after another.
