Another great run. Really enjoyed that conversation about how build variety in Soulslikes is so important, immediately made me think of the crazy amount of abilities that Code Vein gives in crafting different playstyles. One of the few Soulslikes I've felt that I could really design an rpg style build to specifically counter whatever challenges you come up against.

Funny you mention the guy with the new Skyrim AE clips, I instantly knew exactly who you were talking about. I think the key to that kind of explosion with the algorithm is consistency, especially daily uploads if one can manage it. There are other ways to get popular of course, but those are the channels that KZread tends to fall in love with. Similar thing happened with a Forza Horizon 5 channel, except the guy uses essentially a bot to upload multiple videos every day. Wild stuff

It's funny you mention EazySpeezy - he just started popping up on my feed recently constantly. Actually kinda led me here, in a round about way. (speed run videos -> dark souls -> walk throughs -> soulslike speed runs)

9:55 I actually played Mortal Shell as a springboard to get into other Soulslike games. since it's a pretty short game I used it to gauge whether or not I could handle games like Dark Souls or Bloodborne, and I'm doing quite well in those games now

I found EasySpeezy coincidentally when he was blowing up because I looked for a Swords and Sandals speedrun lmao. I just like it for the nostalgia of those old flash games, I don't particularly care for his other stuff.

Id say its about putting in the effort to grow a community that sticks with you from beginning to end. Also depends on if you're on something like twitch more than youtube. Is youtube just for your archives, and twitch is your streams? If you want success on youtube--with a big community, and maybe alot of views you would probably need to make youtube your main streaming site. Of course streaming on twitch and putting archives on youtube might be better financially.

Right now you can't really create TAS of fromsoft games, even segmented runs are extremely difficult to make. There are no TAS tools at all that properly work for these games. Another problem is the timing, as you wouldn't be able to replicate the standard in-game timing method that the leaderboards use. In a TAS run you load savestates, which will fuck with the in-game timer. You might decide to time it with Real Time, manually subtract the loads and add a simulated timer in post, but you won't get the same results as with in-game time. For a game like Sekiro, we know that just by switching from In-Game Time to Real Time no Loads would change the strats used in runs, because the runs are tailored to in-game time. That being said it might be possible for a heavily moddable game like the original Dark Souls PTDE, but it's pretty much impossible for Sekiro and 100% impossible for Bloodborne in it's current state, Because of the lack of savestates.

It’s funny dist brought up the EazySpeezy thing, because around the time he got huge it popped up on my youtube feed, and I watched nothing but him for like a week. Weird how the algorithm gets you like that

For "replayability" build variety definitely trumps bosses for me. Sekiro is an amazing game and overall one of From's best games but replay value, yeah I'd argue there's not much. A game like Dark Souls 1, I'd argue the boss quality is overall just OK. A few really strong fights, but most of them are average at best with a few notably awful ones (Ol' Sweepy Hands and the Legend of the Crumbling Floors). What you can do with your character and the routing you can do with the game (still has the best interconnectivity of the games today) are a few of what give it replayability. Everyone has an opinion on Dark Souls 2. Mine is that it has the best build variety of them all. Boss fights are generally quantity over quality, but I don't think it's that different from DS1 in that it has some great standouts, a ton of middling fights, and just a few that I'd say are _offensively_ awful. Bloodborne was probably the most replayable game for me though. Though build variety is smaller, it's more specialized. You pick a few weapons you will main for a character and build around those and the weapons are all very fun and satisfying to use. Boss fights are some of the best but also just the way the game feels to play, the style, atmosphere, and the chalice dungeons despite being on one hand absolutely terrible are also amazingly addictive because of the surprise factor of the root chalices and the loot (OP gems mainly but also the chance for extra blood rock drops) and the challenge of the lower depth bosses keep me going. Oh speaking of I can't wait to see the Cannon glitch applied to the Chalice bosses. Should be satisfying to see a-holes like Pthumerian Descendant, Bloodletting Beast (both versions), the Cursed Chalice bosses (but especially Amygdala) and so forth getting Cannonfucked to death.

Agree, having diferent builds in bloodborne really changes how you face the game and even the strategy to use againts the bosses. That is a really good point that makes it stand out among the other games

It's weird, like Sekiro is admittedly the least replayable fromsoft game, and yet I've played through it more times than I have DkS1-3 combined :P I feel like it has a certain rhythm game aspect that the others don't quite have, and I actually love that

For Dark Souls weapons there are different fighting styles for weapons in the same catagory. How you attack bosses with a standard greatsword is completely different than with the Artorias greatsword. Same with a hammer or club vs Smoughs hammer.
