This episode really does have a pretty scary tone and Bloodbending itself is one of the most terrifiying things in all of Avatar. Especially if you think about how the brain is made of Water too, this technique opens up so many horrifyingly brutal possibilities

It is bending the water in a body, not necessarily only blood in particular. Bloodbending is more a symbolic name for the ability.

13:39 I would like to point out this scene and Hama's reaction. In this scene Hama was shocked by Katara's way of stopping her attack, usually a waterbender would redirect or dodge the attack and not block/blast it like Katara did....Katara actually used the earthbending style in that moment, which shows the effects of fighting along other benders lol

One of my favorite things to point out is at 13:40. The reason why Hama looks surprised here is because of the move that Katara just pulled off. Waterbending is supposed to be redirection and using your opponents strengths against them. This is NOT what Katara does here. She stands her ground and stubbornly STOPS the water. Like an Earthbender. Katara learned new forms of waterbending by observing Toph, like Iroh did with Waterbenders to redirect lightning.

Avatar drops Wednesdays and Saturdays on KZread (schedule on my channel in community tab) so I‘d say another month or so we should be done over here as well 👍🏼

xi is energy, not liquid. Bending Xi would be more along the lines of energybending

It’s a good thing that there’s only three books, or Katara would have found some reason to trust a character in one episode and then be betrayed in the same episode. She did that with Jet all the way in book 1, she even trusted Zuko for like 3-5 minutes because that was certainly a “choice”, and now Hama. When something seems to be too good to be true (in this case finding a waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe); it probably is. Katara learned it the hard way.
